No sequel to a movie that is over 30 years old should be this damn spectacular! I saw this opening night in IMAX and it was one of the absolute best moviegoing experiences of my life. The sound of the jets flying by, the literal feeling of the vibrations in your seat when the G forces kick in, and especially the visuals of seeing everything from the point of view of the pilots. I legitimately believed during the final dogfight that Maverick was going to die, so few movies today make me believe that! On top of all that, the story is so freaking amazing. The theme of showing how fighter pilots are still needed even in the age of drones, the story of Rooster learning to not just forgive Maverick (not for his father’s death but pulling his papers) but to let go of being so overly careful in his flying and “don’t think just fly”. And of course the most emotionally powerful in the movie when Maverick visits Iceman. Even though he has retired due to his throat cancer and has difficulty speaking he still managed to give an absolutely heartbreaking performance.😭😭😭😭 Thank you Tom Cruise for fighting so hard to get this movie in theaters.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The reason Rooster played on the piano was to get back at Hangman. The jukebox was playing and Hangman said ‘i love this song’ so Rooster unplugged the jukebox, but the place was full so he started playing the piano to give him a reason to do so and also kind of take the lead in the bar - it was basically the culmination of a pissing contest between Rooster and Hangman, and obviously being a navy bar he would probably make the association with his memory of his dad playing that.
@danh5150
@danh5150 Год назад
Random observation and question: When H_ngm_n selected 'Slow Ride' [by Foghat] on the jukebox, it was number 86. I wonder if this was a subtle reference to the year 1986, when the original Top Gun was released? Just a thought. ;o)

11:50 if you think about it, his last memory of his dad was sitting on top of a piano while Goose played the song, so he has a connection with it. Fun fact about this scene: Miles Teller learned to play the song, this was a live take that was so good they included it on the OST, and they edited the performance into a music video, meaning Miles Teller has an officially credited cover. 24:51 I suspect Amelia already knew Maverick was there, his bike was parked outside the front door. I like how throughout the movie they foreshadowed Maverick potentially dying… “Despite your best efforts, you refuse to die.” “Someone’s not coming back from this.” “You’ll be back in a fighter jet with your tail on fire.” “I’m never gonna leave you again.” “Don’t break her heart again.” “We’ll talk, when we get back.” “If I don’t see you again Hondo, thank you.” But then he survived. Which means Maverick completed his mission of not losing anyone: “Every mission has its risks, these pilots accept that.” “I don’t, sir.” He was prepared to sacrifice himself to make sure everyone else made it back… but him coming back too is the icing on the cake. 49:18 military personnel have more than one set of dog tags, so Goose’s family would’ve already had a set. The ones that Maverick threw were another set.

When I asked why we were allowed to be SO close, they just laughed and said “because we/they are THAT good, and we know exactly what we are doing.” And they proved that. "Why does it actually look like he's flying?"....Because he WAS flying - his own personal P-51 Mustang. Also Jennifer had never been up in a small aircraft like that before, so he asked her if she wanted to ride along for the end of the movie and they will just taxi around in his Mustang and get some shots....and then he took off! lol. Also if you look closely at the pictures on his locker, there is a picture of younger Jennifer - so Penny when he first knew her, and has always kept her picture.

Also, having raised my best friend's son with her when his dad ran off (He used to tease me and call me on Father's day and because he would tell everyone I was his dad, even though I'm a woman, people thought me and his mom were a couple.), I cannot imagine the pain I would've felt being in Maverick's position when Goose's wife asked him to protect Rooster by blocking his application to Top Gun. And then, having to live with his hate, oh man, I just think about it and my eyes are filling up with tears. My sorta-son is my life, I would do anything for him, his mom is my Goose, so yeah, even though I thought the movie went a little bit overboard with the call backs and the "cheesiness" sometimes, it hit me in the feels so hard at times

Cool factoid the aircraft that Mav. flew was called Darkstar. The Chinese government thought it was a real aircraft. Then when you see him walking into the diner is actually based on a real event. Back when the SR-71 Blackbird was still flying, it broke up in flight. The pilot survived but he had to call for a pick up all the way in New Mexico but he had launched out of Northern California. So he covered a great amount of distance at that speed. The cross country speed record was broken by the SR-71. It was from CA to NY the pilot had to start slowing down over Chicago to make the landing in NY.

