I love how all of The National's songs are kinda about growing up and coping with it somehow ... Matt Berninger seems like the kind of man you'd invite home from a wild night out, and it never goes anywhere because he's a bit too drunk and too sad, but it's okay, and you make him a cup of coffee instead and he rests his head in your lap and tells you a story about how it all got weird way back, he talks real slow, his voice like sand and honey, and it's all fine... The National is like emo stuff for grown-ups - some times there's parties but mostly there's taxes, custody battles and cars that needs fixing ... I love every single thing they've ever made ...
