I'm super excited for this season especially for Onana, thought he was phenomenal in our last preseason game, I still think we could invest in a better CB alongside Joao Felix but maybe Konsa (and Mings!) coming back will help! Aston Villa are a team that needs to be taken seriously next season. Under Unai Emery, they’ve been going from strength to strength and in a span of 18 months they went from being a mid table club in the Premier League to now playing champions league football and at one point last season they were actually in the title race and even though they didn’t win the league, finishing in the top 4 was enough for their season to be successful and they’re looking to build on it. One of the things that their team has under him as a proper identity because you know how they’re going to set up every time they play assuming everyone is fit. Going into next season, Manchester City and Arsenal are likely going to be battling it out for the premier league title once again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Villa make a surprising deep run for the title and that’s because they have an elite manager which is a key part of football, they’re not short of talent in their team: Ollie Watkins is an elite striker and was one of the leaders in combined goals and assists in the premier league last season and we saw his iconic game winning goal for England against the Netherlands at the EUROs, Emiliano Martinez has been known for his international career as at the Copa América he was excellent for Argentina yet again where he helped his country win another international title and he’s also a very good goalkeeper, John McGinn is a phenomenal workhouse in the team, they have a good backline and Leon Bailey is a great winger, they’ve had a good transfer window so far and have added more players to their team which is key in trying to balance out the premier league and champions league football. Despite losing Douglas Luiz to Juventus, their midfield looks strong after signing the likes of Ross Barkley and Amadou Onana, Onana is an elite CDM, many Everton fans know how good he is and he was one of the only positives for the Belgium national team at the EUROs and he had a great string of performances, he could be their Rodri and Rice, he’s not as good as them, but having a proper defensive midfielder elevates a team and he’s incredible when it comes to his physicality and strength, Barkley reignited his career at Luton Town last season and he’ll add more creativity to their team. Ian Maatsen is also another very good addition to their team at left back and even though he didn’t get enough opportunities at Chelsea, we all saw how good he was for Borussia Dortmund during their run to the champions league final last season on loan and given how great he is from an attacking perspective, he adds a lot of width and value to their team. Not to mention that they want to sign Joao Felix and hopefully under Emery, assuming they sign him he’s able to resurrect his career because he’s too talented of a player to be going from club to club without having any sort of consistency. When you factor in Watkins who has gotten better with every passing season, their defense and balanced midfield, a world class goalkeeper in Martinez who can come up with saves at any time during a game and Emery, they’re a dangerous team and we expect them to be in the top 4 once again assuming he’s able to cope with injuries and utilize the depth they have in their squad and we’ll see how they do in the champions league even though he would probably want to get relegated to the Europa League since that’s his favorite competition, but jokes aside, they can cause other teams problems in the premier league and I wouldn’t be shocked if they challenge for the title even if they won’t win the league.

I'm happy with what Emery is doing with our team, he's building a team for now and the future and with his contract renewal Emery will develop these young players and find roles for them.

Onana was playing for Everton so right now he doesn't seem great on the ball, he already has a good passing range and is only 22, I feel like he will progress a lot on that front under Emery

Almost 💯 correct. Bouba Kamara is excellent on the ball, excellent in transition, very press resistant. The last 18 months have been very harsh in terms of injuries. If he and Onana stay fit, Villa will get top 4 again, will get to the quarter finals in the Champions League and maybe a domestic cup! UTV

Brilliant window so far, for me the best signing has to be Onana, he is a beast. He was being used in a predominantly defensive team under Dyche, so for me his game can only elevate under Unai. I'm thinking maybe a Yaya toure style midfielder

Villa fan since early 70's, great video mate. It's just about momentum with the Villa, if we get off to a flier and the new players fit in and the injured players slot back in then anything is possible. Villa park itself is important, there is a point where it feels invincible and the crowd knows it, if we are anywhere near at Xmas then will you bet against us? New variables at Liverpool mean its not 100% the tactics / players start well.

I have to pull you up on our 1st season back in the prem. No team had changed so many players and stayed up, we had a very old team and swapped it for a very young one. We stayed up despite no team staying up with seven games to go in the position we were in. We also got to the EFL cup final and lost to Man City that season. Considering we had to buy a whole new team it wasn’t that bad , year one of the 5 year plan culminating in 4th and champs league last season.

I like how Villa is keen on squad depth. Part of what makes me more confident in them than Newcastle is that they aren’t just preparing their first team. To be fair Newcastle didn’t have it easy with their group and referees but a lot of their problems last season stemmed from them not being ready for that level and schedule.

Think villa will finish around 6th 7th or 8th this season. Lots of villa fans getting carried away. Lost two first team players and brought in Barkley and Onana who aren’t as good

Don't blink on Villa this window. They just put in a loan bid for Kalvin Phillips. They would have known that they can replace Diaby with a similar high calibre player, and I suspect it's a matter of days before they sign Felix.

I am an Arsenal fan from a long time, but I do enjoy watch Unai beating them...I don't like Arteta, I don't know why, and they totally screwed up with Martinez....Arteta isn't a man manager like Unai....and he plays so f>>>ing slow....The game this week should be great. I rate Emery over Guardiola. Unai Emery invests in clubs on a slump & makes them into teams reaching Euro Semi-Finals. His work at Villareal on a budget was phenomenal. Guardiolas a chequebook 'coach' who waltzes into teams, Barcelona, Bayern, Man City who are already number 1 in their countries.

When NSWE bought the club and told us their plans, a lot of us believed them. We were called all sorts of names, we were mocked and called delusional when we said that we are coming to compete at the top end. Even today I get comments from people saying we will be relegated soon. I don't take the bait and have a laugh with it. The same thing was said about the Milwaukee Bucks winning the NBA too but Wes Edens went on to do it. NSWE have brought in the very best staff to run footballing issues and it's showing. We have hit our target of Champions League football within the first years of ownership and the next step is to sustain our place near the top and it's possible because we have built slowly and with stability at mind. The future looks great at Villa. I just hope the league can agree a change to PSR to stop the Sky 6 from being protected while having the teeth to stop reckless overspending. We have a waiting list for season tickets running into the tens of thousands. I hope to see development of Villa Park to accommodate at least 55000 fans in the near future but we are hamstrung by our bankrupt council and lack of investment in traffic infrastructure.

As an arsenal fan, I see villa finishing top 4 again. But not challenging for the league. Might just finish 3rd.
