Building a proton pack, figured I’d share how everything is mounted to the shell. That and to share my excitement having put assembled one major part of a multi year project.

I wish I had enough time, money, and patience to make one. This looks absolutely amazing

With two small kids, and a full time job I have no time. Managed to find 5 min here, maybe 10 there. Come home and maybe primer a part. Maybe only drill a hole. Every day get a little something done. It took me over two years to build this. With no time I made it happen. I’m not saying do it, but it’s possible if you want to take a while to do it. Personally I think it comes out much better cause you have many hours to think of each step before you do it.

Plz make more videos like this one, especially if you could post links of where you got everything , what kind of tools used, what kind of paint, and if you ever decide to make another pack, a step by step guide from start to finish would be great! I have most of my parts in and the project is a little intimidating lol
@breaksteel
@breaksteel Год назад
I would love to do a step by step but that would be an intensive set of videos. I have been meaning to record a “where I sourced parts” video. Only trouble is 6months later and those sources run dry. I suppose a few videos explaining some of the processes would be helpful. Some good ideas here for sure. In the mean time if you have any questions I’m always willing to lend some help. Yes this project is intimidating. Best to break it down into smaller parts or projects. Becomes more rewarding as you see many small projects completed and the pack starts to look as one. Most of all take your time. A rushed pack always looks like a rushed pack.

@@breaksteel I think it would be a lot of videos, but it would make for great content, increase subscribers and help many people! I'd be happy to help in any capacity. I'm not sure how to send messages on this platform but feel free to contact me if you need help, ideas or some camera gear suggestions. The cosplay thing is huge where I live. I'm sure you can do it! Thanks for the comment and looking forward to more great content!

@@breaksteel I know the feeling have been collecting vintage parts for the last 2 and a bit years for my build 😅 .. I am still yet to drill a hole in my shell🤣
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
Having a drill press made drilling the shell much easier for some holes. Just drill slowly, and by slowly I mean depth, or how hard you press into the resin. After a hole or two you find it’s not a big deal. Just measure multiple times and mark accordingly. I’ve been giving it maybe 2 hours a week average. Sometimes it’s as little as 5 min to paint a part. Any progress is progress.

@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
It’s got to be somewhere between 25 and 30 lbs just the pack alone. All these little parts and electronics added up quick. Still building the thrower which might add another 5 to 7 lbs. thanks for watching!

its really really awesome, a couple of notes with regard to accuracy, the screws holding the bumper to the cyclotron should be straight head not hex, and your welds are a little big in my opinion. apart from that a very impressive build, really hoping to see more of it and looking forward to seeing it wethered It's garanteed to really make it pop once you add that.
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
Thanks for the heads up on the screw heads. Just used what came in the BOK kit. Welds do look a bit large. I made them about the size of a real mig weld with too much material added. The camera seems to make them look a bit larger for some reason. Hoping to get it weathered once it warms up here, bit too cold for paint in the garage these days.
@GhostbustersFan77
@GhostbustersFan77 2 года назад
Personally I'm not bothered by the little inaccuracies. After all these packs are supposed to be hand made so there would be differences between each pack. Maybe the welds are different on one or whatever the case may be.

Great video! Which labels are you using? And what about the brass fittings...did you source independently or ge5 from a source?
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
I’ve been meaning to record a video to explain all that. Brass fittings came from GBfans. Most of the labels came from Mack’s Factory on EBay. Some of the thicker aluminum labels came from GBfans.
@darrenvaughan2746

I wouldn't weather it. There should be an example of the pack brand new as if it was just built, tested and ready to go.
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
I have not weathered it. Kinda like the way it looks as is. After all I did just build and test it. It may stay this way.
@MWmota
@MWmota Год назад
What kind of paint did you use for this?
@breaksteel
@breaksteel Год назад
Here’s the 3 I used. Primer over everything. Bed liner on the cyclotron and some other parts for texture. Then coat everything in the flat black. Don’t rush. I repeat, do not rush. Many thin coats will make it come out so much better. I think I did two coats primer and then 3 or 4 coats flat black. (One or two coats bed liner I don’t remember) Rustolium - American accents flat grey primer Rustolium - truck bed coating black Rustolium - flat protective enamel black

What sort of material is that shell made of? Looks fragile.
@breaksteel
@breaksteel 3 года назад
This is a Benofkent shell. It’s cast out a resin. He has been commissioned in building the packs for Ghostbusters After Life. Now I wouldn’t want to drop a 40lb pack as it might crack, then again so would a fiberglass shell. If I were to build another pack I’d certainly get another of these shells.
