The Antonine Itinerary tells us that in the first century there was a Roman fort and settlement called Bomium somewhere between Cardiff and Neath in South Wales. But the location it gives cannot possibly be right. So where was it? What was it like? What happened to it?
Many historians have speculated where it might have been. Was it in Stormy Down? Ewenny? Ogmore? Boverton? Cowbridge? We examine the evidence, the archeology and make the case for each. We also reconstruct our theory for where the long lost fort could be found today. You might be surprised by where it is hidden.
This video is an episode in the Ghost Towns of Britain series. Written, presented and published by historian specialising in Welsh history; Graham Loveluck-Edwards. Author of the book 'Historic Pubs of Wales' and the 'Legends and Folklore from Bridgend and the Vale' series. Published by Candy Jar Books LTD (Cardiff). He also presents the History on your doorstep programme on Bro Radio.
In this series of short videos, He scours ancient maps and historical documents to rediscover lost settlements. He tells their story, looks at what they were once like in their hey day and why they disappeared.
