As a dedicated fan and shooter of the .220 Swift and the 22-250 … I’m super excited about the ARC and the opportunities the cartridge offers. This time frame in cartridge development is kinda like the 2nd golden age of cartridge design & development.

Got one of Kenny's (eagle eye) from Desert Precision. His freebore is .090 vs .175 and seems to be ideal for mag length seating on these high BC seeds. I think it's a great cartridge for the platform; hope it gets traction.

I was going back and forth about building a Valkyrie, but I never saw the .22 ARC happening. With Hornady introducing this….. I think the Valkyrie is doomed to fade into obscurity. Kinda like the .338 Federal. Super pumped about the new ARC. I think it’ll do everything I’m wanting it to do.
@ronws2007
@ronws2007 11 месяцев назад
I agree. The .338 Federal was supposed to be a hot-rodded .308 but it never went as far as even the 7 mm - 08 (sometimes called 308 lite.) .224 Valkyrie just never checked enough boxes for people who could already do what they needed with .22-250 Rem. But just the numbers show that the .22 ARC is going to do everything that the previous renditions did but with greater accuracy. Just like 7 PRC is what the 7 RM might fear.

I don't understand why they keep choking grendel based cartridges to 2.260" cartridge overall length. No one makes plastic mags for grendel. Dura mags have 2.310" inside dimension. I have had zero issues with 6 ARC loaded to 2.290" . We also need a new AR15 upper that allows for a beefier bolt so we can get 58-60k PSI out of grendel cartridges
@oif3vetk9
@oif3vetk9 11 месяцев назад
I'm super pumped about it. I'll do what I did with 6 ARC, start buying ammo as soon as I start seeing it and build a decent stash then by the time I get a upper (or in this case get a barrel and put it in a upper) I'll be ready to hit the range and as I burn through the factory ammo I'll have cases for handloading. I shoot PRS and the 6 ARC has done well for me BUT the only downside is exactly what was mentioned, using extruded powders (Varget or the 100 series of vihtavouri) you'll give up some velocity but like you I'll give some up to have ammo I know is going to be consistent through temp swings. My hope with 22 ARC is to be able to use the heavy high bc bullets and still have very good velocity. If a 85-90gr bullet could be pushed to say, 2800-2850 fps out of a gas gun using extruded powder that would be phenomenal! Of course I run 24" barrels so I hope it's feasible. Was going to build a 6 gt ar10 but I'll hold off. Switching to a 6 dasher bolt gun next year just for fun and hopefully that gives me all of 2024 and winter/spring of 2025 to really nail down the pros/cons of 22 ARC handloading.

You're the first one I've seen that actually gets it. The 6 was for sending the heavy, high bc projectiles out to a 1k+ out of an AR, the 22 isn't going to do that. It is perfect though for those that want a high velocity, light weight laser out to 5-800.

I've done a test in the 223 with temp stability. Xterminator (made in Canada lot) was found to be more stable than everything tested save for AR Comp and the Xtreme powders. It was more stable than VV stuff as well, and likely more stable than most of the IMR extruded stuff suitable for the 223. So it's fudd lore to simply assume all ball powders suck with temp stability.
@K-bob_45
@K-bob_45 11 месяцев назад
Yeah there are good and bad ball powders just like good and bad extruded powders(RL-17, PP2000, Hybrid 100V). I’ve had great luck with Hunter in 30-06 and I’m pretty sure black hills uses Tac in 308. It’s like anything. Match the tool to the job and it usually works as advertised.

22 arc is interesting but the 250 is still king of varmint hunting. 200 yrd zero I am dead on to 300, when it comes to hitting small critters at range the less you have to worry about hold over the better. 22 arc seems to come on at extended ranges, 700+ yrds. But be interesting what a custom 250 fast twist 70 80+ gr projectiles would compare to the arc, my bet is it would be close.

