If you own a CRBN, which option will you be choosing?
@seanp777

I don’t own one yet, almost bought one right the issue started. Guessing it was an incoming quality control inspection issue. I appreciate what they are doing with all the options for their customers. I think I’d do option 2, if I was current customer.

#2 Awesome that CRBN, a small company is doing this. I had an issue some time ago with my Selkirk paddle and they made you jump through hoops to get a resolution! So much for the "large" companies taking care of their customers.

I went with option #2 right when this went live a couple days ago. My wife loves using my old crbn 2 for rec play, so now she gets to keep it and I get a new approved crbn paddle for tournament play. It's the best of both worlds!

CRBN got massively screwed here and looks like they are doing their best to handle the situation. They may even have legal recourse vs USApickleball for their poor testing procedures causing damages to the company and no one else, it kind of seemed like they were singled out using a very shoddy process for testing. USApickleball really overstepped here IMO.

Wow just got into the scene and what a mess! Glad to see CRBN has done everything they can as a small company to protect their customers... I am from the marketing world and the future is totally in these kickstarter like grass roots companies that are being developed within their tight knit communities, you dont need a multi million dollar R&D and Marketing leg when you are living within the scene. The pickleball community is absolutely just incredible and a perfect breeding ground for these types of small businesses to develop. Unfortunately when small businesses start to cut into the profits of giants there tends to be a path leading to corruption, more legislation, and downright foul play. I was absolutely flabbergasted to say the least after watching "the kitchen" interview with the Czar of USAP paddle enforcement "Donn Paben." He made some stunning admissions in his video, this dude must live in his own absolute bubble world because it is unbelievable the stuff he was admitting to without any hint of greater public awareness to the process he was describing. #1 he admitted to having no real personal oversight over his process #2 he admitted to personally selecting whatever samples he was going to use without any process #3 he admitted to having very personal relationships to major paddle manufactures #4 he admitted to activating testing protocols based on requests from rival companies #5 he intends going forward to share none of his process or findings with the public only handing out punishments. If CRBN has the budget or means i would highly recommend getting a private investigator on this dude, he is probably on yachts wining and dining with heads from head and franklin on the weekly. The USAP as such a powerful central force seems to be ripe for corruption and for them to have such an undisclosed process and for so much trust to be placed in powerful central figureheads is shady and dangerous to say the least. Watching that guy gave me the creeps and i had a very real sense of foreboding this was the type of thing we will all watch on a netflix documentary some day

Both #1 and #2 are no cost options for CRBN. Obviously #1 is, but I'm guessing $60 is enough to cover their costs; paddle production, shipping, etc. I'm not sure who their overseas manufacturing partner is, but TopCarbon produces T700 'raw' paddles at $25-35 depending on volume.

I actually did do a test. Old lower case CRBN from November vs white bold letters in all caps. Virtually no difference. I think it was about 40 RPM. Both were still 1500. Blown out of proportion IMO.

I saw you on someone else's video and you mentioned you knew of at least 5 paddles with more spin. I know the 002 is one and probably the Joola. I'm hearing the new CRBN does not have the spin potential of the old paddles. Since your spreadsheet doesn't look updated, what are your top 5 highest spinning paddles? (I am waiting on my Option 2 paddle)
@PickleballStudio

My spin spreadsheet is actually very up to date. Unless you are looking at the wrong tab which contains my brothers results and mine. There's another tab with only my results that stays up to date.

I got my new USAP approved CRBN2 with a serial number yesterday and the surface is noticeably less gritty than my banned CRBN2, the Joola Ben Johns Hyperionl (CFS) and the Gearbox CX14 quad. I haven't been able to play with the new approved CRBN yet due to injury, so I don't have any direct feedback to provide. CRBN was great in keeping me informed and appreciate the different options - Hoping I like the new, approved version as much as I did my old paddle. Thanks CRBN. Thanks to you too Chris for the great videos.

