The Museum it's one of the very, very few watches you can recognize from across a room. That's an achievement. That's why people want it. Here you go solved the mystery for you. You welcome ;)
@@kevinmorrice pretty sure it's not hard to tell time on that particular watch. I can understand you have some "special" moments trying to figure it out but hopefully telling time wont take too long for ya
Bought a 38mm Movado Museum watch 20 years ago when I didn’t know much about watches. I just knew my girlfriend at the time loved it. I bought it after getting promoted into management and I wore it proudly for many years. Many memories wearing this piece including my wedding. Been married 15 years and though I have objectively far better pieces in my collection today this Movado still has a place in my watch box. 😉
Movado has been selling a version of the Museum Watch since the 1940's. It is in fact part of their history and heritage. Movado was founded in 1881 but Museum Watch is a huge reason for their name recognition. Hell the Museum Watch design has been in production longer than the Rolex Submariner, so yeah, it's recognizable and appreciated by a lot of people.
VB3 sure everything your saying is true but back in the day the Movado watch was a revaluation no one has seen a watch like that before nowadays the museum is a crappy fashion watch
Well its a great looking watch... if you like it, buy it. Cartier also makes quartz watches; still beautiful. Don't let any watch snob shame you out of buying a watch that you really love.
I get the whole “watch enthusiast” thing, but to most ppl MOVADO just has a nice simple but classy look to them. There’s style can’t be mistaken by any other company. Someone gave me one as a gift and since day one I was given compliments.
Sorry man, but I like the Museum. It is an iconic design, perfect as a dresswatch. I also don't hate quartz movements. You sounded pretty much like a watch snob in this episode, and that isn't cool at all.
Females dont care about tool watches but they do love dress/fashion watches like Movados. My #1 complement getter with the ladies all day. It has a great unisex appeal. They are the king of the mall. Movado dont make watches, they make great fashion jewelry to grab the attention of the ladies. It says "I'm not here to impress dudes, I'm here to impress ladies".
YouYouYou!!! Man I can’t wear a quartz watch anymore. The only one I have now is a seiko flightmaster. I’m not some huge watch snob, I just don’t like movados anymore. My tastes have changed. But I don’t knock anyone else’s choice for a watch. Unless it’s a DW.
Agreed. Had a 800 series and I loved the bracelet and the watch actually looked nice. But that was before I became a watch nut lol. No more battery watches for me lol. Seriously sucks because I love the look. I would feel like an idiot to pay that much for quarts though
Interesting that simultaneously while saying they turned their back on their heritage you complain that they still use the famous museum dial watch, the most recognizable part of their heritage. The famous Movado “dot” is not a gem, it was designed to represent the sun at high noon. Why abandon their heritage as you’ve said indeed. This watch became and still is so iconic that it was selected to be part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 1960, the first watch that was ever g iven such distinction. It’s a beautiful watch, among many other beautiful and quality watches they make today.
Love my Zenith era Movado, hand-wind mechanical; the Bauhaus influence is great design (and it was a gift for a special event). Will continue to wear it and enjoy it. And congratulations on 20k!
“Trash” is a bit harsh, but to each their own I suppose. They have an instantly identifiable design, and have built their company around that design. And it’s a design that continues to sell, decade, after decade, after decade. Dare I say, it’s timeless? To not have a Movado in one’s collection is a missed opportunity imo.
I got my first Movado last Christmas for about $150 (def not $400). Its clean and sleek look is really unique & versatile. For $150, I got a Swiss Made watch with sapphire crystal, I ain't gonna complain...
It's Memorial Day. It's raining outside. All I've done all day is watch about 20-30 T3 videos ever since I woke up. And this one made me laugh out loud! I love this channel!
Funniest video I have seen in a long time. I was gifted a Movado 15 years ago. I keep it for sentimental value, would not purchase one now. Thanks for your effort and videos!
