Hi from New Zealand..🙂🙃..I really enjoyed listening to your logical thought processes and then lol watching as you realise that she absolutely understands. 9 years old, she interpreted Jay Hawkins original 'I put a Spell on You'..and she alone has understood his meaning..Angelina said this song was about love, desperate love..and when SHE screams, its to the world to love each other..and English isn't her first language! And she travels to beautiful places in her mind when she sings..there's so much! Her voice becomes all different instruments as well, that's why she sounds amazing with a guitar or a piano or just her voice. She's special...and she has thousands of surrogate Granddads who look out for her online from disrespectful comments etc..her Angels! For me I never realized just how amazing this performance was until I listened to the original by Billie Holliday. It really is astounding.

At 16 Angelina has very good breath control, exquisite voice control, a natural warm thick textured voice which she can shape and change in many ways, interesting jazzy tempo, back phrasing, pronunciation and things like that and a highly developed musicality. Combine that with a modest good-hearted girl, and you have some of the reasons she is highly beloved.

Everything you said about Angelina is logical, but you’ll see as you watch more that comparing her to other singers (child or not) doesn’t work. What you heard today is a seven year old basically channeling Billie Holiday. But almost immediately after this, you start to get Angelina giving us the vibe of blues, jazz, and soul from last century, but it’s 100% Angelina. Her later performances on this show, singing Bang, Bang and Summertime-she’s channeling nobody. You mentioned that you’d like to hear her older, with more age-appropriate vocals. Actually, that doesn’t apply. Angelina somehow handles everything, especially melancholy themes, so genuinely and convincingly that you’re never uncomfortable watching a child sing blues, for example, because she is right in the moment delivering that performance and living the lyrics. It’s not explainable-you just have to listen to understand. I grew up with the great music of the 50’s and 60’s. I’ve never been captivated by any singer until Angelina. She is truly once in a lifetime.

Nice comments. Angelina will continue to be a mystery for you for quite a while, but an altogether enjoyable one!! A couple of things about Angelina that you will see is that her bandwidth for absorbing and incorporating musical sources is vast and her technical progress and confidence grow quickly (especially when she was younger). Both continue to the present. She has listened closely to many artists, not just one or two. This performance does have a component of mimicry in it (how could it not - she's 7yo!). But in later performances in NGT (just weeks after this), she is taking more liberties and adapting what she is doing. An earlier more acute example in a single performance is Angelina in the school studio at 6yo performing Ben E. King's "I Who Have Nothing". She starts quite tentatively and is overjoyed when she hits the high belts in the first verse, after the second verse she gives the camera a calm thumbs up as though she knows "I got this". Continue your AJ journey, she will take you places (and teach you things) you don't anticipate.

Love your commentary. Keep making Angelina reactions. You have a lot of ground to cover. You will find that Angelina honors the original artist and adds her own spin on top; and while you can recognize her voice, she never brings the same sound to two different songs.

This performance is what got her in the door, but when she sang “I’m a Fool to Want You” a cappella, she won the show, because everyone was in shock, and she only got better from there.

It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on RU-vid before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Glommy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. Your have very insightful and original reactions! This was my very first introduction to AJ. When I heard her rendition, I had instant tears and was in complete disbelief of what I was hearing. Though I don’t enjoy child singers at all, because like you said, they are mimicking others, I even went so far as to look for other child singers to give them another chance. Obviously, there was no one that could compare to AJ, even adults couldn’t convey emotions as well as her! I’m not that big of a music lover and I was never a fan of any particular singer, band or genre, but she is my favorite singer of all time. What fascinates me about Angelina is her unique voice and ability to bring out the beauty of human emotions (through her singing or through her listeners feelings and actions).