I thought that option #2 is a very fair and generous deal by CRBN as well, that's what I chose. The CRBN 1 that I have is the best paddle I've owned since I started playing. I was wanting to keep it anyway and still get an approved paddle for tournament play, glad they offered this option. This is a good small company I hope they survive this B.S. There are many other paddles using the same T700 skin so why is it that CRBN is the only one being tested?
@JackBauer529
@JackBauer529 2 года назад
The Joola was partially field tested by Donn Paben (the head of testing, and the sole word on pulling the crbn), and it failed. Donn told the two highly ranked players, "You don't want me to keep going. It's already failed the two least strict testing directions." Of course, Donn didn't know he was being filmed, and the video was layer leaked. The the CEO of Joola videos himself testing a paddle with the same Starritt meter and the paddle failing. But Joola isn't tested and banned like crbn. Total bullshit.

how inexpensive are these paddles to make when they sell a 200 dollar paddle for 60 bucks AND you get to keep the other 200 dollar paddle

Over the top, wonderful and exceptional customer service. I took option number to instantly, even though, of course, the company is likely coming out a little bit ahead because I'm guessing they manufacture their paddles for $60 or less. But it is also clearly a win-win situation. Love my original carbon paddle and use it all the time and recplay. Head and shoulders above other pedals I've tried. I'm happy to pay $60 and get another one, especially because of course I can use it in tournaments. With this sort of extraordinary customer service move, I anticipate the company will not only maintain but will expand its customer base. I have been a fan of the product, and now I am also a big fan of the company. The company also seems to have been unfairly treated from everything I've read about the band and its origins and the double standard.

@SchittsFrozn
@SchittsFrozn 2 года назад
This whole thing was such BS. The fact that the 002 is the grittiest paddle ever made and has not been tested/banned tells me all I need to know. I think Selkirk called their friends at USAPickleball and told them to start testing CRBN paddles. If I were CRBN, I’d file a lawsuit vs USAP to make them test 1 new paddle of every single model used in professional tournament play. Let’s see how many pass this “grit test”. I agree CRBN went above and beyond for their customers with all these options, which is why I chose option #2.
@PickleballStudio
@PickleballStudio 2 года назад
Actually, the 002 is well under the legal limit. I talked to some independent testers (competitors of CRBN and Selkirk) and they said the 002 passed with no issue. I also spoke to Selkirk and they confirmed the same for me.
@Squaredot01

@Wesquire
@Wesquire 2 года назад
Spin and grit are different. Grit is only one factor.
@SchittsFrozn
@SchittsFrozn 2 года назад
That’s interesting, I thought the test specifically graded the grit on the face? Is that not the case? I bought the new Ben Johns paddle when CRBN was banned and it gets just as much spin as the CRBN. Do you guys know the name of the machine used for the test?
@Wesquire
@Wesquire 2 года назад
@@SchittsFrozn The test does specifically measure grit. What I'm saying is that spin numbers are not a direct correlation with grit. The gearbox paddles have high spin and virtually zero grit. Theres several other factors in spin generation.

While the sentiment is that CRBN got screwed, the people who bought their paddles and couldn’t use in a tournament got screwed worse. This shows the risk of people getting into a market without prior manufacturing experience - even outsourced manufacturing experience. Perhaps a lesson that needed to be learned in terms of not leaving the quality control to others...
@cobramcjingleballs959
@cobramcjingleballs959 2 года назад
“Without prior manufacturing experience - even outsourced manufacturing experience.” You do realize that only 3-4 paddle makers make the wire in the USA, yes? Joola has some pretty hefty prior experience and yet the Starrett was harsh on them too.

I mean, they are in the right to question why only them being singled out. A Majority of us also believe the same thing; where there may have been a vendetta against CRBN after the Punta Gorda tourney (JW beats Ben Johns in Singles for that one). Even Joey from Pickleball Pirates stated it as a theory (never proven). But goes to show, the politics behind Pickleball are getting out there.