Ashraf no problem, i am buying the sapphire collection in all gold with gold mirror dial! No seconds hands means l don’t have the ticking going on. It’s so pricey, but blings more than any in that price range! I have aquaracer and pulling the trigger on a davosa two tone. Submariner homage. But the movado l can’t get out of my head, all that gold 😂💯♥️
Yep, some sales woman in a jewellery store in Barbados tried to tell me how great they were. Thank god i did not listen (...never heard of them before, is it an auto? Erm no it's Quartz). Good day madam. Seriously, congratulations on reaching 20k your awesome T3 😆
ugh my girlfriend loves Movado :( when i was in high school and college i was big into hip hop and the street life, hung out in pool halls, shady bars etc etc etc, and all the dirtbag wannabe drug dealing kingpin wannabes sported Movados, and thats still the kind of people i associate with Movado. except my girl, cause shes amazing!
I own 4 myself and one of them happens to be an Esperanza with the gold plated dial and gold plated bracelet. I'm still loving it after 20 years. The watch, however, is an automatic quartz movement. But who cares.
@@oceanblue5794 I have one Esperanza all gold plate, and one old Esperanza. The old one's gold plate has rubbed off in many places, and the band is not secure and will fall off if worn. It was my first Movado. All the other movados are in extremely good condition, or mint.
Congrats on the 20 000. Totally deserved for the great vids. Well done Jory and am definitely looking forward to the awesomer new content. That will be awesome.
Funny enough, my wife (who is not a watch enthusiast), loves watching your videos with the asides you did in the last couple of videos. Keep up the good work!
Buying a Movado is a status move for young men of style; it's an introduction brand for timepieces whose pop culture success is undeniable. the minimalist style; the diamond. I'm proud to still own my SE not just because it was endorsed by Pete Sampras but it represents what myself and others who've worked hard to afford it.
Remember, the purpose of watches for men is to express their inner Freudian male peacockiness....Movado presents a simple, elegant, but fairly affordable way to do that represents more taste and hight art than function.
Jory you're just awesome dude! You bring such energy and positivity through your videos. Loved that little cameo, skit at the intro. You were just short of a Capiche! or a Bada bing! thrown in there somewhere haha, but still quality footage man. I for one can never wait to see what you upload next. You review some amazing watches from all ends of the scale and spectrum from easy and affordable to high end/holy grail. Keep it up Jory, peace dude.
I kind of dig the larger 44mm Museum model, there's just something about it that speaks to me, but I certainly won't be paying full price for one. I keep checking eBay and local buy and sell groups to see if I can't scratch my itch for one in the sub $120 range. I'd pay that for one, if only for a lark.
I disagree. Movado is elegant to me. It doesn't just stick a whole bunch of gaudy ish on it like some brands. My favorite watches are Movado and Concorde. And I have never known a watch enthiusiast that doesn't respect Movado. What is the watches I should be wearing? A Rolex..?
Excellent Special Agent bit. Was that a new York or Jersey accent? Thank you for helping me avoid buy crappy watches. Congratulations on your one hundredth episode.
I've seen one or two decent watches from Movado post-1983. I really loved my early-2000's era Kingmatic (3-hand 2824-2 with applied arabic indices and a subtle pattern on the dial), but as you said, they tend to just rehash the Museum watch in quartz with different cases and colors, which is a shame.
The Movado Museum watch is my most-complimented watch BY FAR. About 5x more than all my other watches combined. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Though I will agree, I'd love to see a return to the Swiss mechanical movements of the past. This all-quartz shit by Movado really steams me up.
Like it or not, the current generation of Movado owners are probably in their 50-60's and were subject to Movado's advertising. The commericials for the "world thinnest watch that is on display in the Smithsonian" were expertly shot and presented and really fit in with the minimalist movement in the 80's. I own a museum watch and still find it to be an appealing watch to wear to black tie affairs.