Nikki asked at the end of film...why does it look like he(Cruise) is flying? The P-51 Mustang used in this film, and that scene at the end with him and Penny in it, is Cruise's personal P-51. He has his pilot's license and has been flying for years. Cruise also is responsible for the actors "training" regimen to get them cleared to actually fly in F-18's. So the G's you think the actors are pulling in those jets, they are really pulling in those jets. Cruise also taught them how to set up and control the on-board HD cameras, because in a two seater F-18, you can't take a camera crew. He taught alot, did alot, and flew some of the scenes himself. The other actors were in the back seat of the jets for their close ups. And still he remains humble, and honored, to have shared this experience with all the cast and crew...as what I have seen in multiple interviews. Amazing movie! Love the react. Surprised she didn't recall Penny Benjamins name though. LOL :)

This is my first time to watch you guys do a reaction. Great reaction! FYi, The P-51 at the end is Tom Cruise's plane. He has flight certifications for several WWII planes as well as his private pilot's license,. He also is a certified commercial pilot and Helicopter certification on multiple types. The flying in this movie was all real. They would fly backseat and the military pilots did the flying. Each character had to manage the cameras, lighting, makeup and such when in the plane and each character had to go through the typical training for Navy pilots i order to be able to get out of the plane in case of trouble. And, there were more than a couple of planes that required serious maintenance to become airworthy again.

Top Gun was just a summer blockbuster with male egos and women as sex object affairs. Then along came Top Gun: Maverick, and it elevated everything. Putting Goose’s death at the center with Rooster and Maverick having a conflict of interest raises the emotional stakes and the film's heart. Having Ice Man on screen with health issues related to actor Val Kilmer’s struggle hits the feel with his on-screen passing because he was not just a character; he was Maverick’s wingman. Also, by re-introducing Penny and making her not a sex object like Charlie in Top Gun, she contributed significantly to Maverick. She was his rock, holding him down to earth and making him humble. Having Phoenix as a female pilot isn’t just for representation and inclusion, but there is a female Top Gun, Cmdr. Becky Calder flew F/A 18s for 15 years and is one of the few aviators to fly every version of the Hornet. Top Gun: Maverick didn’t just make a sequel but an excellent sequel that checked all the boxes on how to make a master class of continuing an existing intellectual property. With all the praise for Top Gun Mavericks and it is one of the top films for 2022 besides, Everything Everywhere All At Once. However, there is one other film before the end of the year, and you guys need to see RRR (Rise Roar and Revolt), currently on Netflix (Hindi dubbed). It’s a bonker of a film that checked all the boxes for why we go to the movies.

First things first, most of the flight scenes were real. They hooked up cameras inside the cockpits of each fighter jet to show each characters POVs, however none of them actually flew the jets. You asked if Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer were friends. Yes they are close friends and Tom Cruise said he refused to make the movie unless they put Val Kilmer in the movie. A fun fact, the scene where Cruise flys over the guard shack, that jet wash destroyed the set so they were only able to film the scene once. It’s also amazing the training he put everyone through before they were able to shoot the first shot. The cameras they put in front of the back seat. The actors had to know how to turn the cameras on, the lighting, doing their own makeup and hair, on top of doing the acting. You can find the behind the scenes videos on line. And, yes it is a amazing movie.

