When I first saw this I was amazed how old it was and then remembered Gobekli Tepe. As I did not believe there was anything religious about Gobekli Tepe, it became obvious that this center with 4 cardinal pillars was the direct inheritor of Gobekli Tepe. Gobekli 's cemter supports were a smaller version for this large building here at the Ness of Brodgar. Both ringed with stone walls, used for 1,000 years, hundreds of bones, and infilled and buried at huge expense.
