In the 1970s hit series "The New Dick Van Dyke Show," Dick Van Dyke, portraying Dick Preston, receives a Hollywood invitation for a screen test, sparking hopes of stardom on a new TV show. As Dick prepares for the test, doubts about his own potential to become a star surface. Alongside Hope Lange, who plays his wife Jenny, the series follows the modern married couple's comedic escapades in raising their teenage daughter, Annie.
Set in Phoenix, Arizona, the show seamlessly weaves between Dick's role as a local television talk show host and the humorous challenges of family life, featuring an ensemble cast including Angela Powell, Fannie Flagg, David Doyle, Marty Brill, and Nancy Dussault. I remember this from it's original prime time network run, but I don't really recall if my folks watched this regularly. We must have watched it enough though because I remember the opening credits/music and especially Hope Lange. She had been on another show, "The Ghost And Mrs. Muir" and I was just a kid, but I remember REALLY liking her. The show only lasted a couple of seasons or so, and I think I was happy to see her on this show. I've seen episodes now, many years later as an adult, and "The New Dick Van Dyke Show" is actually pretty good.

Growing up in Phoenix the NDVDS was a big deal. In those days Carefree was still a sleepy out-of-the-way town and having a celebrity like DVD not only living in nearby Cave Creek but having his new show filmed at Carefree Studios was major for the valley. Angela Powell, who played daughter Annie, was from the valley.