What always impresses me watching this video is that although it is obvious to everyone that she provided an extraordinary performance, Angelina doubts about the jury’s vote. She has no idea of how amazing she is

I have watched this clip too many times to count. What you see over and over is that she is an artist and not just a singer. Watch her body language. And three times she closes her eyes and puts her head back as she sings. She is not playing a tape in her head but feeling the song in her own way. She chose this song because of an experience she had at home. If you look at interviews with her you see a shy child but her deeply empathetic nature. Notice the barefeet and understand she is seven. What seven year old has thought about poverty and hunger issues let alone acted upon it? What six year old keeps a journal about her travel experiences? As one reactor said in shock this is not normal. I don't know what your attitude is toward doing research outside reactions but even in the period from her audition at NGT to her final performance she improves dramatically. You can track it by the other tooth growing in. Her fans are exactly as you were. Mesmerized. She just wraps you up and pulls you right into the song. If you watch carefully she demonstrates her ability over and over to build her own very nuanced elements into every cover but no matter she respectfully pays homage and tribute to the original. For example when Aretha Franklin died she did a very mournful version of Natural Woman at the end of which the screen goes to black. Like it or not there is no doubt she feels deeply about she does. This is not a child, now a young lady, who does anything without thought and intention. By the time you get to 16 year old Angelina and something like my funny Valentine, you can see a perfect example of what you allude to in your review above. She is a seasoned professional so far from her age group you can no longer make a salient observation about "compared to other 16 year olds..." She can only be compared to the original artist.

So happy you opened up for our amazing phenomenon, our barefoot angel and prinsess of jazz. You may experience some headaches though, on your way to try "solving this problem". 🤔 Angelina has constantly surpriced and even shocked me from this, her early beginning. At 67 years of age, this old rocker fell in love with our Angel 4 years ago. I concur with everything you shared and I for one had to dig deeper. The deeper I got the more my love for her talent increased. I have actually placed Angelina in my top three female vocalists for my generation, due to versatility and approach to music. I wouldn't speculate too much about Angelina at this point. Her portfolio is massive (over 160 songs) and very varied. What you say here is very true, but pretty soon you'll forget that she's a child because the performances are what they are. Her age becomes irrelevant. Listen to her newer stuff by all means, but don't skip the in between stuff! Here she is starting out and following closely in the footsteps of one of the greats, but soon she cuts loose and by the time she's 10 she is her own singer. By the way, she has done three Any Winehouse numbers - Valerie, Rehab and Back to Black (the last two with altered lyrics more suitable for her age). Thank you so much for the reaction. Thank you for this reaction. Your commentary was spot on. Angelina was credited with saying something to the effect of... "if there was no Billie Holiday, there would have been no Angelina Jordan". The child sized speaker box and tape recorder was a really accurate image for this audition performance. AJ's last song for NGT was Gershwin's 'Summertime' and it is doubtful that you will see any traces of the tape recorder/speaker box in that phenomenal performance. Angelina appears to be a genuine contralto and if you look up 'How Great Thou Art' where she gets down to C3 and sings it in the same key as Elvis did... and she was only 12! Try her casual sofa based cover of 'I'd Rather Go Blind' sung most famously by Etta James. Her own songs are also amazingly good. Once she signed with Republic Records at age 14 she releases several versions of 'Million Miles'. The original lyric version and the live studio version make for a fascinating comparison. Her cover of Adele's 'Easy on Me' or Michael Jackson's Billie Jean are both stunning. 'I'm still holding out for you' (baby fuzz) and produced as a demo was a hugely mature performance. Her Quincy Jones Birthday celebration rehearsal is another understated yet stunning performance. There is so much more to her vocal abilities and her musical intelligence. This being her first song on NGT, you really need to see the unbelievable progression on this show by checking out the next 3 songs she performed..."I'm a Fool to Want You", (Billy Holiday) done A Cappella. Next song would be "Bang Bang" (Nancy Sinatra) and the final "Summertime" (Gershwin). She makes each of those songs totally her own in her arrangement and would be 8 years old at end of show. Angelina is totally unique, a music genius, even at these young ages, and her talent is immeasurable. Not sure that you will be able to solve the puzzle of Angelina but to simply realize that this kind of talent only comes along maybe once or twice in a lifetime....don't rack your brain to much, acceptance is key with Angelina.

