Cain is one of the most intriguing biblical characters, being the first son of Adam and Eve. However, his life is shrouded in mysteries that few people know about. One such mystery involves his death: who killed Cain?
Lamech, his descendant in the seventh generation, who was blind, would go hunting led about by his young son... One time the lad said to his father: “I see some kind of beast in the distance.” Lamech sent his arrow in that direction, and Cain was slain. As they approached the corpse, the lad... said to his father: “The corpse resembles a man.” Thereupon, Lamech cried out: “Woe is me, it is my grandfather.” In his grief, he clasped his hands together, and accidentally struck the child’s head, killing him…
Dear Lord, fill my heart with gratitude for the blessings you've bestowed upon me. Help me to recognize and appreciate the beauty and abundance in my life.
The story of Lamech killing Cain also says Tubal-Cain was accidentally killed by Lamech in his state of remorse on the same hunting trip. The rabbis feel it is referred to in the song, in that the "man" is Cain, and the "young man" refers to Tubal-Cain. I, myself, lean towards the account in Jubilees. That account connects it with the practice of stoning specified in the Torah. Cain was killed by stones (of his house) falling on him just as he most probably used a stone to kill his brother, Abel.
In jubilees, it says that the stones from his own house smote him. The stones fell on him. Just like he smote. his brother with a stone. Jubilees also says that Cain smote Abel with a stone. It also says he married his twin sister.
