They didn't back in Golden Age Hollywood times - however, there is a great A&E tv series from around 2003 that has Maury Chaykin as Nero Wolfe and Timothy Hutton as Archie Goodwin. Libraries should have it and it also got re-issued on dvd (for much cheaper). There are two seasons and you can 'test' if you like it with the first episode (pilot was a test one with actors in different roles) which is "The Doorbell Rang" - got put up on RU-vid (individal so totally free). Hope you like it!
