You will find in all of Angelina's performances, that she carries herself with a certain class and humbleness. She is aware of her talent, but doesn't let it go to her head.
This was the third song I ever heard by Angelina about 5 years ago and the depth and beauty of it still gets me every time, it truly is stunning, I love the original but this gives it a new dimension. I just think this girl is the best thing I have heard in the last 50 years, So pleased you have done this one and loved your reaction.
She is ridiculous! That's mad for 7 years old. Even just performing in front of that many people let alone the singing talent she had even then. Like you said as well it's so nice to see a young girl/woman getting where she has based on her talent alone and not being one of those who opt for the time honoured show as much skin as you can route to vacuous success.
That was her formal introduction to people all over the world. Of course this was Norway but the word got out about her and her family took necessary steps to protect her against all the excitement which could steer her life in the wrong direction. She understood completely and so her education would be in the forefront and she would have the opportunity to live life as a young girl. The love in her family is enormous and what an example it is to see what genuine love can produce.
So so glad you finaly got to this. This was the day I had my first experience of loosing grip of my jaw, over a piece of vokal music. 😲 And I`m still working on getting it in place. 😄
Hi Red, the only thing Miss Angelina did very early on, was Make Up. I saw her with Make up in Singapore on stage at age 9. Mosten times she uses just a touch of it. She and her family always were carefulf how she dressed. Only now she starts to show more skin, like a 60s minidress. She has taste she knows exactly what not to show off. Angelina decides for herself. When it comes to the actual training and choice of songs etc., it has always been Angelina who made all the choices and decisions. Parents and others, on the other hand, have asked her to take it a little easier sometimes. Angelina is very special and her own driving force. Ever since she was 3-4 years old! Of course, all relatives and frends, have helped and protected her. Angelina and her closest, decided early on that she would have as normal a childhood as possible. Even when she won NGT, 8 years old, many wanted to sign a contract. Everyone was dismissed! And this Norwegian girl sings in English! Do you know that she speaks several languages. I had heard of the song when I was younger, but to my knowledge had never heard Billie Holiday sing it. Rusty Shackleford did a mashup with Angelina and Billie singing it together, and it shows just how close to the original Angelina was at 7 years old. How could anyone watch this beautiful young child perform and not fall in love. I certainly did. Her ten years since have only justified the love of her and the beauty of her person, not to mention that gorgeous voice. Her third performance at this even had her singing Bang Bang, which most of us know from Kill Bill, the movie. Regarding fame and celebrity: There are many examples of children who became famous at a young age. Sometimes some of these have had difficulties later in life! Angelina's family wants Angelia to have a normal upbringing and be a child and teenager like everyone else. When Angelina is off from school, she has performed in tons of shows all over the world. Most were charity shows for children. Angelina has lived in several countries and traveled a lot during her upbringing. She is well aware of the different conditions that exist in different countries! Angelina and her family have turned down many who wanted to sign a contract with her. But at 14 yo, she signed on for the Republican record. The condition of this contract is that Angelina and her family decide when it is time to promote her fully.
Angelina has occasionally had contact with singing teachers. But not so much to change her self-taught way of singing, but more to learn how to protect her amazing voice. Angelina, 4-5 yo, attended Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, She learned to play piano, guitar etc. She has also learned to arrange music etc. She started singing when she was very young! Since then, she has trained an incredible amount. I have heard that she practiced several hours a day, already at the age of 4-5.
You don’t have to be afraid of anything Angelina has sung in her entire career. It’s all tasteful and age appropriate. She never loses her essence as a child, even though the vocals are unimaginably good. She’s not mimicking an adult-she’s just the best child singer you’ve ever heard. Her growth in each of her next three songs on NGT is hard to believe. Her uncle, who is her manager, said in an interview that after Anglina won NGT, all the big record labels came to Norway in their private jets, with suitcases full of money, trying to sign her. They have also told Disney 'no thanks'. She has been very well protected, and grown up to be a wonderful young woman with good morals and values. In recent times we have seen more of her speaking, in concerts and live streams. And it strikes me that - even if some of her fans arent satisfied with the amount of success, or lack thereof, (she is not topping the charts) - Angelina is absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of support and love she recieves from her fans! Her controlling vibrato and raspiness is still here from the beginning, that's what the judges wondering at the end. This audition was the best they have seen. The Winner just appeared first time in public on stage 🎉
Fascinating. The raspiness of her voice is the element that I love the most. I love the vocal runs as they are so impressive, however, the raspiness is just so pretty to me.
Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on RU-vid before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷 You'll notice the last judge (the one with his mouth open) asked her if she knew what the song was about. I believe he was asking to see if she was aware of the history of the song. That's because 'Gloomy Sunday' is known to history as 'The Hungarian Suicide Song' and was banned in parts of Europe during WWI because many believed the song had led to a rash of suicides in the population. Angelina, unaware of this at the time, I'm sure, simply replied Yes, it's about a sad Sunday and I think the judge was pleased to realize she had a simple child's view of the song and it's meaning. Thus the comment in essence Yes I could feel that sad Sunday. Amazing Angelina would start her career with such a controversial song. 🔥🔥🔥♥👣

I agree. I think that is why the judge questioned her. You could tell she did not understand. And I’m glad. It’s interesting because most people ( including me who loves lyrics) won’t know a songs meaning or actual lyrics! Was I ever red faced listening to a song with my mom..
@redheadedneighbor hahaha for sure, a "sad sunday" is a light way of saying that after that song was written, there was a HUGE wave of suicides by people who were in the process of listening to it, when the numbers of dead people began to approach the thousands they literally made it illegal in that (and a few other) country. Not to mention the absolute misery and heart-wrenching sorrow of which the original artist suffered... As someone who has always "actually listened to and interpreted" song lyrics from childhood, it has never ceased to stun me how few people realize what they are actually singing along to... so much of the most well know songs and most revered artist were and are a cesspool of roiling trauma, anger, broken hearts and substance abuse... it's part of what allowed them to see through the human condition and make music that reflects the soul, not the limbic system... ie, truly great/transcendent art ❤️
"Gloomy Sunday" was banned in a number of European countries during WWII, since they feared it would increase the suicide rate. Angelina chose the song because she loved Billie Holiday and the melody of the song. Thankfully, a 7 year old can't fully understand the meaning of the lyrics, but in my opinion, Angelina FELT the sad emotions of the song and was able to convey that emotion. I used to be in the camp with those who believe a child singer can't evoke mature emotions because they haven't lived through them yet. Then I learned of Angelina and Alma Deutscher. I now believe there are a few children who have great emotional maturity at a young age and able to convey those emotions in their art.

Actually she did understand what the lyrics were about. She admitted that later in an interview. She had been involved in editing the song for this show.
