This has been ongoing for over two years on and off. Collecting parts, building, researching, etc. it’s finally at a stage where I can use it as intended. There’s still more to do but like weathering and adding a smoke feature, though these don’t need to be done. In this video we take a look at my “completed” proton pack.

Came for the FDL-3 Build Guide, stayed for the Proton Pack ;-) Quick idea regarding the smoke kit: make it blow out the front and add i.e. blue, red and green laser diodes that shoot through that smoke. Won't look 100% authentic, but may add just that little bit of wow effect.

Interesting idea! What I think I’m going to do is have the thrower smoke with the pack. This way the effect is seen from front and back. Need to test if the smoke will travel the 5 foot length or if it needs to be wired to a smoke kit in the thrower. I acquired the tubing and motors a few weeks ago so hoping to get at it soon.

Loving your build!! Very pro job :) If you still haven't weathered it (a year ago), do it with brown and/or ochre artist oil paints. Wipe them on generously, getting into the cracks, and then dry-wipe from the open flat areas. You can keep doing this until you have the desired amount of schmutz, and just let it dry. You can also do the same on the edges of parts that aren't aluminum with Rub & Buff accent paint, or just silver paint ran over the edges. Do the same wiping off if it's too much. Of course, scuffing the aluminum parts with wire brush or heavy sandpaper works, or just take it out and about :) I may have to hit you up for wiring diagrams, if you still have those.

Have not weathered it much besides scratching the aluminum. Seems to be getting weathered just from use and storage. Got a nice dusty coating on it right now. Ill look into the oil paints as I’ve seen this done and the result was fantastic. I have the wiring diagram somewhere, just email me and I’ll send it over.

Looks the part, an aluminum thrower seems to be near impossible to get, anyone that makes them seems to be snowed under with orders :(
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
Yeah there’s always a huge rush before Halloween. It took over a year to acquire all the parts just for the thrower. Keep up the search, their order books should thin out in the coming months.

@@breaksteel Possibly, but with the movie coming out next summer they may well stay pretty busy :o

That is something I didn’t account for. There might be a bit of a lul between now and when they release a second trailer and start hyping the movie again though. Keep an eye on the FreekyGeeky Facebook page, he’s got a few bodies completed. He’s been releasing them 5 at a time and announcing them on that group page before they hit his page and sell out quickly. I think he’s got 10 or 15 left if I haven’t missed a drop.

Amazing work. I just "finished" a spirit pack upgrade. I used GB fans light kit and the same sound board but didnt use the amps. Im thinking about it now.

If you have the room for it, an amp makes a huge difference. Super happy I installed one.

This is an incredible build!! Can't wait to make my third proton pack, its gonna be an afterlife version as I have a GB1 and GB2 🤘😎
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
3rd! That’s awesome. I’m toying the idea to start a GB2 pack and just let it take 2-5 years as a side project. Really thinking of building another trap and filming it first though

@@breaksteel Well technically my 4th pack as I am nearing the end of an RGB pack build 😁😁
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
You go the 3D printed route with that one, or just spray and modify a normal shell?

@@breaksteel Yeah I went 3d printed route. Got the kit from Shapeforge props on etsy highly recommended!! Check out my Instagram page Ghostbusters Dublin. There's pictures of the pack there

I have a similar LED panel for my vent light. How did you mount yours inside the wand? Mine is just kind of held in place by all the wires.
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
I super glued some threaded nylon standoffs right over the slots. Now it’s 4 screws to remove the panel if it ever needs to be serviced. The gel super glue is best for this task. It’s also easier to screw the stand-offs to the panel and glue them in place all at once. Then you can leave the light in or take it out once they are good and dried. I took it out and applied more glue around the base of the stand-offs to better keep them in place.

Did you add the pop mechanism and if so, how?

Yes, this does have the pop mech and the rotating front grip. It’s a FreekyGeeky design. I’ll see if I can’t explain it on video.

how did you get the holes for the speakers? were they drilled by you?
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
The holes were lined up using a 3D printed template that I mocked up. This was screwed to the motherboard using the speaker mounting holes. All holes were drilled using a drill press and then followed on both sides with a reamer bit.
