🛠️Stan with Over The Hill Adventures does an install video with the new Andersen Gen 3 Ultimate 5Th Wheel Connection Hitch in the bed of their 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Turbo Diesel truck. This reengineered, light weight 5th wheel connection hitch makes it easier to get it in and out of the truck and allows for more space while it is mounted in the bed of the truck. This hitch of choice will tow Stan and Rhonda's 2024 Grand Design Influence 2903RL and allow room for their mountain bikes once they unhitch. Come with Stan and Rhonda as they highlight why they chose this hitch and prepare their new trailer for Season 7.

Great Job Stan! I have the last version and will be getting the new version. Love this hitch! BTW, If flip your chains and break cable around, you will hood the chains to the coupler and you don't have to get in bed to hook the chains. I checked with Anderson they said that was perfectly fine. The chains have the same support regardless of which way you connect them.

A great step-by-step instructional video, Stan! Thanks for sharing. It really helps to have proper tools, too. It's amazing how many RVers don't even have a torque wrench, much less a proper tool kit. It the hitch definitely looks like a good solution for those with steeper drives. Ours slopes down to the garage from the street, but it isn't too bad. Have y'all ever considered making a video about tools all RVers should carry? Maybe y'all made one, and I missed it. Well, many thanks for the newletters! They're nicely done! We love y'all! Take care, safe travels with the new rig, and God bless y'all! Bob and Dottie

The problem with most saddle based systems is limited articulation. Front to back longitudinal range is fine, but side to side latitudinal movement is nonexistent. They will actually put a lot of stress on a pinbox and frame in turns where natural articulation is needed such as is shown in a video clip at the end of this demonstration. I’ll venture to say that Lippert engineers know this and it’s a primary reason they would certify the Reese Goose Box. Highly likekly that many of the flat hitches on the market have contributed to, if not actually caused, frame breaks on many of the Grand Design cases with Lippert frames.

You are exactly right! I needed the side to side articulation with my steep driveway. Did you know Lippert owns Reese. We are extremely happy with the Gen3 Andersen connection hitch. Thank you for your comment. Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

Had the second gen. Absolutely hated it. I hated having to raise the pin box high enough to back the ball under to clear the coupler and then getting it centered to lower the pin back down onto the ball. Almost every state requires safety chains when pulling from any type of ball style hitch, including this one, so that was one more thing to have to deal with. Not to mention the worry of it folding up or snapping that aluminum ball off during an emergency stop situation. I towed with it for roughly 2000 miles on 4 or 5 trips and I was sick of it. I ended up buying a B&W companion and hooking up and unhooking became less involved. I will say the Anderson was light weight and easy to move around so that is a plus for anyone who needs to be able to do that, but we didn't, so it was of no advantage to us.

Hi Stan, I'm enjoying your channel. It's really informative and thoroughly discusses real world issues. We're also upgrading to a fifth wheel from a travel trailer. Our new fiver will have the same hitch weight and same overall length as your Influence 2903RL I also have a Silverado 2500HD but a 2024. I really like the idea of the Anderson hitch using gooseneck mount, but I also don't have the factory gooseneck prep. I'm planning on the using the same B&W turnover ball underbed hitch, especially after watching your install video. I've ran all the numbers and I'll be under on the max payload and rear axle weights. My only concern is will I have extensive sagging/squat of my rear suspension? I'm wondering if the 5" offset ball built into the Andersen hitch will move the distribution of the trailer's pin weight too far behind the rear axle and cause excessive sag in my rear springs/suspension. How are things working out for you? I saw you were planning on adding air bags, etc. but how is it now before you install those? To help with possible sag issues I'm also planning on installing a set of the Timbren SES while I'm installing the B&W hitch. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim, thank you for reaching out and joining us. I installed the Airlift 7,500XL. I only use 35lbs of air and I’m still to high in the back with the 5er hooked up. With our set up we are not experiencing any sagging at all. I would highly recommend the airbags. My friend Scott who is the west coast distributor for MORryde has a 2024 High Country 3500HD. He is pulling a 2023 Reflection 337RL. It is lighter than the our trailer. He has a long bed. This is what we discovered, the only difference we saw on his truck verses ours was the big helper factory leaf spring. Having said that he has squat! I have no squat with the airbags and works and drives incredible!! It an amazing experience towing even in high winds. I hope this helps and reach out at anytime. There will be an installation video on the airbags soon! Blessings. Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

@@OverTheHillAdventures Stan, Thanks for the feedback. Going to a fifth wheel from a bumper pull has me really trying to think through any possible pitfalls. It's really helpful to talk to you seeing that you just made the switch. I was a construction manager for 30 years so I always try to research things when I get into a new situation. Now it looks like I need to research those air bags. I'll let you know if I have any other questions. Thanks again and all the best!

I had the gen 1 and eventually Andersen upgraded me to the gen 2. Trying to decide if I want to upgrade to the gen 3 or move to the Reese goose box or the Gen Y hitch. How do you secure your mountain bikes in the truck bed? I built a pvc bike rack but it's kind of a pain and I am looking for a better option.
@OverTheHillAdventures
@OverTheHillAdventures 2 месяца назад
Great to hear you have had your Andersen hitches a long time. Tried and true! We used to secure the bikes in the truck bed with a truck bed rack (rear wheel wedged in toward the cab) that we bought from Amazon along with motorcycle straps and a bungee securing the front tire. That’s how we transported them with our bumper pull and it worked great! Now we are not using the rack because of the fifth wheel because they are now on a bike rack for travel. So now just using the straps and the bungee when we want to take the bikes to the trailhead. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for reaching out! ~ Stan
