I think its a duty to save all that is old and in danger of decay : otherwise it will get lost, knowledge, design, books.....its needs to be saved badly ! Give it to a museum or sell to some rich guy who wants it - as long as it doesnt get lost in time , with time

Its obvious that antiques collectors would be interested in buying them, but the home owner obviously arent interested in selling them. And I totally understand why, this items are one of a kind... Who in their right mind would want to sell such treasures?😅

Watching these videos, I’m intrigued but it reminds me all the things we buy while on earth doesn’t matter when we leave this earth… probably in this instance They didn’t want to depart or sell items.

I CANNOT conceive family members not wanting to preserve this home and it's treasures. Maybe because the family is rich and I'm poor? What a waste of beautiful things. I don't understand it.

Probably had no concept of how hard it is to actually get money.

Lack of money and time is the only two reasons I can think of. It's very sad but not everyone cares...

@@tammywilhidewilhide2832 A house that old would need new wiring, plumbing and lead paint removal. It generally costs 30% more to rebuild a house than it would cost to tear it down and build a new one. That's because of the amount of time it would take to open the walls to run the pipes and wires. Bathrooms and the kitchen would need to be gutted and appliances installed. Floors, walls and ceiling would need to be stripped and painted.

I think it's a con. Never did anything to help. I used to put layer on layer of calamine lotion on - and curse it. Itch never seemed to reduce at all. I'd scratch until it bled and then put metho on. Rather it STUNG than itched!

Yes we use it for mosquito bites and insect bites or even viral rash like chicken pox/ shingles or measels, every house has calamine lotion in Australia.

It's used also for hives and chicken pox sores to relieve the itch. Im in Australia .

I admire what you do when exploring old building and items in those people who left them there. You know your stuff . You have respect for the items. Just be careful when exploring. Since the house is Not really stable. Floors may give way. Ceiling may drop. Etc.

I also can just say thank you for the effort you two put in to show so much places we would never have the oppertunity to see. The old houses are really something. Wish that somebody can renovate it. This Portugese house with the chapel is an excellent marriage venue. Regards from South Africa.

I did some digging and the first Castro family mention dates back to 900. But the first NAMED Castro- what an amazing story!!!! So the first recorded Castro is in the 1300's: Inez Castro (f) worked as 'lady in waiting' for the Kings son's wife. She was in fact her cousin, which is how she got the job. Pedro, heir to the throne, who eventually became Pedro the Cruel (unfair name, read on) fell in love with Inez secretly, despite his wife catching on and naming her godmother to her only child (to guilt trip her into keeping away). It didn't work, the pair were infatuated with eachother, so Pedros father the King exiled Inez to South America to force his son to be a good Christian boy. Bare in mind, young Pedro was forced to marry at 16, so he didn't love his wife, it was customary to be paired off as power moves. Pedro's wife died a few years later in childbirth, and Pedro had Inez brought back to Portugal- which infuriated the King. They had 5 'bastard' children and disgraced the King further. Three high up courtiers persuaded Pedro's father that Pedro would try to legitamize his sons to Inez, causing one to become King after Pedro, which was an embarrassment. Inez was of course a Castro, just like Pedros late wife, and the Castros were extremely wealthy and powerful (almost ruling the kindom in the previous century), but it had been an affair, and they were never married- a Christian sin. They persuaded the King to trick Inez into going to an area far out in the country, where the king himself was meant to kill her. He rode out to her to do the deed, but apparently 'softened' upon seeing his grandchildren begging that he did not kill their mother, so he spared her. Upon returning to his courtiers, the three persuaded him to let them ride back and do the deed that he could not. It had to be done to save the crown, after all. News of this treachery reached Pedro, and he entered into an open rebellion against his father. Civil war broke out between him and his father. Inez's two brothers fought with Pedro, both of whom owned vast territories and armies themselves. This went on for several years and the kingdoms suffered greatly. Pedro eventually agreed to forgive his father and the courtiers, and was granted powers as Chief of Justice in exchange. The war took its toll on the King, who died soon after, making Pedro king. Pedro immediately saught revenge on the 3 courtiers. It took him 2 five years to find them, but when he did, he ordered their hearts be drawn out, one through their chest, and one through their back. The third courtier managed to go into exile and was never found. Pedro then announced he had secretly been married to Inez for a year. What ever the motives of Pedros declaration - probably the legitimisation of Inez's children, so his sons could be heirs - the alleged marriage was widely rejected in Pedro's own time. To further prove his love, he ordered the manufacture of the two beautiful tombs, which still stand in the Alcobaca Monestary in Portugal ,recording in intricate carvings, the life story of Inez de Castro, and concluding with a scene of the Day of Judgement, in which the pair are seen approaching Christ, while looking down on the two courtiers engulfed in the jaws of hell. Their tombs are inscribed with the phrase “Até ao fim do mundo…” or “Until the end of the world…” This is the story of the Cabrals!!!!

I should also mention that further down the line in the 1500s, a female descendent of Pedro and Inez, also called Inez, married another Pedro from a military family. As she was of Royal lineage, the children took the Castro name, and in exchange they were given a castle and lands in advance, which they had to pay for slowly through producing wine. The Pedro she married obviously passed down his military expertise, as their son, (yes, another Pedro) is famous in Portugal and Brazil, as he was the first European to discover Brazil. But this family was steeped in debt, as his mother Inez was left with her brother AND fathers large debts (who knows how they accrued them) when her father died. Her son Pedro did a second mission after Brazil, to India, but lost many men and most of 50 ships. He refused to go back, and the King at the time sent someone else instead. I expect Pedro the discoverer lived a lavish life, but each time a generation passed away, the next would inherit the debt. Possibly Pedro never cleared the debt his mother's side had built up, they had to sell all their estates, and it eventually crippled the family further down the line.

Not all countries have inheritance taxes. In Australia we dont, its literally a small fee to take it over and put it in your name . Not sure about Portugal.
