Not gonna lie, restricting blind spot monitoring to the EX-L (which is $28,460 after destination!) is crazy... That should be standard equipment nowadays.

The length of the cargo area matters more than the height when I'm loading my 2019 Civic Hatchback Type R. Huge interior, comfy rear seating, a great package. Bikes, guitars, amps, mother-in-law, all fit so easily. Alex is a super-human! The new Civic design is very handsome on the road.

I’m currently waiting on the market to turn for something with a lot of power, but if I wanted a compact, I’d grab that Civic. I saw the sedan for the first time last summer at night and although I can usually identify head- and taillights at night, I thought it was an Audi from behind with the slim lights; the title is spot-on. LOL Ever since then I was impressed by the revision, especially because I NEVER liked the last gen outside of the Type-R. - Great review as always, Alex!

Once the new Accord design (2023-24) is released I will know what direction to buy. The Civic is way less radical than that predecessor, less features than the current 2022 Accord. This new Civic interests me with the new look. Yet we are running out of time with cars with traditional HP and looks. By 2030 cars will be all online eco clone cars

@@stereomtl9001 IRecently I have been shifting back to considering the GR86 again after a ton of reading reviews and posts from owners. That Honda motor with the turbo oil gas dilution situation worries me. No word if the motor has been updated or they are pushing the old motor onto the market some more and not worrying about the consumer complaints. It is probably cheaper for Honda right now to go forward with the old motor. With the GR86 an affordable MT RWD will be a dinosaur probably in 7 years. It will have resale no matter what with that layout to the tuner community. I will keep reading.

@@Bondovw All I read about is Honda dealers doing a software update, extending the warranty, and telling owners to change their oil at 3,000 intervals. Still in a year maybe someone will be posting if they are having this gas/oil issue with the 2022 and onward models. Right now I am leaning back to the GR86 if I start reading Honda is coy about it. Too much money to destroy an engine over, or sell once it hits 60,000 miles. My main hang up on the GR86 is high octane gas on a non asperated engine (why?), but I would rather not have gas in the oil issues which is way way worse.

IMO, this is how the 10th gen Accord should have been styled from the beginning. They missed an opportunity to do it with the lift back esque design they did in 2018. It would have been the most practical in its segment. Or the only one. You mentioned the HR-V in the beginning. It's now common knowledge that the 2023 model (for North America) will be based on this civic and not the Fit like the last generation. So there's a possibility that the new HR-V will get the same engines as the Civic, but with CVT only. The HR-V will also become more practical as a result.

I see one thing that I like on the spot touring model is the homelink garage door opener. Something that vw doesn't have on the gti. I like the homelink because you can easily program it to open more than one door and i don't like having a garage door opener clipped on to the viser. Also, think about it, that garage door opener is practically a key to your house. With the homelink, it's inactive without the car being on. My nissan altima has a homelink and I have it programmed for my garage and when I go to my mom's apartment building I have the homelink programmed for her building to. Park in one of the empty spots, visit mom and I don't even have to step outside. I would need to have another garage door opener clipped to my visor too. Homelink, Alex should be pointing that out.

Well done video covering the new Civic Hatch. I was looking at the Touring Hatch, as my wife drives the 2021 CRV EX-L this would be different, but similar to the CRV. One Big Disappointment with the Civic Touring is the lack of a memory drivers seat. Since we both would drive the vehicles this is honestly a deal breaker on the Civic. Lumbar adjustment would also be nice on top line trim, but not a deal breaker. Also 6.6 in your 0-60 run is considerably faster then in other reviews. All the best from Wisconsin.

Great review. But you completely brushed over the benefits of the 2.0 over the 1.5T and that being long term reliability. All direct injection engines are inherently more complicated and designed that way solely for emissions and they all have carbon buildup issues to some degree. The addition of a turbo will also increase your odds of problems in the long term. The Civic LX with the 2.0, 6MT is my choice for the long term. It has less worry some 16" wheels and is 200lbs lighter than the Civic Touring CVT and with the 6MT will be more fun and engaging to drive.

The problem is every review is of the highest trim and the lower trims are very different (and not as impressive)

You still get the best driving compact mainstream car on the market regardless of what trim you choose. They put their money in the driving dynamics and not technology
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 2 года назад
They aren't that different. The basic dashboard design is the same. Yes, there are fewer premium materials, but that's what you should expect in a base trim. The audio system is more basic and there are fewer electronic extras, but that's also normal. Mechanically there is very little difference aside from the engine. The transmission and suspension are the same.

I had 2 turbo cars 2019 RDX which was a rocket but way too loud because of turbo. I also owned a 2019 BMW 430i in white beautiful car and super fun and it wasn’t loud like the RDX engine. Beemer is much more premium brand than Acura/Honda. one downside of a beemer it wasn’t very comfortable because of seating position but boy was it fan and cool looking. Now I drive a BOSS 4Runner which is smooth like butter on highway amd you don’t need 1000 horsepower like most reviewers make you believe. It has a 4 litter straight 6. FYI THE HIGHER THE. DISPLACEMENT ON AM ENGINE THE SMOOTHER IT WILL DRIVE AMD EXELETATE. Now I’m looking for a Second fun car that’s good on gas. 2.0 civic hatch is an option but there are none around and it’s far from affordable due to markups.

Excellent design much better than last Gen which was runt of the litter. Give it a HUD and 360 degree camera system and a redo of the turbo to eliminate fears of oil dilution and carbon build up on intake valves. Great review!

Although the sedan's tail lights are a bit oversized, I prefer it over the hatchbacks design. Also I saw one of these on the lot and boy it was panel gap city, especially at the hatch

Alex, I had to stop and rewind the video 6:00 to confirm the Civic actually has less rear headroom that the pitiful quantity we find in the Corolla hatch. Once again, fashionable, swoopy lines severely compromise function. In Honda's case, the relatively generous rear seat legroom is negated by the ridiculous deficiency in headroom.
@jimbo5635
@jimbo5635 2 года назад
I rarely, if ever have adults in backseats. I think most people that do will buy a larger car. Head room just isn't that important to the average small car shopper.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 2 года назад
It's borderline to me. I do put adults in the back, but arranging things so the tallest passenger is in front is usually possible. It looks like a six-footer could fit if he was in a more normal, relaxed position. Alex was sitting bolt upright when he was against the roof. The Mazda3 has poor rear legroom and about the same headroom. The Corolla and GTI have less legroom and only a little more headroom. Only the Mazda strikes me as a problem for adults.
@rightlanehog3151
@rightlanehog3151 2 года назад
@@markmiller3279 Form is supposed to follow function not impede it. The exaggerated slope in the roofline is a design indulgence that will force many people who would prefer to drive a car to get a less efficient CUV instead. For nearly a decade we have had a trend of slicing rooflines of sedans and hatches. The sales trajectory across the industry has been downward for cars as they become more and more stylish. Practical people are forced into CUVs whether they really want them or not. I cannot specify numbers for Hondas but if you compare today's Corolla hatch to a Matrix from less than a decade ago, the roofline is 6 inches lower!
@falkin42
@falkin42 2 года назад
@@rightlanehog3151 I feel like it's the other way around. Shoppers went to "practical" vehicles first and then the sedans focused on style and carrying people, not stuff. Most people don't notice rear seat headroom because they aren't in the rear seat for extended periods, or they slouch more. I'm very appreciative of style forward sedans but they don't have to be for everybody and there are still several that are not.
