It's the 30th March 2024 and The Northampton & Lamport have just opened the Southern Extension. I'm invited up to the signal box where I'm shown the inner workings of the base and get the opportunity to capture Boughton's future Signalman being trained by the one man who knows the box like the back of his hand. Big big thank you to all the volunteers that made the day a one not to forget.
The big episode is available on Purple & Co Railway Adventures and after posting onto Facebook and volunteer came through with this awesome statement. it is as follows.
To give a bit of background on what came from where, and who did what. The signal box wooden top structure came from Betley Road, near Crewe. It was delivered to the railway by former railway member and volunteer, the late Nick LeCount, who used his low loader that he normally transported his steam roller to shows on. Most of the lever frame came from Croft Sidings signal box near Hinkley, when the box was decommissioned. The new locking frame and all of the Boughton signalling system was designed by Graham Peacock, who also project managed the whole extension project, as well as 1000s of hours of physical input. The brick base of the signal box, along with much of the new platform front wall, was built by railway member and master brick layer, Gary Austin. Andy Entwistle as the railway's professional S&T technician carried out a full test of the system to ensure it was 100% compliant with the design. The only time the railway had to employ professional external contractors, was for the two road cranes that lifted the restored wooden signal box top on to the new replica base, and the road/rail digger drivers that facilitated the excavation of infill from Pitsford & Brampton, and filled in the space to make the new platform at Boughton, the spoil being moved by railway volunteers using our iron ore wagons. The above names were all assisted by volunteers, some just putting in a few hours a month, others doing 100s, but all resulting in what can be seen here today. 🙂
The Northampton & Lamport railway could always do with a little extra help so if you're interested in knowing a little more about how you can then check out their website linked here www.nlr.org.uk/

What a fascinating and informative video Purple. You and Ryan make a formidable videography team, capturing footage from different perspectives and editing it together to present such quality content on your channel that it's a pure pleasure to watch. More power to your elbow mate. 👌.

Brilliant, loved seeing the workings, would like to understand more. What I do realise now is that my Victorian family relations that were signalman, were in fact programmers of their day or parts of a mechanical computer

Yh exactly. I wonder who invented this thing and how did he/she discover it.
