This game will never leave Early Access, no Donkey Crew game ever has.

Holy crap, your villagers are able carry half a tree on their shoulders. They should be able to fight of the bandits on their own !

It could be a good game, but they aren't getting my money until the game is finished. I hope it doesn't get abandoned, because it looks actually good.

Last millennium I played a game where the NPC's could NOT push through each other, they filled their space. It was very helpful when fighting large groups to use this to shield you from other combatants. Its remarkable that decades later games still can't do that.

I am glad that Splat pointed out about being wary for developers since they abandoned games before - will pause for sure but I really LIKE what I see so yea only on wishlist :)

The idea is good. I see from the comments that they don't trust the publisher, and that seems fair. I'm saying the IDEA is good, and whoever can realize it well shall prosper.

Oh no- I just saw the publisher on the Steam page and it's Snail Games.... Notorious for their mishandling and predatory practices in ARK

Well, that IS a conundrum, if it's a seemingly good and interesting game even after 9+ hours or so (visual ghosting aside) but there's some troublesome history for the devs and publishers, well...

Ya this game is delivering on everything I hoped it would. The biggest issue with games like this is follower AI and I have never had an issue. They know what you need done once you set their follower type. The first time I went to craft something and realized I was missing ingredients, I turn around and my following is already walking back with what I needed. It's just fun. It does what it says on the tin, and it can only get better. Already worth the asking price easily.

Especially with this game, it's more important to see mid to late game and not just the start. Would also be nice to see a little more of the enemy AI.

Combat def gets better with 4+companions. I wiped a squad last night… so satisfying

"Directional combat is the future in gaming" My thoughts exactly, after playing the 1999 title Silver. What a fantastic combat control scheme it had. If the developers of this title adapt the way block and parry works as well, it will definitely be a blast to play.

The skill assigning for people looks imilar to Stranded Alien Dawn where you assign each person a priority so you can specialize people into certain tasks to get better performance. i.e. a deicated researcher / forager / hunter. Those are some HUGE rabbits. Hadn't realized it is Snail Games USA publishing until you said, thank you a bunch for the history. I am definitely going to take your advice and watch it for a bit before pulling the trigger. That and Manor Lords just launched into early access as well.

I wish there was more focus on left-handed models... With as much customization in games today it's frustrating not having this option. Thanks for all the vids!!

It's simple, wait for a while and see how it goes. I hope you cover this game again in 6-12 months time so we can check how it has progressed.

I'll keep it on the wishlist for now. Lets see how much longer this game will be supported. If in the end of the year this game still gets patches, I will take a look again. Looks promising tho

What I am looking for in games like this is Bandit/Criminal Rehab mechanics. If you can recruit wanderers, why not defeated bandits? SpaceBase DF9 and Space Haven have this feature and it is exciting. For this game, I'm thinking a village prison could be added to the game. The defeated bandits are placed into the prison(s), then after a certain amount of in-game time, the bandits are either automatically converted into villagers or they need to be manually recruited. If they are manually recruited, then the devs could add some randomness, some kind of conditions, and/or the bandits could just randomly reject the offer for whatever reasons. If the offer is rejected, the player could be given an option to execute the prisoner or make him serve a longer prison sentence until they eventually concede. Usually the stronger bandits would need more time in the cell before they cave. The player would need to have enough housing built for the prisoners prior to recruiting them, or the negotiations would automatically fail. It would also be rewarding if the villagers had stats showing which tasks they are naturally good at, so the player can place them in optimal positions. Plus, adding bandits as villagers will add more fun as the player could only see their stats once they become villagers. So there is some risk and reward when converting bandits, because it will be a surprise, you could get some really awful stats or really OP stats. Not knowing is part of the thrill.

This reminds me of a much older game called Hinterland, same idea but the combat and perspective is that of Diablo

As one of the people from last oasis. I am not mad that they left last oasis to make this, I am mad that they didn't communicate for about a year and left the LO community out to dry while they were internally developing this game. They should have been more open and communicative on their plans so that they didn't leave their community without official word for months and months on end.

It's pretty cool that it's all one map and not an overhead travelling map that switches to third person scenes like Mount & Blade.

That UI ghosting is DLSS for you. It's the same problem as how your game doesn't look sharp even if you chose highest graphic settings.

I don't know man, a developer with a track history of not completing things fails to instil me with confidence about anything they say.

Yeah it's gonna take a lot of bug-fixing just to get it working let alone enjoyable. For instance, the bloomery is simply broken, so i can't use anything with metal. Other people have had the same issue or issues with other structures like the campfire or the loom.

I’ve bought ark, last oasis and played them both very plentiful. This game is also fun at the end of the day and see myself putting many hours in this game as well. Looking forward to further content

Last oasis was one of the most fun games I've ever played. And honestly, it was released a full game. Season 1 and 2 were great. They started making changes that no one wanted and thats why it died. But overall, they did a great job on it.

I took it off my wishlist as soon as the reviews came in and I learned more about it. Looked promising.