The Movado museum is an exercise in elegance, I do not own one. It is not a daily wear, it is a watch to be worn on occasions when proper attire is required. Perhaps the theater, the symphony, the opera, etc which is the reason I don't own one. I do attend those events but not often enough to justify a Movado museum. I do have a desk top one which I like very much.
what about the 1881 automatic? no quartz movement. theres one thats a twotone with a black mother of pearl face and diamond markers, looked pretty sharp
You have no clue about the Movado Museum. Its one of the few icons of the whole watch market. And its the only one with a realy simple and unluttered dail.
i agree. They did not develop or create anything beyond the Museum Watch which was popular but never created anything unique or likeable to own. I actually bought in 1998 a Gentry Leather Strap Movado from 1998 when before awful Macy's came about to Replace Chicago Classic Department Store Marshall Field's. I had lost interest in it and actually changed the leather strap which I learned not to wear if you are an active person doing alot of running or physical exercise because the leather stinks. I had gone to a jewelry to redo the strap and turn to a 14k solid gold men's bracelet. i thought it would have appealed from the modification but I just did NOT see the love for it anymore. I ended up giving it to my mom. I actually had fallen in love with some of their specific series such as the Bold Series with it's traditional black face but the moon is blue and the hands are blue. I wish they would have made the hands glow which was a disappointment but Iiked it. The strap was not leather nor was it your traditional stainless steel in color but a matte black band which not sure is stainless steel? It was a little pricey but thank goodness my sister bought it LOL. The next one I bought was a wow Movado. It is a Movado Hertiage Datron that had an orange face and white dial and stainless steel bracelet. This was a watch I had to buy. Other than that My my most expensive watch I own that I bought in 2007 that I saved and did not use a credit card was a Men's Omega Constellation all stainless steel. I love that watch. Makes me also want to ask you about your opinion on Swatch Irony watches and the fake Made in Detroit USA Shinola Watches I was about to buy. LOL. I wish I can do Rolex but that is out of my league or finances
Thank you! I really like their minimal aesthetics where there are not even hours marks. Any brand alternatives with similar visuals that you can recommend? I would really appreciate it
It's so sad, they used to make some of the best watches back in 30s to 50s. They were arguably on the same level as Patek and even shared some of the same parts with the same manufacturers of cases. They used their own in house movements too. Now MOVADO is a complete embarrassment to what it once was. I say this as an avid admirer of their old watches.
I got one from a dear friend and it looked very nice, first thing I noticed was it was a quartz the second was a misaligned bezel ring. It was a beautiful blue divers chronograph, with a steel bracelet and solid end links. Have nothing against quartz but I knew my friend over spent on this gift. My gift last was a SMP. I told my friend of the issue with the bezel misalignment and tried my hardest to justify why I should hold on to it. In the end I returned it to the seller as the bezel was driving me crazy. It was so difficult returning that gift, once I did the seller said he had 3 others in the back, low and behold all 3 had misaligned bezels. In the end I got an in store credit and let me tell you. I could easily buy 4-6 seiko automatics with the store credit. 🙈
meanwhile after i drank lean i fell sideways and left, down onto my garages concrete floor i am 6 foot 4 inches, 280lbs i fell on my left wrist, on which was my grandpas rolex (1974 air king date SS/gold bezel) what happened after this tragedy? the watch popped off my wrist and the floor had a dent :) 0 misaligned anything since new, rolex life
Hey Jory, congrats on the 20k! I actually just subscribed today. I have a question for you (anybody else can pitch in too). I am new to the watch world, so I have been looking at your channel and others for guidance on what watches are good for several weeks now. I have actually been thinking about buying the Movado 1881 Automatic (ironically enough) for a good while now, but as of recently it seems like it is not a good idea. The watch has an ETA Caliber 2824-2 movement, so that must be something to be impressed with, right? Basically I am conflicted on whether or not I should buy this watch. Could you let me know what you think about this piece (anyone is welcome to respond with feedback too)? Thanks!
Hello TTT first of all, congrats on the 20k susbcribers! Now to the real deal, dont hate me but i saw a Movado Certa Andante triple calendar for less than 200dlls, as other option the Hamilton Martin 1940's and another Hamilton with a 987F thats pretty beat up but with a movement in good condition as a project.
I am currently getting into watches. Thanks to Your RU-vid channel. I don't even own a good watch to tell the truth but I would definitely own one soon. Seiko Skx013 I guess. You have big wrist I have small.
The irony is that time and history are related. You can buy a watch to keep time, or you can buy a watch to keep time and history. I'm in it for just the time.
I'm young, but a Movado 1881 got me interested in watches. I agree with you though. I'm glad i continued my research, as it is an overpriced fashion watch.
