The Mushoku Tensei Iceberg EXPLAINED 

I'm actually keeping myself busy with other games and anime because it's gonna be a little while before we make any kind of dent into the overall plot. Even when a new season comes out I'm probably not going to care until it's done. I just don't hope they sacrifice a lot of the slice of life elements in favor of cheapening the mood of the series. A lot of the true fun of the series is these slice of life arcs.

Yeah, but I think that's why we didn't get to see much of Akihito's personality - he's probably going to be entertaining in different ways. I mean Nanahoshi loved him so he can't be too lame. Also, having read Old Dragon's Tale which has a protagonist about as different from Rudeus as you can get, I trust rifujin to do something really good with whatever character he wants.

@@NatalieXHunter I really do hope that Aki is not the next protagonist. Him being a protagonist may be detrimental to the sequels success. Isekai as a trope is popular because it simultaneously helps the writer and the reader with the story. 1. It makes worldbuilding and exploring it easier for the author since it's observed through the lenses of a character that has an idea of the "normal world" and can compare it, making it also easier for the reader to consume at the same time 2. Since the main character has the normal world experiences it makes it far easier for the reader to connect with the main character making them more invested in the story. Now why does Aki doesn't work well as a new protagonist? 1. The world we explore had already been introduced to us readers, not all of it but a significant portion of it and anything that may be potentially relevant. Converting it through the lenses of the isekai'd main character doesn't serve a purpose for the reader here, also the author should be confident enough in his world that he no longer needs a story device of isekai'd MC to introduce us to it. 2. He'll be constantly compared to Rudy. I can already guarantee it. There's not real way around it, he may be a completely different character but it is likely he'll live in Rudy's shadow for a very long time both for the readers (and possibly in the story as well). Aki in the story would work if Rifujin wants to completely disconnect the sequel from the original which looking at this tweets might be likely. Aki would also work greatly if he wasn't the "main character" but the secondary character like Nana that still influences the story by their past and current experiences but isn't the main focus. A character that would work great for that kind of sequel which still takes place in the same world would be one that was already in the story and the readers are already invested in. (Sieg and Lara are quite obvious although I know that Rifujin had already disproven that idea) It avoids both the problems of lack of relevancy and being overshadowed by the previous protagonist.

I truly hope that the next protagonist is Orsted himself. One redundancy chapter from his Pov was great

Maybe, I just took him starting the diary more as that normal fear most people have that as they pass through life they won't remember many of the moments. For it to count as senile dementia he'd actually have to be, well, senior. Idk, I have a weirdly good memory for things that happened and so I find it frustrating when I talk to people I went to school with or whatever and I say 'remember that time...' and literally none of them do, so I guess that kinda flew over my head about Rudeus - I thought most people were like that!

It feels like I'm forgetting something… "Ugh, this always happens." Now I think about it, I'm always so forgetful. I would have bouts of inspiration, and then promptly forget about them. One good idea after another too. I thought I had a good memory, but I really have too many weaknesses. Not good. I'm repeating my mistakes. I was lucky this time, but what if I forget next time? If I forget my mistakes, I won't improve. But, what do I do? I remember hearing that keeping a journal helps with memory. "…alright, maybe I should start a diary?" Not a bad idea. -------------------------------------------------------- I'm convinced he has some issue with his memory. I don't know why you think he has to have specifically "senile dementia" to have memory issues. You can start developing issues with your memory really early too. It's just more rare. To me feels like it slowly creeps in and at Rudeus's old age it starts to be a bigger issue. When you start to get dementia etc it never just happens. It develops over a long time and gets worse and worse.

@@NatalieXHunter Additionally Rudeus also has an additional 35 years worth of memories, knowledge and well Trauma. Him developing dementia might just me a psychological issue. I dont think he had any kind of issues in his youth and its more that he had too keep far too much knowledge on hand. Once he became part of the "new" world and forgot more of his old world, its seemed this wasnt too much of an issue anymore.

I don't think he has to have senile dementia to have memory issues, I was saying the thing on the iceberg was 'senile dementia' which only prompted me to consider him in old age (because it's not senile dementia if you're young, it's something else).

If it were to be dementia I do see how Rudias could have it even from a younger age. His reincarnator status. If his soul somehow got corrupted from living longer than what is normal and resulting in something like early dementia. I personally don't think it's true because I think it's more to do with the massive time skips the series has. I probably can't remember every 5 year gap of events in my own life and that is kind of how the time skips in this series match up. Especially someone like Rudius who has borderline mana capacity of a god. He is extremely combat capable and often spends many years preparing for combat or participating in it to kill time. He kind of defaults to it as a go to when he doesn't know what else to do. His mindset is I don't got anything better to do so I might as well hone my abilities more. You are less likely to remember things when your entire life is full of either achievements or potentially dangerous situations for extremely long periods of time. When your life feels fulfilling you are more likely to look toward the future than even pay attention to the past at all.

The Crunchyroll Award video was one where I kinda recorded it unscripted, wasn't really happy with it (I rarely do unscripted stuff outside of streams so it's outside of my normal pipeline), so was going to redo it as a scripted video, then had an accident and was out of action with concussion and various other injuries... I do still want to give my thoughts on the awards but I think the moment has passed for the reaction type video I was going to make. So, I thought it was better to come back with this one, which is more in my normal format (and is a fun video to research) rather than anything unusual. I have some unusual stuff coming up, though!

Any reading videos I do for now will be standalone stuff though, like the Re:Zero Pride IF one, because the algorithm gets annoyed when it shows part 12 of a series to your subscribers who didn't watch any other part of it and assumes the fact they don't want to randomly watch that means your content has dropped off... so the best tactic seems to be to slip them in between more popular videos so it doesn't notice. I need to rack up a good few of those right now though haha!

I might actually finish Oblige all in one video when I do feel like it won't mess me up to publish it - there's not much left and it means if I do take a hit it's only once.

Huh? The future diary is part of the main story. It happens long before Oblige. Oblige would not happen in the alternate timeline in the diary because most people involved are dead/never born.

@@NatalieXHunter I believe you misunderstand what I am saying. I am speaking in relation to the iceberg where in it jobless oblige is on the first layer, but future diary on the third. The iceberg should contain information from the most known to the least and my point was that knowing what happens in the future diary should naturally come first. You should agree with this because you put jobless oblige in the spoiler half of the video where all the people should have read the light novel (knowing future diary) but some would not have read jobless oblige. Of course this isn't that serious I just thought that was strange and I'm sorry for the vagueness in the first comment

Not really, I mean, there is one that someone in my community set up for me that has been expanded to be for me and Espiritu, but where I've been a mess lately I've done nothing to promote it and have no idea if anyone really uses it. We'll be doing a big revival of the Discord thing before MT S2, but for now the main place I talk to people is Twitter (though I'm on there a lot and reply to almost all public stuff on there - DMs when I have time).
