For the non-hybrid owners out there, just sharing what I recently learned and that's that the full HP and torque are always available even if the EV-only charge is at 0. Apparently the engineers keep a residual charge in the battery beyond what is required for EV-only mode so that full power is always available. I'm not sure "always available" shouldn't be in quote fingers because isn't there a scenario where the entire battery 'could' really be at 0 and then you're left with just the ICE? According to all the BMW folks I've spoken with, that answer is no but I'm not ruling it out. That aside, I was panicking in a big way thinking that when my battery was exhausted after 40 miles I'd be left with a 308 HP ICE. Literally, it was enough to have me cancel my 50e order but I have been assured I'll have access to full power whenever I want it, even on 300-mile drives. It'll just be less fuel efficient but I don't really care.
You'd be literally left with a less power & very heavy vehicle for all practical purposes, you really don't want this car unless you incorporate ABC (always be charging) in your driving/usability plans. It is also less luxurious than the non LCI and quite worse looking in and out. Note in these reviews they always use a camouflaged dark color version and max optioned (close to $90K) to simulate the contrary but definitely you feel the cheap construction vs the non LCI versions it is really a downgrade you will have to live with after spending all that money. Even it has some nice and creative engineering thinking it is overall a no-go in my opinion.
Thanks for the review and best of luck on your goals of growing the channel! The video and audio quality is good, I am curious about what cameras and mic you are using? The sound from your camera mounts is a bit distracting during the driving portion though, so maybe try a different one there.
Camera is the sony zv-1f not the best but not the worst, I’ll probably upgrade when I hit 10k :) mic is integrated into it but when I upgrade I’ll just get a mic that records a separate audio track self contained. Thank you for the kind comment :)
Nice review .... You noted that the climate comfort package comes with ventilated front seats (50e)? The website makes no mention of this when I build one? The other x5's show it but not the 50e.
Great review! I’m not sure what car I’m going to get this time, own 2 bmws, I’m ready to trade in my older oner -2015 528xi m package, 75k miles perfect condition - any deals being offered on the new X5’s? What would my trade be worth and what kind of discounts are available and availability? Also when do the 2026’s come out? Any major changes? Thanks
I am planning to get bow x5 50e this December..hope my decision to go with it will be best, Any tips will be helpful while buying, Please let me know what should I mention and bargain. Also is December best time to buy?
@@grandhikarthik not really my friend, just dont be a dick would be my biggest suggestion lol. Be honest and nice to the sales person and they’ll do their best for you. 2k off an in stock unit or 1k off an order is a pretty good deal
Just got one of these for a rental traveling for work and it seems like it drives a bit jerky almost like engine braking from the hybrid. I dont think it had any charge left not sure if that makes a difference but at times it seems to feel like your pumping the brakes when you're not.
W charge down the car doesnt drive nearly as smooth. U can throw in sport & “charge” to 3 or so miles of range and the vehicle will be much smoother imo
saw a comment somewhere else, stating that the mileage can be closer to 25mpg not 20 if the battery charging is turned off completely when its depleted.
I've read lots of comments on various channels about peoples displeasure with the ability for the AC to keep the car cool (especially in really warm climates) and loudness of the fan. Apparently it's not as good as previous gens. Your opinion?
Great review but I have one question. I can't figure out what option I need to have the metal dead pedal. I ordered the x50e with msport pro, drivers assistance, and premium package. No contour or executive package. My dead pedal is completely black plastic, but the accelerator and brake pedal have the metal accents.
I think on shop BMWUSA.com you can purchase one? If not likely it would be aftermarket. If we have a metal dead pedal available will do a review on it at a later date on my channel!
So the 50i (19-23) and 50e (24-26) are from separate generations (pre vs post LCI) from a personal standpoint I think the 50e as it’s drastically more efficient and comfortable & I do a lot of short drives. However the 50i is a few years old and 20k less so if I had a family & the ability to have 2 cars I would do the 50i and have a cheap car on the side like a prius or ev something efficient.
sorry - new to phev... say you plug it in all night and then drive to your destination and work 8 hours and go back to your car, would the charge still be there? i drive 20 miles to work and 20 milles back*
You would wake up with ~40 miles, drive to work full ev and use 20 miles, drive home 20 miles then plug back in and have 40 miles in the morning all without using gas.
Yeah, BMW is shifting to more environmentally friendly, if you’ve seen the sensafin its quite nice really but thats why they still offer leather. I prefer it over the old vernasca personally. Wears better and keeps cleaner
@@CarJuiceYT Right, but my point is, in hybrid mode you should be seeing more than 22mpg if the electric motor is assisting with stop start, and regenerative braking applies.
Not sure, they all do that, I think it will eventually match down the line as they continue building Idrive 8.5. Could also be a glitch as I wasnt signed into a connected account during the review! Thanks for the comment!
@@CarJuiceYT yeah im awaiting my delivery now I have second thoughts about getting it. For Germany they are releasing a software fix until the part is available and limiting some functionalities until its done. for a 80k plus car we are not suppose to use its full potential until that repair is done and frankly which buyer want that? most are talking about not taking the deliveries. i hope BMWNA does a better job. Dealers are fighting tooth n nail to make a deal and top of it this!
@@CarJuiceYToh okay, I hope the wait isn’t too long as we’re probably going to need this X5 by the end of the year, we want it in Tanzanite Blue which def doesn’t help
The seat ventilation is better because ! you are sitting in the no animal skin leather seats and they are more breathable ! Then the merino leather seats .
So hot take on the leather vs sensafin, sensafin doesnt smell near as good. So the leather will feel more like that “new car smell” but the sensafin does a great job like he was saying of keeping you cool as well as the quilting mitigates a lot of the pressure points you might feel sitting down
I'm intrigued by this vehicle but also terrified. So many owners have had CEL issues. Stuff related to the high voltage system. Keeping it past warranty could be a nightmare in the making. Even during warranty, dealing with service and having your $85k vehicle ripped apart doesn't sound appealing.
It’s gotten better as this car has been out longer. Definitely was expecting better with how good the 45e’s were. I have faith in BMW to sort this out.