Like you, I had to open my eyes when I first listened to this video to make sure that Lady Day wasn't standing on that stage! Prior to her audition on America's Got Talent (AGT), which I NEVER watch, Angelina mentioned winning Norway's Got Talent (NGT) in 2014. After her unique, mind-blowing AGT performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (she was 13), I HAD to go back and check out her NGT performances. I've been a fan ever since. I grew up listening to Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Louis Armstrong...all of whom Angelina has covered with precision. Even Quincy Jones was so impressed with Angelina's talent, he invited her to sing "Fly Me to the Moon" at his 85th birthday party at London's 02 Arena when she was 12. Great reaction welcome to Angelina 's world. Her recent songs are great but I suggest that you enjoy a few more of her early performances each one has something different to offer. I'm a fool to want you, Bang Bang and Summertime from NGT and I'll be there and At Last are all special. After 7 years I still listen to them frequently.

You can go for "Stay" performed at age 12 at home with guitar player. To me it is hypnotizing. Her approach to singing is so unique - only Eva Cassidy gives me some of the same vibes.

She is singing from her heart and loves to sing very much. Therefore she is never nervous on stage. In her first performances she always looking in a cute way, but sings in a grown up way with a lifetime experience. Maybe try one of her own written songs. Million Miles is a teardropper about her passed grandpa. She's a great singer-songwriter 💖💕👌

I'll offer you an explanation which may help you understand what is going on. Yes, it is impossible to quantify how she is doing this in such a manner. That, in essence, is exactly the answer. She is a very special human being and besides her musical artistry her persona (even at 7 years old) is remarkable and when you read the comments from her fan base (her 'angels') you will realize she is she singing 'for you' and the lack of nervousness and, instead her poise and confidence lets you know she's okay and that she is, indeed, singing for her audience. The soulfulness in her voice touches you and your heart cannot resist her. Your brain is confused, mixed up, but not your heart. Within the first 10 seconds your heart knew exactly who Angelina is and her love touched your heart and, you know what? She will never leave you. One in a million? One in a generation? She is much more than a singer and when you find out what her desires are in life (beginning at 6 years old) you will be in awe of her.

I'm a old[very old] lapsed jazz fan. My mother was a big fan of Billie Holiday.When Billie Holiday died in 1959 it was the first time I remember my mother crying.When I heard AJ sing this song with such fearless confidence and style it brought tears to my eyes.At age SEVEN she seemed to have a real sense of who she was and what she wanted to do and how to do it.Your AJ reactions and analysis are interesting and informative....They prompted me to subscribe to your channel....Thanks.

Yes, Angelina was born the first human juke box with the ability to add her own flavor to any song in any genre'. She is completely a new breed of singer that has never existed before. God has blessed her with a gift that is very special to her. We can only accept it and marvel at her at being the 'Child Pro' that she is. Most have to work years to get at her level of vocal expertise, but to her it is as natural as talking. As she has said in and interview , "I feel more comfortable singing than talking".

I think that it was in the remarks before summertime somebody said she is a superstar and she said I am an ordinary girl. Yes, she wants in one sense to be a star - that people like her songs to be a name that is known so that her music can spread but all the time she sees herself as nothing extraordinary (probably because it comes to her so easy so naturally - see Bohemian Rapsody to see how music flows from her - almost like she is breathing music). One notable thing in this interview is when she said "I love to sing and tonight I will show you how much." She did not say "I will show you how good I sing" - she said, "I will show you how much I love to sing." I think this is what makes her special when she sings she is like fish in the water - in her natural element. And yes she did cover Amy Winehouse.

Even when Angelina was 8 years old, after the win in this NGT, many tried to sign a contract with her! They came flying to Norway in their private jets! But they were allowed to go home without a contract. Even Disney. Angelina and her family already decided then, that she would have as normal childhood as possible.

