Both trackside and onboard provided great excitement. I have heard many of these locomotives on O Winston Link record albums. This is my 4th time seeing this great Loco. First saw it at the Roanoke Rail Festivals in 1992 and 1994 where it hauled excursions to Walton and Bluefield WV. My last experience with it was in 2019 on the Strasburg riding excursion train and photo charter.

It’s amazing that there are over 51000 views of my video. With a like to dislike ratio of 90% almost, I am pleased with the pleasure I am providing to train lovers all over. It’s an imperfect world so some may not be pleased but the success of my channel and the increasing number of subscribers I have speaks for itself. I thank you all!!!

Awesome video! Can't wait to see her again on Friday. I went right before the whole COVID thing happened in 2018 for a whistle blow and this time I'm going big - I have a ticket for the fireman's seat! Never fired an engine this big before, should be an exhilarating experience! EDIT: In case anyone is wondering, she was ridiculously easy to fire. No adjusting of the stoker jets required, not even on mainline road trips according to the crew. Stoker jets and stoker engine worked incredibly well, not once did the pressure get below 290 psi and the safety valves never popped off either. That's no credit to me, all I had to do was open 2 valves for a few seconds every few minutes to keep her hot. There's nothing wasted on this engine, she is an incredible machine and she holds the title of "The Queen of Steam" with good reason. I asked about the stoker screw breaking before they departed. It was the original screw which had a casting flaw , probably from the day she rolled out of the shop. N&W really knew what they were doing if a casting flaw lasted more than 70 years on a piece of equipment that is worked as hard as the stoker screw. A testament to the people of Roanoke, indeed... NOBODY builds ANYTHING like they used to, as is evident here.

They are actually the longest continuous chartered railroad in USA I believe. In 1956 they were selling stock stock in Railroad so the could open up again. They would walk with potential stock holders along right of way with a Johnson bar slamming into ground and hitting rail that was covered with dirt from a flood to prove it was actually there. This Railroad has a remarkable history. They do all the shop work for engines in the Pensylvania Railroad museum across the street.

The Strasberg railroad had their own mechanical shop so why would they need the railroad museums mechanical shop?

The area has changed since I was last there in the '80's. Nice angle shots.I wonder if you can still rent the doodle bug. My model RR CLUB did for out group and our wives. I can't remember if we made two trips or one for $100.00.

N&W Class J Posted by friend611 on Sunday, February 9, 2014 3:53 PM This is a series of discussions on the N&W class J locomotive, pending the upcoming restoration of 611. The first item of discussion is the top speed attainable by the J's. The J's were engineered for speeds up to 140 mph, but they were never tested to determine their top speed. (This was not a fantasy on my part. They were theoretically designed to tolerate that speed. )

Yes, this engineer looks that excited in every video I see of him. There was a group snapshot posted online with him in it ~ where a grin/ smile is actually breaking through. I'm surprised management would condone such an impersonal, uneducational, unenthusiastic team as a pay encounter. They owe you a refund!

what you should’ve done was wave to the virtual Railfan cams at strasburg and Lemman place because you might end up on of the grab bag vids where they take some good clips from the live cams and make them into a vid