Artillery, mortars, tanks, and machineguns cut down soldiers in the world wars. In WWII, airpower stepped up into the amount of ordnance that could be dropped on people and structures. Small arms could have been any centerfire rifle chamberings and we still would have won. .276 Pedersen would have been superior due to 10rd en bloc clips and a lighter Garand.

I’m getting 2960 with 70 grain blitzkings in 6 arc with 16” proof AR. Most coyote shots in west Texas are 300 and in. I’m not sure what this is an improvement on for varmint hunting. Past that maybe it’ll be better for target shooting but most prs shooters like 6mm because you can see miss splashes better than the 88’s in the 22. Id figure about 30 fps loss per inch from hornadys 24” down to 16”. Most likely 240 FPS loss at 16”.

I went with a 22” barrel planning on using it as a deer gun for 500-600 and in, then of course I see your video and the performance you were getting out of your 14.5” barrel. I was in the process of building another 6 ARC (which I still may do) when they announced the 22 ARC. If the 22 performs as advertised, I will stop using the 6mm for night hunting and make it solely a deer gun. Great video either way, thanks for the content

I am not against this because innovation is needed to stay on top. But part of me believes this is a way for Hornady to push the industry as a whole to new standards. Let’s be real ammo manufacturers can’t produce every caliber for every rifle. This is a way to push consumers to newer cartridges and to purchase new rifles to keep the industry alive and well!

223 with a 62 gr is only 150 fps slower according to nosler load data(I know the eld vt will be too long for effective use in 223) but still kinda just doesn't seem like enough of a boost to warrent a new rifle other than for long range target shooting. Anything of 224 diameter with more powder capacity than the 223 really should be facing an obsolete status. Any study on the 243/6mm cartridges and the versatile bullet weights shows them to be superior. An example would be 55 grain bullets in the 243 Winchester for varmints. Change bullet weights and you have a more capable cartridge for deer and in some states a legal deer round. Check out the BC on the 243 55 grain bullets vs the 55 grain 22 250 bullets.
@Trinitystillmyname

Its also is hard to get excited about a new cartridge, when availability of said new cartridge is iffy at best. For example, the fudd-tastic straight wall cartridges( legal in upper midwest for deer hunting) come to mind. 450 bushmaster, then 350 legend, then 360 buckhammer, then 400 legend. All were released in a underwhelming way. Lets hope the 22 arc will be released differently.

when all gun manufacturers make the calibre, then it might be considered, but even with the ruger 204, gun manufactuerers have dropped this calibre, sako and tikka for instance, and others yet the 22-250 is offered by many, so chasing the newest and greatest can lead to issue over time, and while many will build a rifle to suit, many can not afford to build a rifle like that. perfect example is the 22wssm ruger/browning pretty much, so i guess after 20 + years then you can say its a standard, other than that its going to be replace by the next newest and greatest

There’s 2 offerings for 6 arc now another one coming after how many years. You say there’s a ton of 6 arc out there. Does everyone want those two offerings for varmint hunting? So the ammo offered maybe available but the amount offered is only 2. 30$ a box ammo is not going to be a high volume shooting cartridge over 223 and others. I like new cartridges but you have to get industry support from others before it is going to last. The 22-250 has a lot more support and I don’t think it will be going anywhere soon since you also said you can match that performance with the Valkyrie and then said it’s almost dead 🤷🏽‍♂️

I run the 88 in a 223ai with a 1:7 twist and they stabalize just fine. My velocities are in the 2750 range with a 26" barrel so not being driven hard. At 2800fps it should be a non issue.

I dont have a 22-250 so the 22 arc is a strong contender for my $ . I was actually expectind a 22 prc. Same diff i guess.

CAN WE FOCUS ON PRODUCING MORE OF THE STANDARD AMMOS AND BRING THE PRICE DOWN. COOL ROUNDS THOUGH!

Well until Russia’s war ends, forget about cheap Russian ammo and even when that happens, inflation will have an effect too. It will come down in price but forget about pre Covid prices. Those days are done.

If anything, the 22-250 is gonna stay around MUCH longer than the 22 ARC and even the 22 Creedmoor, it's much more popular.