I like what I see but I'll wait and see with this one. I don't want to financially support abandonware companies, if they finish it I'll definitely pick it up however.

hehe, for raids, if you look at the number in the middle of the red skull it'll tell you how many are coming for you :) About the combat, that's mostly a result of your skills. Once you get them up to like 5ish it's pretty fluid. lol, you just kinda start out as a nothing burger. Also, when your villigers go down, the first time they'll recover and respawn at your base with a wounded icon. If they go down while they have that wounded icon, then they are dead dead.

The publisher will fuck this up, but if you're looking for a little bit of fun in a medieval rpg, this is a fun one with friends. Don't expect it to ever be finished or feel like a complete product.

There was a one-man indie game a few years back called Kingdoms, which was pretty much the idea of what this game is. Unfortunately he never completed it, but that may well be how this one also ends up lol

Yeah, as decent as this looks all the complaints of previous games by them being abandoned is pretty much a death nail for me. I enjoy the vid, but won't be looking into the game. Probably better off waiting for Hades II.

I dont have a problem with indie devs using AI, if they make a good game IDC. As a small business owner I also can sympathize with them abandoning a project that is not financially viable, we all have bills to pay and if I keep selling my apples below market value im going to be homeless too.

Im 54 years old. Bought the game, LOVE the game. Snail games may have there issues and i never played last oasis, never cared to but this game is amazing. Honestly, if your complaining about a game that cost 26.00, your just a spoiled child. Seriously. Ill give you the "back in my day" speech. The days when you spent 60.00 to 100.00, got maybe 20 to 30 hrs from a game IF you were lucky, no patches, no free content, no paid dlc, NOTHING. A freaking 2 hour movies worth of entertainment at a theatre cost like 50.00 plus for to damn people. You all live in an amazing time for gaming. Enjoy it and stop your baby ass whining.

It isnt the game splatt. It is the company. The backlash is justified. It doesnt matter if the next game they make is a perfect 10. They need to fix their mistakes with the Ark games. Cant trust snail usa, an off shoot of a chineese company. I guess i couldve just said the game is chineesium. But meh :)

I wish devs wouldn't bother with voice acting, to be honest. They don't even need to use AI voices, just use text so they can make longer/better dialogue anyway, I always felt like voicework in games like this was kind of a meme anyway because most people will read it faster and skip it anyway.

my main issue with the game is the performance. Overheated my GPU somehow forcing a system freeze (AMD) having to turn off the power switch on the PSU, I wouldn't be surprise to see GPU getting messed up by this one. I had fun for the 30 mins I played tho. It scream medieval dynasty with more focus on combat, which is a win-win in my book.

It's not entirely about Last Oasis though... It's about Snail in general making poor decisions and abandoning more than one game. There's also been some side-eye over the use of AI voice acting as a place holder, the ethics of using AI for creative purposes when the data is most often acquired against the wishes of actual talent, and whether or not they'll actually make good on any of their promises. I do love the way it looks, and the way the ai works with the villagers. Still. Cautious. Thanks for the video!

I skipped this game to buy Manor Lords and found ML is missing a lot of stuff I like, like questing and small skirmishes as you showed in Bellwright, I'm in a quandary now, you are henceforth known as "splattercat the quandary giver" :)

It would be cool if someone made a game like that but it was based on Genghis Khan and you would end up running a huge army invading country after country making a huge empire.

It's not just people from Last Oasis, they tried to make this game before and failed spectacularly. OKAM (Of Kings and Men) is the same game these devs tried to make that bombed massively, and they have a longer history that stems from a mod called cRPG for Mount and Blade Warband from which they are trying to copy their success from (which is also full of it's own drama and controversy). It's a story of mod team goes pro but fails, sadly. I do hope they succeed this time around, but they are definitely not a team with good credit history so to speak, and going under Snail to publish the game makes me even more uneasy about the future success of this title.

I have certain principles that I stick to. One of them is to never play a Snail Games published game ever again.

Which do you think is better: Mediaeval Dynasty, Manor Lords, or Bellwright? My problem with Medieval Dynasty is that I don't think there is any combat besides hunting animals unless they updated that recently.

I want this to be good but I'm not going to buy it until I know it's going to approach something resembling a complete product.

DO NOT GIVE DONKEY CREW YOUR MONEY! They release early access games and abandon the game as soon as sales dry up to start the next scam.

I really wish Donkey Crew was ran better, there games have great ideas but they always seem to fumble somewhere along the way. Last Oasis was one of my favorite games.

The AI voices are better than that other game that uses AI voices Spacebourne 2, but I'm with you on the use of those. Game looks fun but the reputation of the developer gives me pause. Is it worth the $26.99 (without sales tax) to later on down the road have it abandoned possibly?

It’s because of the success of Dark Souls and developers thinking that it’s an rpg (it’s a action memory game btw) and it’s success derailed the entire rpg genre. One day directional combat will still eventually win out.

And you do assign jobs and there are even a priority system. I'm actually enjoying the game and I enjoy it more then mid evil dynasty and I baught mid evil dynasty on launch day for early access but I don't trust snail games hopefully they take this game seriously

This basically looks not very different from the last time you covered this game, and I'd be very careful with the publisher and developer. If they do finish it, it would be worth looking at.

Directional combat may be the way to go but not the way they´re doing it right now. There is something off about it and feels "ragdoll-ish".
