You know what is crazy about Julie Andrews in this video? She was 42 here. Freaking 42 years old!!! That's insane. She doesn't look a day over 30. Seriously, I don't know what she did, but Julie was able to look damn good for so long. She was able to look 30ish, even into her late 40's. A 42 year old Julie Andrews puts so many 42 year old women in America today to shame.
The thing I loved the most about the Muppet Show was all of these amazing talents, like Julie Andrews, who just seemed to have so much fun with preforming on the show. Yeah, it was silly, and hokey - but it was FUN. And all of these really talented performers lined up to do the show. Good times.

I consider the loss of Julie Andrew's singing voice to be one of the greatest tragedies in history. I mean, don't get me wrong, I know it's not as tragic as the Titanic or Sandy Hook, but it is tragic. She had the singing voice of an angel. :-(
I think I saw this on TV as a kid before I saw The Sound of Music. When I finally got round to seeing the film this song seemed to lack something . Singing chickens, perhaps.
What a wonderful woman! Julie Andrews has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. She made a lot of people happy and gave to many childhood memories in "Marry Poppins" and "The Sound of Music".
One of my favorite skits on the Muppet Show. When this was filmed she had something like a 5 octave range, just incredible. So glad she's gotten most of it back since that surgery screwed up her throat.
It is speculated she didn't have a 5 octave range since she never showcased it but it's possible she did when she was much much younger, before she became famous, like in her teens. In her late 20s and 30s this was more like about 3 octaves but still great. I don't think she's got much of it back but I think she can now sing basic songs - before she couldn't at all.
AnimaMandala she wouldn't have it anyway due to the natural changes in voice with age. I'm aware that the surgery damaged her range significantly, however she was not cut off in her prime. As you say, she has done some wonderful work since.
It did cut her off in her prime. She couldn't sing for over a decade afterwards. When she did sing again - her first song being the one she sings in the Princess Diaries - it was only in a single octave. The surgery had a massive effect on her career.
Maisie Summers let's get one thing straight here. Julie Andrews had that famously botched surgery when she was already over 60. That is not the prime of a singer's career, especially not for someone like her who was especially precocious and already very active in her teenage years on stage, etc. I am not denying the inherent sadness of what must have been a very traumatic experience for her; however it is inevitable as one ages that the voice becomes less flexible, just as the joints become less flexible. She has done a lot of work, especially as a voice actress, since then, which I think is to be lauded. We will never lose the magic of her recordings, especially those from the 60s when she really was in her prime. The lady is now in her 80s. Let us celebrate her for the icon she is.

I love what the muppets add to the song...fun. My daughter performed this recently at a local concert...she didn't have muppets, but I think Julie Andrews would like what she did with it :)
So much fun to watch. I remember watching this show as a child on prime time. What a difference between this innocent, fun-loving show the whole family could watch and shows that are on the air today on primetime that are either cynical, violent, or too sexy for young children or even adults to watch.

Fun Fact: THE TRAPP FAMILY really existed. The musical is a VERY FREE interpretation of the authobiography by MARIA AUGUSTE Von TRAPP. But the Von Trapps reacted to the way the musical presented them with humor. There are a lot of interviews with family members to it.
Listening to Julie Andrews signing can brighten up even the darkest of days and bring a smile to your face. Add the Muppets to that and the smile becomes broader and turns to laughter. Both Julie and the Muppets are CLASSICS forever.
@haranoe look at the song in question, and its origins. It's a children's song, used to create a puppet show in the film "Sound of Music". The parts of this song not sung by Julie Andrews in this clip were also not sung by her in the original. It may be nonsense, but most children's songs have some element of nonsense in them. For me, add a Muppet to any song and you increase its value tenfold.
I can beat that, Webkinzrocks400: I've seen the movie at least a dozen times, and I took the Sound of Music tour while I was in Austria, even dancing in the gazebo where "I am Sixteen, Going on Seventeen" was filmed, and where Maria and the Captain sang "Something Good". I was also lucky enough to catch Julie Andrews in an intimate benefit concert in the Whalers' Church in Sag Harbor. She had the audience join her in singing "Edelweiss". Unforgettable!

Its Been Quite Awhile Since Ive Seen The Movie But As You Said She Cannot Sing Soprano Like She Used To So She Must Still Be Able To Sing. My Grandma Had Shown Me This E-mail Where Julie Andrews Had Reworded The Song My Favorite Things To Attribute Being Older And She Had Sung It In Front Of A Crowd So She Has To Still Be Able To Sing, Just Not As High As She Used To.
@JohnnyDfan911 I cannot beleive this either and although Julie Christie was an accomplsihed actor, in no way did she come close to the performance of Ms Andrews in one of the finest and certainly the most uplifting film of all time. Whenever I see the film I feel better for it.
