We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ru-vid.comUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

I had these and they’re very durable and super comfy. My headband broke after nearly 2 years and has survived a lot of falls. I would recommend these if you don’t care about the mic quality

I see that they removed those cheap hinges. They always broke because they were plastic hinges with metal poles through them. After a few months (sometimes weeks), the hinges would become cracked with hairline fractures, and then eventually completely fall out. It was cheap manufacturing that could've been easily solved by making both the hinges metal instead of plastic but Sony was likely too cheap to make a revision and removed it entirely with this model. I can't say it's a bad thing, honestly bc if they were never going to fix it, its best they removed it.

I find the mic on the old PS4 Gold headset to be more than fine. I actually have to turn down my headset when other people are using the old one. I can hear them clear and more than loud enough. So if the mic is the same or a bit better than the old ones, that's a non issue. People in game don't sound like how he sounded in this video - which is weird. Also they're noise cancelling. So when your getting yelled at in the background or you dog is going nuts no one else can hear it. Just ordered these, can't wait to break em in and do a review

It really sucks they didn't improve the microphone but it seems like the headband part is more durable than the previous version. I can't let go of the VSS that Playstation does, so I need to stick with one of these latest PS headsets and the new Gold version seems good enough. Thanks for making a review!

The headband for me is the deal breaker. The original Gold are one of the few headsets that I can wear and barely tell I'm wearing them. They are extremely comfortable by putting a lot of the stress in that padded headband. Looks like the new ones put quite a bit of pressure on the side of the head.

Well I have this headset and it’s hard for my friends to hear me, and if I turn the microphone level up it sounds like I’m far away from my microphone

4:53 Lucky you. I have the same headset. I set it down to go to the bathroom, taking it off the exact same way I have for months. I come back, and the band was split in half for no reason. Unless there was a secret way you can split the headband, it appears to be randomly broken. I never once even tried to bend in that way, and now it's ruined. $100 down the drain.

I get that build quality is important but let’s be honest; if your headset breaks, it’s because you’re not careful with it. I don’t know about you but I take care of the things I buy, and I use them all the time. I still have my classic gold headset (that I bought on sale for 60) from a couple years ago and they still sound amazing. My only qualm is that Sony keeps using that stupid dongle technology to make the headphones wireless (and at that, proprietary).

My old pair of PS Golds started cracking all along the headband. The band lost all elasticity so I fixed it. These look like they might not crack like cheap plastic. Got a pair of Logitech G933s for Christmas. Very happy.

I like the hidden mic, I don’t like booms I feel like there’s something sticking out of my face especially with a beard, and as long as people can understand me I don’t care how I sound, I almost even prefer a generic sounding mic cause it has a way of masking your natural voice anyways, which I like better than people hearing exactly what I sound like. I’ll get mine in the mail soon hopefully i like em.

I own these. The sound separation is wonderful but the sound quality is pretty lacking. Explosions are mid-heavy and less bassy than I would like. I've not had anyone complain about my mic yet. The headset serves me well and I think that the 7.1 surround is good enough to give you that tactical advantage you're probably looking for. Battery life for me is 4-6 hrs on average. (I run high volumes) in my opinion, get these or Astro a-40s. I don't think there's much in between as far as value goes.

if you have a problem with a mic buy a antlion modmic the quality of those are insane and you can stick them right onto your headset

When you get these download the app on your ps4 and make the second preset from the equalizer within the app, high treble and high bass really improve the sound.

Just got these in GameStop for the surround sound since I already own Mdr 100 abn headphones, they are pretty good, got them for 60 euro, I feel like they can be either too loud or too quite but I'm happy enough

One thing to note is the original gold headset has THE MOST developer configured audio settings in the Companion App. This new headset has THE LEAST. If you want to hear games like Bloodborne, Last of Us, Last Guardian, or Until Dawn the way devs intended. You wont get that option from these. Wont get it from the Platinum headset either

Got it yesterday as a gift for my birthday today and returned it. I like the sound quality, I like the design but the mic man everyone I played with said I sounded to far from the mic or I sounded very muffled. The only way to fix that for me was to put the ear piece on my cheek to get my mouth closer. This headset in general wasn’t for me but for those who don’t mind having a built in mic this is definitely recommended!

Do they make your ears hurt (not the hearing, but around the ears) after in long sessions? I had a problem with that, using the original gold headset.

No issues with the Mic on the original Golds , Crisp and clear an other players can hear me with no issues 👍🏻

How do these compare to the Platinum?

2 years later they removed the 7.1 virtual surround sound from the gold headset and only available on the platinum that like $60 more. Least when looking at the last of us 2 headset.

One of the sides of my headset stopped working along with my making my mic very quiet for no reason.

I mean, my mic sounds 10x better then that if i'm being honest, maybe its your playback device that makes it sound bad? Have no clue.

Thank you for this video, My original PS4 Gold headset randomly just snapped on my yesterday so iv been looking around at a new pair, your is by far the best video on this headset I have come across and the microphone doesn't bother me since I use a XLR AT2020 while gaming. Since the audio is just as good with the bonus of better build quality I think I will be buying a pair of these. p.s. You gained a new sub :)

I still have the original gold ones that I bought when the ps4 first came out and they still work perfectly fine. All the people that complain about them breaking must have huge fucking heads or just don't take care of their things. Never had any complaints on how I sounded to people online and I can sound whore like a mother fucker on games. Only thing that's messing up is the leather from the ear cups. It's starting to rip from wear and tear. But that's normal especially since I've had them for years. If the new gold headset is anything like the originals then I say buy them.

You forgot to mention the static nightmare they have also cutting out of sound as it has a mini seizure. Ive been told to try a usb extension to plug in my dongle instead, this moves the dongle further away from the ps4 sytem (not pro version)

Does it work wirelessly on switch if you plug that usb thingy into it?
