I've just upgraded, working my way through it, BUT, at this very moment the single thing that has made me ecstatic (no laughing 😉 ) , in the new mixer as I was selecting what I wanted to see in I noticed you can now include the 'notepad' in the strip and edit it directly , a daft wee addition but it's made my day ........ 🤣
The thing I am most unhappy about Cubase 12 is that when you are scrolling with the mouse wheel trough a project you can change the levels of your tracks and not even know what happened until you play the song and notice something is off. Did they fix this?
My dream comes true for many features out there specially the key editor & it's range selection tool. Thanks bro , keep it up and wish you all the best.
Decided to upgrade from 12 pro after watching your video. The upgrade price seemed fair. Hoping you will be adding new material to your Cubase classes/courses. They have been educational and inspiring. Thank you
The Import from other projects.... functionality you mentioned exists as early as 11. You can select existing tracks to import straight to. The problem with that feature is it still doesn't let you import multi-out VST instruments in full.
Great video Chris, thank you for this presentation! I like the Black valve comp but I can't say I'm a fan of the new UI design though. As an orchestral composer, the new Note Editor may be handy but definitely not a game changer in term of workflow.
Hi Chris, This version of Cubase is really amazing ! I will upgrade it very soon ! especially for the version of Iconica wich is very usefull in my case . .. Thanks a lot for your work and take care of you
Chris. When you boost an eq gain that clips the chain or if your recoding and everything clips right through the plug in chain. Has cubase introduced something like a ctrl+x shortcut to turn off every single clip red light through ever track and plug in with the project... that would be useful so when you play the song from start to finish. You know if a track clipped on the chain rather than checking an eq to may not have used but did clip the chain.... BETTER STILL. cubase should have a show clipped tracks. So yes is there a shortcut to turn off all clips. Cubase 10.5 user and yes at some point I'll update...
I just upgraded to 13 but I haven't set it up yet Chris but what I know I like is accessing the channel strip from the project window! I'm alway clicking on the E button in the channel browser to get it in the project window! My final mixes are done in the full mixer view!
I recall in Cakewalk Sonar that the play head could return to start when the stop spacebar was pressed, or stay at the stop position if Ctrl-Spacebar was used. Or vise-versa depending on the default stop setting. I am surprised Cubase doesn't have a similar feature yet.
Well the new overview look, right off the bat, it looks and feels so much easier to work with. Those plug ins are a nice feature. Chris you always make it seem so easy, I just tippy toe through it and learn the best I can. You amaze me. Well done Chris and thanks for your time and education. Cheers Bruce - p/s YES I will upgrade.
Hi Chris, Glad to see that the new Cubase version released. I have been using Cubase for more than 14 years and I loved every updates. However I found that the previous versions were CPU heavy and may be that the GUI is heavy but it seems that version 13 looks like Studio One and I guess the execution speed has been improved. Have you noticed anything? Grateful for your thought. Happy Cubasing!!!
1) still they got alot to work on improving GUI. 2) a lot of these features ( like mono to stereo track conversion, inspector in the left side ) existed in other DAWs 20 years ago
That's how Steinaha rolls. Calling it "modern" while looking more basic than the previous. Removing things then reintroducing them as new.... Changing the GUI while leaving the bloated code underneath. - Wow.
Great video Chris. a) I love the change the made visually. I can spend hours without my eyes getting tired. b) I love Transport. c) The Enhanced MIDI Editor is a life saver!
Great Video. But I don't really understand how the undo/redo function work in Cubase. Could you make a video on it. Anyway, your explanation is easy to understand.
Thanks Chris, for the quick rundown of the new features. I just got finished installing the upgrade this evening and am looking forward to getting started. AND with UAD now at v11 and VST3 I can also get Cubase out of Rosetta - although the new plugins will need to be explored. Seems like the biggest update though was almost forgotten, just a casual mention near the end and I hadn't actually heard it anywhere else - MIDI 2.0! I think that alone could open up seemingly endless creative possibilities in the near future! Glad to see that :)
wow a year and a half for that? what a disappointed folders as groups? hiding the lanes so you can crossfade without any takes underneath. But thanks for the video it was great
Excellent, as usual. Does the 'convert channel to stereo' work on groups? Only asking because I'm forever greating groups and adding my channel presets to them... and then realising after the fact that I created a mono group channel by mistake! So, that feature, whether on groups or audio channels, is one I'm going to use. Also, the vocal chain looks good to me. As far as the visuals go, it looks a bit more ProTools I guess - and less cartoonish, if that makes sense. More professional looking. Great vid!
i appreciate your detailed explanations. hoping that steinberg someday will incorporate options to do parallel processing inside one audio channel (like audio effect racks in ableton or patcher from fl studio) without having to route the audio to separate bus channels and bringing them back together
20 yr Cubase user… always stayed loyal and absolutely loved C12’s feature set… but I think there was an issue in my upgrade from the previous version to 12 which causes the software to crash and or lock up constantly. I even invested in a Modular rack so that I’m not running a ton of heavy cpu eating v synths but that has no effect on this freezing. I’ve coped with it and will probably just upgrade to 13 but this is the closest I’ve been to changing DAWs in 20 years than I’ve ever been.
I share your disappointment with c13. Nothing but eye candy and a few VSTs of no interest here. One thing you could try is erase C12 and C 13 5en restart then load C13 only.
I've had zero issues with Cubase 10, 10.5, 11 and 12 on Windows 10. Do you have an NVidia graphics card by chance? I've heard of them having issues depending on the drivers. I'm just using an old UR22 Mk II at home and on my laptop I don't even use an Interface (Just ASIO4All or the generic Driver depending on my headphones).
13 versions of Cubase and still no chance to freely move channels within the mix console and detached from the arrangement view…. Come on guys! Are u serious?? Too bad in 2023!
