I think Lovecraft was inspired by grimoires, books with magical formulas that enable their owners to summon spirits and demons and let them do their bidding. The difference is that the Great Old Ones can be summoned but not controlled. They control the people who summon them (think of the cults that are prevalent in Lovecraft's work).

The Marvel comics are the best! If you've never read them I highly suggest them. Marvel Zombies. It started with Marvel Zombie vs. The Army of Darkness. It's total bad ass. Zombie Spiderman, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, etc. You throw in Ash and you got a comic of epic proportions! I hope they make a movie for the MCU. There is a fan made trailer here on RU-vid that is genius. The second series Marvel Zombies Return is great too. The other series are okay, but the first 2 are just...wow.

It was some years later that was watching something and they were discussing the Necronomicon, it kinda tripped me out because I thought it was just some movie made up shit. 😂 If you're a fan of Bruce Campbell that guy in the movie, you should check out a movie called Army Of Darkness.. it'z one of favorite movies from that genre, Bruce Campbell was funny as hell and witty.
