The last play action, deadly if you can pull it off!

We ran this offense back in the 90s in VA but just installed it this year at our school in GA.

We dont have a website for these items. Our system is truly proprietary in terms of numbering, audible system and blocking. No one calls this like we do and I do mean "no one" unless they purchased the system from us.

Hi coach we're just starting up the Uni's first ever football team over in the UK (one of the smallest universities in England with 5000 students) and was wondering if you could help out with some plays or a playbook as we're planning on using the Wishbone as our base O. Massive thank you

Head Coach in 12-13 running bone was Bob Christmas. I was his OC and then became the HC following his exit back to VA

We do not pass much but when we do, it is pretty special. I believe we passed for 30 TDs the past two years and threw it around 100 times total.

Coach I am an old wishbone coach, went to flex several years & we had some success. This year my 41 I will not have great athletes but just good average kids & looking @ going back to bone. I do alot of what you do but love the unbalanced. We ran maily out of 1 tight & 1 se. Could I get a playbook or at least what you call all of you formations. Thanks

Hey mate, I am coaching this year for the first time and I want to run the Wishbone for my team as I am a huge fan of the offense. Was wondering if it is possible for me to get a copy of the playbook so I can have a good head start on getting my offense together and I would really appreciate it.

Honestly, I have wondered why this offense is not used more to pass out of. Or used period for that matter. The fact is, defenses now would likely struggle with this offense as most are built for quick passing game and vertical passing attacks. Or up tempo offenses. PASSING OUT OF THIS FORMATION IS JUST A MATTER OF MODIFICATION. Back in the day, passing the ball period was not vogue; so they did not do it. Now, just like there are highly explosive teams around the country using a pistol double wing offense where they have flexibility enough to pass out of it; "this offense too could be modified to become far more balanced than what it is best known for". Double Wing and Wishbone( and flex bone) are ultimate play action pass type offenses. The mindset of the play caller just has to be more balanced and willing to call pass plays. Particularly effective if there is a good background in a passing offense and if you have kids who can carry the rock and catch it. TE who can catch it. Probably have to be a more speed type TE; who is willing to block and who has good hands/speed. Nice vid.

I think one of the reasons it became 'dated' in college ball was for this very reason. No one really developed a viable passing attack from that formation, so defenses stacked the box with quicker, athletic LBs and DBs to stuff the run. Georgia Tech tries to be more balanced from the flex, but they haven't really found a QB who can both run the attack and also be an accurate passer. They should have been unstoppable when they had Calvin Johnson.

Your right! But, do you think in this day and age of all year 7 on 7 and all the skeleton stuff that was not as prevalent during the wishbones hey day. Do you think you could develop a QB who is accurate enough. I think you would yes, need a special athlete. The running part and wishbone part would have to come natural to him; because you would need to really have to get him to a point where he can make the "layup passes"! I would love to see it in action.

Lou Last You know a big misnomer is that traditional sets Like the wishbone and the I and double wing is that they don't provide opportunities for explosive passing games but I think if the run game is good one can throw out of any set, it's just a matter of if you want to. I don't think the wishbone became dated because of lack of passing opportunity but because the formula for solving the tripple option puzzle became widespread. Calvin Johnson played at Georgia Tech and he amassed good enough numbers there while in a tripple option offense to be considered the best wr in the country. I think the scheme to stop the tripple option made the use of the offense out dated but I agree, it and many traditional sets are still very effective.

Coach is the wishbone something you installed this past season or have you always ran the wishbone?
