You should check out valor fireplaces. They make gas fireplace inserts in the old style. Once you have that? You can probably sourse some period correct style encaustic tiles. I often get encaustic surrounds in our antique shop occaisionally , if you have old photos I can probably determine what pattern you should be looking for.
What an absolute treasure! How fantastic that the house found such caring and wonderful owners! Thank you for sharing!! Love the music and designs and seeing your house!
What incredible luck! It's a beautiful piece, I'm so glad it's back home. I live in Omaha, NE right? Imagine my surprise when my maiden name, Lyons, was mentioned in your video. My aunt has been doing our family tree for forever, I'm going to send her the link to this video and see if she wants to reach out to you.
Just found your channel. What a beautiful home and the story about getting the mantle back. Also all those wallpapers are stunning. Shame they aren't the right time frame for what you're doing with the house
Wow I found your channel today! Love it. So, how do you like Iowa? Are the natives friendly? I’ve been there several times many years ago. Grew up in West Des Moines. Now in Dallas, TX. My aunt and uncle lived in Fairfield for many years by the country club. I’ve even been to the Moose? Lodge on Christmas morning for Tom and Jerry’s. Your house is amazing. Looks of projects though. My friend from college lives in Iowa City and she repairs old stain glass. Mostly does churches. If you ever need her let me know. If I’m ever in Fairfield again I’ll drive by to see your house. There aren’t too many places like that left. I’ll keep watching your channel. Take care, Jan H.
May I ask where the antique store is in IL? I live in Chicago, and any antique stores nearby charge an arm and a leg. I'd love to know where a good antique store is.
@@juliealtenburg9671 that was our first question as well. We are pretty sure originally the room had white painted wood and was all replaced with exact non painted oak including the pocket doors which were only painted on one side the original wood and pocket doors were found in the carriage house likely removed/replaced when the mantel was taken out in the 1920s. Which we will likely cover in a future episode.
I read somewhere that removing fireplaces or building homes without them was a way to signal you were wealthy enough to have central heating. The Nanny Nanny Boo Boo of home design I guess
