Your vids are never to long man. Much appreciate the info. So I guess I should have dug around a bit more to see this one with the 8000 working. So the other in the box is that the first one? The one that blew upon startup? I'm so glad I chose the reliable brand. I researched for at least a month before purchase. Watchers a lot of your vids. But back then hell you hadn't very much on that wall. Oh and where did you get the Chevy Volt battery? And what's the voltage on that?

I have thought about using a breaker below the inverters rating . to hopefully prevent frying the FETs. Either on the DC or ac side. Maybe a 200 amp on the DC side. Or a 30 amp on the ac side. Even though it was a powerjack it still wasn't that cheap. They do seem to be making improvements to their product. Maybe they will have a great product some day. I got the 5kw. With the intention of only using about 3kw max. A TV led light and fridge isn't going to be alot. Then there is the 7a pull from the well pump. And microwave. I'll use the generator to wash clothes. Keep at it!

I agree as soon as you see that the fans are not working enough replace them I have had some shut downs with the fans failing. I dont think the inverter died but it did shut down because of heat. I got new fans on order.

For the cooling, you could put a couple/few temp probes on the transformers (inductors?) (7:34) so that you can turn the fans on when they got hot instead of running all the time. The heatsinks should get hotter a lot sooner than those will anyways. The other thing you could do is get a small squirrel cage fan (about 10") and run small duct work to it from the inverter fan output and have it exhaust outside. Probably could use the duct that's usually used for range vents. They are about 4" in diameter, all metal (easy to paint) and different types of connectors are made for them.

Just a thought I had. On whatever one you don't watercolor I think you could easily do this mod to the output stage. Using the fan on the output side, build a duct/shroud from the fan to the output heatsink. Cover the fins so the the heatsink is enclosed and the fan will pull air all the way from the open end on the opposite side of the inverter, directly through the fins. Cut a few holes along they way so that the fan side of the heatsink gets some cooler air for more even cooling. The rest of the fans should be enough to keep the input/diodes/transformers cool. But, as always, do some testing before and after. I used this trick repairing the original Xbox 360s. Since the cooling system in them was pretty crap.

SO how do the mosfets compare. It sounds like their continuous amps, assuming it's additive are not enough to account for their being 4 less of them. The burst seems to be the only superior spec.

Have you looked at just getting 1 proper inverter (like the magsine I assume) that uses transformers like the aims 15kw 48v (norm split phase 110v 7500w each 110v output 15kw max, bonded 220v support)(cut off 66v I believe) surge 15 seconds is 30kw, the unit can be used as an automatic fallover to mains as well and has gen startup circuit output

I find it odd how according to the datasheets the bigger one in the TO-264 package can only dissipate 250W at 25C where the smaller (4.4mm narrower) can dissipate more wattage at 378W at 25C same at 100C 100W vs 151W, anyway some good thermal paste as well as the thermal pad should help keep the igbt's cooler, as long as you dont go too crazy with it you dont have to worry about getting a short through the paste

I'd like to get one of these. do you think the 24v versions are similar. I only need about 4-6kw. at peaks with about 5-10amps continuous. just in case my powerjack craps out. it does have a modular design. where the gets are on separate boards . easily replaced. that's what sold me on the power jack. easy to replace parts. that doesn't mean I want to replace them! I like Franks 120/120volt inverter. but that's alot of batteries. and hi volt DC is hard on breakers and switches. I haven't grounded my inverter yet either. I'm just using extension cords. I only have room for 300 wat5s more before I need another controller. for 1500watts. I still need to finish my DC generator. for batt charging. do you know of a control board for controlling fans? I would like to have enough power to run a small AC during the hottest parts of summer. other than that. all I have is TV, fridge , microwave, and a few led lights. I want to experiment with a wood gasdifier. to cook with and hot water. but propabe is fine for now. I want to also use my wood stove for hot water. and maybe steam for running a steam generator for batt charging! that would be awesome. if I only got 10a @30v / 300watts. but I would shoot for more like 40-50+ amps. I do have 2 each of 130a & 150amp 12v alternators. I'm going to run in series. . that's going to take a bit of power to spin. I have a 3hp Briggs I want to convert to steam. to spin a smaller 24v alternator. I just need to figure how to charge lithium ion with an alternator! the cheapest way possible. you have any ideas? sorry for rambling again! keep at it man. and keep us informed on what's up !
@GoingOffGrid101
@GoingOffGrid101 6 лет назад
if you don't use more then 6500w this is a sweet inverter, as you can see in my videos im not easy on inverters, what kind of control board for fans temperature controller? dc generaters are fun to make I will be making one out of a 6.5HP champion engine soon :D cheapest way to charge from alternator is a capacitor to smooth the power out of the alternator then use a buck or boost controller depending on if your lithium battery bank is higher voltage or lower then you alternators voltage. thanks for watching!

G160N60 Datasheet PDF - Fairchild IGBT - theres something going on other than just the size in the mosfets, as you now have 8 50a mosfets and before had 12 60a mosfets... And yeah, its getting really hard to buy genuine these days. as an ' i like to play with mosfets ' guy, I think they have gone for less as its simply cheaper and can still hit the mark on the amps, but theres a lot better heat transfer with these bigger ones, 25'c/w over 40'c/w so maybe thats the reason, and why the old one had more, to spread the heat load. fact they have made a change shows they like their products to evolve, and thats always a good thing and we can only guess why they have done it

this guy learned the hard way about reactive power vs wattage used. reactive power is the amount of power that is being actually being drawn. I have power meters on my generator power inputs and on my inverter output. the reactive power can be up to 10% higher . I run my inverters at 80% maximum same with my generators . the inverter I have are 20 years old and still work fine .get more fans and they run all the time . I use Outback inverters.

Hi mate I'm wondering if you can give me your opinion about the reliability of the 6000 watt Reliable Power Inverter. We have a ministry that uses large amounts of off grid power in mobile 4WD trucks that are each fitted out with a large 12 volt fridge + coffee machine & the big power user 2400 watt zip boil hot water. When I run the zip boil I only get around 48min before the Redarc management system starts to beep and shows low battery power of 56 percent left meaning I have to turn off the zip boil .I have a bank of three 210AH AGM batteries with 200 watts of solar on the roof connected to 40 amp Redarc battery charger hooked up to a Giandel 3000 watt continuous 6000 surge inverter that seems to be over heating . Would upgrading to a lager reliable 6000 watt continuous inverter give us longer performance ?.
@GoingOffGrid101
@GoingOffGrid101 6 лет назад
no it will not, you problem is you either need more battery capacity or more more solar on the roof, the 6000w reliable inverter might take the load better but, it will use the same power and your batteries will die in the same amount of time, the 6000w will run a larger load but with that option you will only be able to kill your batteries faster. if yuor looking at the 6000w I would go all the way up to the 8000w its a very good inverter and hard to break.
@richardgibson4345

Why not have a dedicated inverters in each of your rooms? That way, it would not cause that much heat in your garage/ distribute the heat coming off from those inverters from each room. The FETs that are used in the inverter are probably the fake ones 😝

If you can't afford a Split Phase HQ INVERTER, A Meanwell might be as bulletproof as your going to get. They are experts in High-Reliability power conversion and are not Mainland China.

No ! Those are not MOSFETs ! Those are IGBTs. You can check. Just google G160N60 & the result will come out surely. Anyway this is just for info only. Your detailing is nice & informative.