Love the updates to Sample Track, Key Editor. Range tool is nice but not there yet as Ableton where you can isolate certain notes to repeat and still no stretch notes in key editor. Love the new inspectors.Missing recent files reset, m4a import, more advanced freeze features, folders as bus option, better track preset managment with drag and drop to browser to save like in Studio One. Currently it is a hassle.
Very cool video Chris, thanks for sharing the new features. I love that they've finally allowed a channel to be changed from mono to stereo and from what I believe you said from stereo to mono. Has there been any change as to how to use a multi mono plugin on a stereo bus without having to do some kind of workaround such as the video on your channel on how to do that? Multi mono is significant in terms of compression. You don't want something needing compressed on the left to also compress the right unnecessarily. I'm not sure how Cubase has had this issue for so many years and hasn't addressed it. I hope they got it right on this one. This would be a reason to upgrade!!! As said in other comments, this looks more like a .5 version change rather than a major version change. I will upgrade but I'm not really an early adopter as there are usually bugs in the initial release and I'll wait and see how that goes before upgrading. Besides, I'm in the middle of mixing a couple projects right now and wouldn't want to switch in the middle of a project. Thanks Chris!!! 😎🎶
An update that's primarily focused on refinement with voices and some more usable gimmicks they could have added a while ago. Those musical EQ tweaks add a nice touch, and it's great that they've included a vocoder, though I was expecting more AI advancements, particularly with voice cloning and stem separation.
It’s a great upgrade with some much needed polish and workflow refinements. Honestly, my favorite new features are the far left zone, scroll wheel scroll modifiers, and the quick stereo/mono channel conversion.
I've paid the same amount upgrading from 11Pro to 12Pro on March 4th, 2022. The price didn't seem to drop for this one either. So we can do two things, either get used to it or create a petition 😂
Interesting stuff. The channel configuration (changing a mono to a stereo track) would be very useful for me. But it seems like the only new big feature to me that I need. € 100,- seems a bit too much for this upgrade.
Amazing. Does anyone know if Steinberg fixed Automatic Quantize which only quantize 100% (very few instruments should ever be quantized at 100%). The logical thing would be to link AQ to soft quantize as well. I am aware of all the other options: midi insert percentage quantize, logical editor note position and quantizing with soft quantize after recording. All of these have its place, but AQ linked to Soft Quantize would be the quickest workflow option in my opinion. Always moving forward with less distractions.
Wry nice update! Straight to the workflow! (what takes the most time) I was expecting group folder to be introduced or improved the old folder so it could be processed! Better routing options would be also grate, dual mono, and Sandboxing
14:50 my favourite new feature, I always start recording just to input a new chord. So far the new features where a bit underwhelming, but now it gets better. the new GUI has to grow on me. Great video, very nice and detailed job like we are used to from Chris. Thanx
Nice update, but would be great if we could get, instant audition of presets sound, like in Komplete Kontrol.. Loading sounds in Halion is too slow, killing the workflow.
With plug-in managers like Komplete Kontrol and AkAi VIP, a user can audition any preset Instantly, before loading it . So, Cubase's media-bay, could make proxy audio files, for the presets of any selected libraries. It would be like browsing the Loops and Samples section of Cubase, but the audition sample is pointing to, calling, a preset for that sound when needed.
Great video Chris! Always learning a lot! Upgraded from 12 Pro today. Hoping on a fast update so it supports MacOs Sonoma. My 12 Pro hanged a lot at loading projects and the first release of 13 does that as well. But overall Cubase still rocks after all these years.
The mono/stereo switch is an excellent idea, as are the key editor improvements. Would like to have seen more enhancements on the MIDI remote control, which is a fantastic feature but could use 1) some usability tweaks, and 2) way more pre-written scripts (which could be donated by users as long as they could still be editable). I'm sure most people would be happy to contribute. I know I would. How about a utility that would test 3rd party plugins to make sure they are robust and won't crash Cubase? Or maybe something that would catch a crash in-process and isolate the plugin to avoid a major crash.
I expected Folder track view in Mixer like Logic, wherein all the track in that particular folder can be hidden and unhidden. Nothing looks attractive to me.
Okay finally had a few solid days to dive into 13 from 11. What an amazing update. Truly, I don’t think you need to go outside the Cubase environment anymore all the plug-ins, the channel strips, vocoder and vocal chain, the beautiful layout, the mix console, all the routing everything is on point my favourite new tool is to utilize some of the new features in chord track, I felt I always get stuck with chord progression and arrangement but now, with the new ease of use on how to choose chords, it really seemed to speed up the workflow. Thanks for all your great work I’ve been watching your channel for a long time! happy holidays to you and the family😊
Hi Chris, slightly off topic - i was just wondering what you are working on/doing usually ? Would you tell us (or already did ?) ? Regards, Chris :) (oh, and thanks for the C13 video!)
Cool new features! I think this one just addressed functionality for me more than whiz bang additions. I've got great plugins already. I hated sliding those tiny little bars around on the side of the tracks lol. Love the new side bar with the fader
Some really useful features and plugins! I would still like to see an update of the VST Amp Rack as guitar amp modeling has progressed light years since this plugin was implemented.
Hey guys! Just upgraded to 13, but the most importantworkflow feature is gone! "the back to start point when stop" Do you know where it went or how to do it now? Thanks!! Great video Chris as always!
I planned to upgrade to 13 Pro (I am on 11Pro atm), but honestly, I do not see a valid reason. I got so many plugins, I couldn't care less about the extras they offer. So, as long as it works with the latest Windows OS, I am good. I mean. I come from VST 5, so I am on board a long time. The power and possibilities nowadays are breathtaking.