Am all for this. Only thing I don’t understand is when they made 6ARC they were done making 6GT ammo for George why didn’t they go with that which gave u 500-600fps. Then look they could have went with 22GT today and blew the 22-250 on it’s ASS!!!!!! Instead 22ARC can’t even beat it till it gets to 350yards. There is biggest miss issue I see. People are useing 6GT -22GT in PRS and hunting with both. That’s what I would have voted for at start of 6ARC. Then whole problem y’all guy’s missing really pissed people off with 6ARC is when u went bolt action the case is smaller than the Grendel. Now 22 ARC to me cause that issue has been fixed makes 22 ARC the king of the ARC’S!!!!!! U will never be able put more powder in 6 ARC but 22 ARC can always have more powder so smaller bullet more powder means always burning 6 ARC butt. And the 22 cal bullet will outrun it at beginning and long range

What is the impact of changing the bolt face size? Would the 6 arc and 22 arc be better if they were formed on 350 legend brass and could use a standard full strength bolt in an ar15?

Two different pressure loadings for 6 mm Arc is an accident waiting to happen. Two different pressure loadings for 22 Arc is a accident waiting to happen. You can get a 22-250 with a tighter twist rate and it beats a 22 arc. Who doesn't like new cartridges? People who got to spend a ton of money and high price to buy something that's not readily available basically no different than what they already have.

I understand the 22 and 6 ARC, in a semi auto platform. I don't understand them in a bolt gun. Not a hater, not saying that I'm not willing to learn, just don't see it yet.

Holiday puts out a lot of information some of it's accurate. The 22arc is useless because it doesn't do much more than you can do with a properly chambered 223. The 22 250 may go away because the 22 Creedmoor can definitely do more and yeah Steve hornaday probably doesn't know squat about developing rifle cartridges but the company sure knows how to advertise and Market

Will we see the 62gr VT in a valkyrie offering or do you think they will put all of the focus onto 22 arc and let the Valkyrie die out?
@txpredatorhunting
@txpredatorhunting 11 месяцев назад
Hard to say, they’ll no doubt focus on 22 arc first , but if the Valkyrie hangs in there , I figure they will slap it in there.

Excited about the 22 Arc and its potential in the AR platform, but I do love my valkyrie. Good thing is I can reload for both with the same or very similar bullets. I really want to see how that new VT shoots in a 18-22 inch valkyrie barrel and see if it is worth keeping around or saving for a rainy day and trying out the 22arc and the new ammo offerings.

Just curious if we will have the same issue I had grendel with primer pockets not holding up. Just got my 6 ARC and can’t wait to get started with loading for it.
@LRRPFco52

I've been shooting and hand-loading 6.5 Grendel since 2009. I don't lose primer pockets. I'm using Lapua and Hornady brass. Lapua brass will go for 20 loads. Federal and PPU are softer brass, so you can lose pockets on them on the 2nd or 3rd load.
@stevenbradley2245
@stevenbradley2245 11 месяцев назад
I lose pockets on Hornady brass after about 3-5 firings. Either in my AR or my bolt gun. I’m not doing anything crazy either. I’m pushing 120/123 class bullets about 2425-2450. Never bought any Lupua because I just recently got my bolt gun 2 years ago. Then everything went crazy.
@LRRPFco52
@LRRPFco52 11 месяцев назад
@@stevenbradley2245 I’ve yet to lose a pocket on Hornady brass. Most people on the Grendel Forum report 7-12 loads with Hornady. I’m loading 123gr A-MAX, SST, or ELD-M on 31.2gr of CFE223 and have done so since 2014 with that powder. I get 2490-2519fps between my 17.6” Lilja and 18” LaRue carbines, 15ft from the muzzle with that load. What powder are you using and what load?
@stevenbradley2245
@stevenbradley2245 11 месяцев назад
I’m generally using 8208xbr and ArComp. Around 26.4-26.8 grains of either of those powders. The numbers are great. I’m just not getting great brass life.