Its often very hard to understand why its so good, but its always very easy to just listen and enjoy it. Another reactor who has 500k subs on YT was at his 40-50th Angelina reaction, and stated something like this - 'I shouldnt be surprised by her anymore, yet here I am again, godsmacked.' Hello PrymalChaos :-) Man, I really love your reactions to Angelina. I've been following her since this very audition, and it gives me so much enjoyment to see new reactors and people in general try to compute what they see and hear. It's also interesting to hear the initial thoughts. Some reactors are very sure when they claim this and that, and it's very entertaining to see those reactors 5 or 10 (and very often way more that that) reeactions in :-) We see that most people just give in to the fact that she's a prodigy, and there is no set of rules that apply. That realisation is inevitable really. I see that you're already starting to understand that, and your curiosity too see if you can decipher the formula is what drives you forward. After you've heard and watched her sing more than 8 genres of music, often times better than the original, you have since long given up on finding said formula. The formula is Angelina, and it exists without any pre-definiton, in a sphere on its own :-) I'm super excited to follow you on this journey, and like always, I feel a little envious that people get to experience her for the first time. From infancy she was used to hearing her grandmother playing her jazz and blues record collection. Angelina just loved Billie Holiday from a very young age. At a school Christmas program she refused to sing the silly kids Christmas songs-- that just is not what she wanted to sing. And it is not that she can't be silly or fun-loving--she is in videos with her sister, but she is just so much more sophisticated about it. Also, she has covered several Amy Winehouse and Adele songs and has been compared to both. But she has never been a tape player playing back what she hears. She always makes the songs her own, performing with her whole being her understanding of the song. She sometimesi even changes some of the harshest lyrics (Note she left out the whole part of killing a man in Bohemina Rhapsody). She was making the songs her own even at age 7 (by the way she started singing at age 1.5 !) You need to watch the rest of her Norway's Got Talent performances, espeicially her rendition of Gershwin's "Summertime," and her; acapella version of "I'm a fool to want you

I totally agree she is like a recording of the original artist. I hesitate to say it because it sounds pejorative, but she is more than that. She rearranges and enhances each song she covers. The end result is her covers are virtually always the best version of any song. Wait until you see more of her, you will be amazed.

You really need to react to the other three performances she did on this talent show. In just a few short months, you literally see her get better and better! It's an incredible, phenomenal evolution taking place before your eyes!

What you're attempting to describe with that airy reverb sound is addictive. Her control of that has so much more "depth" (I'm still trying to figure out the words for it also) than I have heard from anyone else. I don't even like most of the songs she sings, but that ability leaves all others lacking. It adds an extra dimension almost like she is singing in 3d while everyone else can only sing in 2d.

I definitely see the logic in your expectations for Angelina's more recent performances. There are plenty of technical and entertaining teen singers out there. What continues to fascinate me about almost every Angelina Jordan performance is the emotional authenticity her vocal timbres and techniques forge into the song. I believe almost every word she sings. This is, I think, the true mystery of Angelina Jordan. I'm enjoying traveling with you on your own journey. Great reaction! Watch the rest of her Norway GT she sings Bang bang Nancy Sinatra. Summertime. she's slightly older than her audition and the growth in that short Time is stunning. I saw an interview with one of the judges. He said they discussed whether she was too young, that ended when she politely corrected her accompanist about how she wanted him to come in.

I feel Angelina has been “messing with” quite a few heads since she first stepped on the NGT stage. Love your reactions. As for this one, not only was it her first time on a stage in front of a large audience, but she was singing in her third language. As for the song and how she sang it, go back and listen to the original by Billie Holiday. Then you will understand just how fantastic of a job Angelina did with this. I would recommend you listen to her last song in the NGT competition, "summertime", To see just how much she progressed in just 4 months. Then do a double reaction of her "Funny Valentine"; first when she was 10, and then one of her latest songs done earlier this year shortly after turning 16. Many (including myself) consider this latest "Funny Valentine" her best release to date!! That said, just about every thing she has done has been astoundingly good, especially several of her songs from when she was 10 and 11. I have a list of my top 10 songs by Angelina that currently has 160 plus of her songs on it!

