Hi Joe - my Dad just changed his nicely specced G30 520d M Sport into a very highly specced 530d xDrive - the latter is a beast of a car - it’s amazing how differently they drive!

I purchased this car after watching this video. I was worried it would feel too big, but Joe certainly dispels my fears. Awesome fun to drive.

I'm driving one now, absolute loving it! Great family sedan and sporty driver car!

What a fab review Joe, been looking forward to this since you did the Journey to Spain vid. A cracking car it seems, to be honest it needed updating, it appears they've thrown the kitchen sink at this latest iteration.I'm really surprised more manufacturers don't do more to suppress road/general noise levels as it always has a negative impact on the overall experience, unless of course one is travelling in an out and out sports car! The drag coefficient figure you quoted for this car is quite remarkable, I remember when Audi were boasting about 0.29, things have certainly moved on in this regard. I wonder could this car work for you in your job or do you have to have the extra dimensions offered by the seven? cheers tony

I be heard a few complaints about X drive. I was impressed with the hill climb. really thought I was going to see slip. totally right about sitting in the seats, and not on them. Nice one Joe. Also glad you put it in sports mode.

I recently got an uber which was the G30. I assume it was just a basic 520d, but it was simply the most comfortable car I've ever been in.

Your videos really help to see the whole BMW range from an unbiased perspective and I wish the people in my local dealer had as much enthusiasm as you do. Would love to go down the M140 route but sadly can only afford my 116i ATM, but it's still gives me a huge amount of pleasure. Keep making the vids!

I’ve had five 3 series and one 520D - I’ve just bought a 2018 530D and omg it’s out of this world…….the engine alone will make you melt. So folks move from a 3 series to a 5 in my opinion it’s a night and day move……especially if you do a few miles per year.

Top review again Joe. Looks like a lovely car to drive and I think that dash looks a big improvement.

In my dad's Passat, I never used the active cruise control feature until recently when I did a long trip. It is such a joy to use and very relaxing. Only bad thing about it? Getting used to braking again when you go off the motorway haha. It doesn't have the lane assist, which would be nice too. You just need to get used to using it, and trust me, it is weird to have the car braking on it's own.

Just stumbled upon your channel, as pending confirmation of my order for a new 530D M sport. Really like your channel - thanks for your efforts. Whilst my car does not have the X drive I am still very excited, I currently run a 520D which has been great - but got offered a good deal for the 530 and couldn't resist. Great car is the new 5 series. Easily wipes the floor with it's competitors. The only thing is though, you buy a BMW for the drive, as you said, but Jaguar I think have taken that crown. So if you wanted a mid size saloon for the drive, get the XF. But the 5 series is without question a better car, on the whole it is superb. But for the drivers car, XF. Great review though Joe, keep it up- great things to come!

Nice review, awesome car. Although effective, the Diesel engine just sounds so dull on a proper drive. The 540i with the straight 6 singing away would be so much more fun.

This is the best review of the new 5 series to date. This is the same car as the 540D 2018 model in the US right? The only year the US market had the diesel 5 series G30 model was for the 2018 model year, sadly. I have been looking for one for a year or so now. They're still going for $60,000 used market 4 years old with 20-60k miles. INSANE.

exhaust tips on both sides... about time (yes i know most petrol bmw's and the highest end diesels have them)