The F-14d is one hell of a plane. It's not the fastest or the most maneuverable but it's a jack of all trades, fast as hell when it needs to be and agile when it doesn't. It also had a higher max payload and larger fuel range than the fa-18 that replaced it. The fa-18 became the go to plane because it was faster and more agile. But heavy payloads weren't needed as much as bombs became more accurate. And extended fuel ranges weren't as useful because missions became shorter, time away from carrier was lessened and large fuel ranges weren't needed anymore

I was first introduced to you guys when you did a joint reaction to the Season 2 Finale of Mandelorian. I think I've seen another video of yours. Then your reaction to Top Gun - Maverick showed up on my feed. It's SO REFRESHING to see someone not in their 20's review this movie. You folks really get the moments and not just the oooh and aaaaaw moments. The real emotionally tough moments. Only a people who have real life experience get it. Stephen's summary was perfect. I personally thought the football-beach scene was kind of dumb. Which is actually good. If this WERE a movie I loved in every single second, it would feel calculated and fake. Life is not like that. Which makes this movie truly perfect. Subscribed. BTW, those would actually be a very short and fearless 2.5 minutes. You'd be so concentrated on the task at hand, there would be no room for anything else in your brain. Afterwards... ;-)

I absolutely love this movie, like Steven I saw it with my brother and dad, I never saw the complete original, but when the opening strains of the main theme began to rise, I got super nostalgic. I don’t go to the theater a lot, but I’m happy I got to watched maverick in the theater, it was definitely a great experience. This film was made for the theater.

When I first saw this I pretty much knew everything that was going to happen before it happened....and it didn't matter, that's how good this movie is, it knows what it is and what people want to see and it has one of the most likable movie characters of all time in maverick, this is why you don't mess with a good thing, I hope they make another one 👍💪🇺🇲

Pro tips... Penny is the admiral's daughter from the first movie. Hangman so impressed tom as an actor and person, he told him to ho get a pilot licence...he did! Goose learned to play the piano song, for this movie. Bob, the pilot, is real life son of bill Pullman, who played a pilot and president in Independence Day! Tom has multiple licences in real life...chaueffer, motorbike, single and two prop and single jet planes, even real estate! Hangmans ego here is a combination of iceman and maverick. They spent 30 to 90 minutes a day for months, flying for this, and had to control their own equipment, cameras, mics, etc., while in the air. Many of them ended up with jet fuel and carcinogens in their blood! The general was a test pilot in the movie, The Right Stuff and flight director in Apollo 13! The plane at the end....is Toms'!!!😮😮😮 Rooster best movie will forever be Whiplash!!! Jennifer Connelly has done so many epic movies and scenes....hrr riding the quarter operated horse is a classic! But she will go down in history for the movie Labrynth!😮. I flew with some badboy pilots back in my army days, but almost all choppers, and ine A-10 guy. My regret is I never flew in a jet.

When the female pilot says ""whos gonna teach us" and Steven said the best there is..the best there was...the best there ever will be. I pictured Bret Hart's theme music playing on the jukebox in that bar and Tom Cruise just walking in with the Bret Hart sunglasses and leather jacket and the whole bar pops just like at a wrestling event haha.... And roosters looking across the pool table all pissed off like a WWE heel lmfao

Interesting fact. The mission could have been done with F-22’s or F-35’s but they chose the F-18 so they could actually film real flight scenes like the first movie. F-18 is still in service, not too secrete, and is a two seater so they can get the shots of the actors under actual flight stresses.

You know, it's funny you guys mentioned Star Wars. "Use the Force Luke" and that comment about Han Solo. Because the mission they run, the inspiration was heavily drawn from the Death Star Trench Run, both from the valley they have to fly through, the small target they have to hit, and even the weapons on the ridge lines. I saw this movie twice in theaters! It's awesome

Fun fact, all of these shots were filmed in actual jets and all the actors are passengers in the jets and they also had to learn how to film their own scenes when they were up in the air. Barely any cgi

In th F18 when Maverick is flying , if you look over his left shoulder you will see a little square box . That is actually one of the cameras used to film the movie. ( Over the shoulder shots )Just FYI. If you pay attention , it keeps disappearing and reappearing from shot to shot with all the pilots and even BOB. it's the only continuity issue in the film that I can find . Excellant Movie !!!!

All the flying scenes are done with navy top gun pilots and Blue Angel Pilots.
