He told Ralph that he had to hide so that he could protect his wife If Ralph was around all the evidence would be pointing in his direction In his examination he would have to mention the meeting at the summer Hut with Ursula. Ursula left the hut at quater to 10 in an angry mood and since she had no alibi she would have been deemed the culprit
Second doubt is that...Poirot was saying that murderer must be a man who well knows about Ackroyd having a dictaphone..."How did Poirot deduced that Dr Sheppard had known about, Ackroyd having a dictaphone?"
Because Sheppard is well versed with tech and gadgets of the time, which Poirot found out. He was the only tech person Ackroyd knew, nobody in the town except Sheppard was that well versed.
