I watched all of your videos leading up to my trip two weeks ago (Thank you!) And my can't miss things that I did in a very short two days, were: Capitol Tour, National Archives, National Mall and a walk around the Tidal Basin, Library of Congress, Arlington Cemetery, The White House, and Ford's Theater.

Kevin P I hope you crossed 10th Street to visit the Petersen House where Lincoln actually died, right across the street from Ford’s Theater,

I recently found your channel and I'm thinking about visiting Washington DC for the first time. The sites I most want to see are the Library of Congress and the National Archives. Would have any tips on visiting those places.

My absolute can't miss place is the top floor of the Washington monument. Since skyscrapers are not allowed in dc, this is the highest view you can get and you will not regret it!

This is one of my favorite views. Unfortunately the Washington Monument is closed through 2019 for Elevator Modernization. We are patiently awaiting its reopening!

Another informative video - so glad I'm subscribed! Any reason the Jefferson Memorial isn't on your must see list? I'm assuming you would still highly recommend it for most visitors.

All the monuments are must sees! The Trip Hacks DC Monuments at Twilight tour actually begins at the Jefferson Memorial.

Love the gardens behind the Smithsonian “castle”. The new Spy Museum is great! However plan more than two hours because it is so interactive. Holocaust museum can take hours because there is so much to read and view

Hi Rob Can you tell me if it is safe to go along the mall early morning whilst it is still dark? We will be visiting in late November from the UK so we’ll be about early thanks to the time difference.

I'm chaperoning a class field trip this year, and in years to come. Is the walk from the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington reasonable for 8th graders? 1 mile isn't to far, but I don't know other factors like what streets they will have to cross, etc.
@TripHacksDC
@TripHacksDC 5 лет назад
Depends on the size of the group. If it's 10 or 15 sure. If it's 100, maybe not. There are some large roads with heavy traffic you need to cross on foot.

Rob, i love your channel. I live in Annapolis, MD and have tried many times to get into the African American History museum but have not been able to get a timed entry ticket. Over the last Pres Day weekend we got tickets! i noticed at 630am there were no tickets available but at 11:30 am they had tickets available after 1230pm entry times. is there a 2nd release of the tickets that occur around 11am? I noticed this same pattern on Saturday and Sunday on Pres day weekend.

Nice! They have been experimenting with different ticket distribution systems lately as far as I can tell. It's a bit hard to keep up.

I'm coming by motorcycle. Any tips as to where to park or security advice?Thanks for all the great tips and vids:)
@TripHacksDC
@TripHacksDC 6 лет назад
If you're staying at a hotel, call ahead and ask if you can have a discounted rate for parking in their garage. Sometimes they will park motorcycles in corners and other spots that aren't full parking spaces. Otherwise you can check SpotHero.com to see if there are garages nearby that work for your needs. I recommend against parking on the street. Motorcycles are subject to parking rules and tickets, and there is a higher risk of damage.

Thanks. I'm not staying local so I'll check Spothero.Thanks for the advice.

Are there any Memorial Day weekend events you would suggest?
@TripHacksDC
@TripHacksDC 6 лет назад
I recommend the National Memorial Day Concert at the Capitol (or even better, the full dress rehearsal the day before). Rolling Thunder also happens on Memorial Day weekend so it can get very crowded near the war memorials on the National Mall.

Hi, do you have a video on seasonal, annual and other special events held in the District like art crawls, artist studio open houses, cultural festivals or large events like Howard University's Mecca Fest, etc.?
@TripHacksDC
@TripHacksDC 6 лет назад
It's very hard to do that sort of thing in video-form because things are always happening, dates changing etc. The Official Visitor's Guide is a good resource though: washington.org/visitors-guide

Just got back from DC. Made the mistake of trying to tour Capital, Library of Congress and others. Walked in with a Victorinox knife with a 1 1/2 inch blade, finger nail file, scissors, toothpick and tweezers. This dangerous weapon wasn't allowed inside of the Capital or Library of Congress. If you are the type of person who carries a knife leave it at home.