Yep, for you, her next three NGT performances are a must. I highly recommend choosing the videos with closed captions. For me it was already a unbelievable progression from this first appearance on NGT to her performance in the final. She more and more evolved from "a human tape recorder" to her own style and it will blow your mind what she's able to do now with songs like Billiy Jean from Michael Jackson, not to forget her originals. During the video you might have noticed a quick clip of Angelina's mother wiping way tears. In a later interview she explained, that was the moment she realized her daughter was no longer just hers or words to that effect. Since then, that is the point in this video that chokes me up .

I really hope that before going back to her more recent songs you'll finish her NGT performances. Not only does she have some incredible ones but also they are all in a 6-8 months timeframe but the evolution of her voice, technique and stage presence is amazing and well worth reacting to.

Great reaction. I really like your point that Angelina somehow makes it sound like she is singing in a microphone from the jazz era. I have looked at a great many reactions to this performance, and nobody else picked that up, but I could really hear it once you pointed it out. Yes, we are all bewildered by Angelina. I think it's because our ideas of what is possible are formed from what we have already experienced. Once in a while someone goes a little beyond that, and we are astonished, but still understand how it could. But Angelina goes so far beyond what anyone had done, and in so many ways, that our minds just can't understand how it is even possible.

Thanks! Early in her 'career' Angelina was very much a mimic. She would often perform in the voice of the original singer. Because of this, she would be called 'The girl of a thousand voices.' So when she sings "What a Difference a Day Makes," she sounds a lot like Dinah Washington. This was the phase in her education where she was accumulating all of her tools. The growth from performance to performance is just astonishing. Mind you, her own voice is still there, but she does not change the arraignments very much, until you get to Jay Hawkins. She takes his songs, "I Put a Spell on You" and "Portrait of a Man" (she changed it to Portrait of a Child) and really puts her own stamp on them. Through her 9th and 10th years, she really grows as a performer. By the time she turns 11, she can sing any song as she wants it, in whatever voice she chooses. It's as if she drinks music education from a fire hose. Listening to the results will definitely make your life better. If I were to recommend a recent performance, I think her cover of "Billie Jean" really shows her total package. She covers a lot of Adele, but she stays a bit too true to the originals, making comparisons between them too expected. Her original from 2021, "7th Heaven" would also be a great recent performance to check out next.

By way of extending your observations of this performance, it would behoove you to listen to the other three performances in the series of Norway's Got Talent. She evolves so much in these performances, it would indicate how much she moves beyond the child-like movements and how much she becomes her own self. Beyond these NGT performances she really takes off...

Some reactors do all 4 in 1 reaction and you can see her progression. About 10 min. What no one has done, would be cool, an Angelina covering Adele marathon. She has covered at least 5 of Adele's songs. It is crazy how she brings every song to the next level. I would suggest you hear Adele's version first to realize Angelina's Genius. If you want to cheat, her most recent is Easy on Me. Simply stunning.

A perfect two videos to start the journey of a lifetime, there are many many gems to watch and shed a tear too, I still need a hanky after watching this particular video for what must be the 250th time! My personal favourite is the self penned Million Miles followed by Shield also written by her, but the AGT three tracks are a MUST! Please keep them coming you will love them .

For me, the magic of Angelina is all about the emotional connection. I never cried to any artist and it took a few months of listening to Angelina for her to break me down. During the first couple months of watching and listening to Angelina, my brain would often ache. I thought it was because I couldn't understand how such a voice was coming from someone so young BUT now I believe it was because of the strong emotional connection. I now feel more emotionally balanced than at any time in my 63 years.
