Funny enough, the Stanley Parable was one of the games that I didn’t mind being a completionist game, because I genuinely didn’t want to leave it. Playing it was such a novel and pleasant experience, I still play through it every so often to revisit my favorite endings, and I have thoroughly enjoyed introducing my brother and his son to it.
I've studied social work critical theory and sociology to become a qualified social worker, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why The Stanley Parable was my favourite game. Thank you for this video and helping me contextualize my own thoughts and feelings on the game.
I seriously think we need more meta games, especially the ones that not only satirize and parody the current systems of the modern age but that offer a bleak perspective of how trapped and oppresed we really are, as players, workers, consumers, etc. We're finally seeing people starting to realize how unfair the neoliberal model is, and with rise of movements like the writers strike, antiwork, and post-social gaming, we might see just enough call to action to push the system into a fair ground for everybody. Your analysis is great and it really makes emphasis in your previous comment that gaming is basically the ultimate neoliberal creation. Seriously, who knew games could become the mind-controlling machines we feared all along? A tiny nitpick: I think the music volume was a bit too loud compared to the previous parts, but other than that, I really enjoyed it. Hope you make more content in the future.
