My Grandfather worked on the line at Stude's. During the late 40's and early 50's he hung doors. I grew up in So. Bend. At one time about 1/3 of all cars there were Stude's.
They were not great vehicles but they were inexpensive. My grandfather drove his '50 Champion until 1973. He could no longer drive it,even though it only had 43,000 miles on it, because of severe rust. By the way: Stude had a testing site west on hwy.2. It was named studebaker testing grounds. We just called it studebaker hill.
