"We'll see about that!" pmsl 😆 Yet another fabulous FDT episode. I love Martin Balsam, he's one of the greats. I'm a massive fan of 12 Angry Men and Psycho which he stars in, and any time he pops up in something, you know you're in for some class. This looks like a really creepy TZ episode, what an amazing concept. I can't wait to see it. Great job Anthony, really enjoyed this. Have a great weekend ahead, dude! 👌🎬

Heeeey Greg! Glad you enjoyed it man and always happy to hear from you! FINALLY, A NEW UPLOAD!!! One of the best of the hour-long episodes! I wonder what would've happened if say Martin's boss said that aside from finding a buyer of the wax dummies, he also would recommend Martin as the museum tour guide overseas?? What could've been...

I had an old "Laffing Sal" that I kept in my garage. She was one of a hundred animatronic figures that used to be found standing over the dark rides at various amusement parks - she stood 6 feet tall. I kept her pristine over the many years that I had her, even buying her a new dress and hat and even a new wig after the years outside in the elements at the amusement park (I kid you not) - I even touched up any chipped paint. I would show her at conferences and conventions and such. Like this episode, my wife eventually made me get rid of her (note my pronoun: not "it") because my wife was tired of being startled by her standing in the dark garage when my wife did the laundry (our washer and dryer are in our garage). And, like the episode, Sal ended up in a museum: Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. Consequently, this episode was frightening on more than one level for me. Another odd tidbit: Laffing Sal stood over the dark ride at the Pike amusement park in Long Beach, CA (long since bulldozed over for condominiums). In the 60's, the TV show, Million Dollar Man, was using the dark ride as a location. When one of the grips started to move one of the scary dummies housed in the ride to scare patrons, the arm broke off revealing an actual corpse. I encourage you to google Laffing Sal and Elmer McCurdy.

I always felt both sorry and a bit unnerved by Martin, how some people sympathize/rationalize with not-so-great people (to put it mildly). Like his passion is admirable but goes too far with covering up the figures' deeds. Also agreed with the figures being "alive" being a delusion, that makes sense logically. I liked that connection to Psycho as well! Another great vid! Bravo! ❤

Hey dowsingelf77! I agree about Martin, you can sympathize with him a little initially but once he starts covering up the heinous crimes, he goes too far. And since it is suggested, he's actually doing the deeds too, that makes it all the more horrific. My idea of the inconsistencies being part of his delusion is the best way I can explain some of the stuff here. ha ha. Thanks as always for checking in & for the kind words! Have a good one!

Yo, what's up FDT! I know Season 4 of the Twilight Zone is divisive among fans, but this is hands down my favorite season 4 episode. I feel like if there's ever a museum of modern serial killers there'd be wax figures of Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer and the Zodiac Killer. Speaking of which the way Martin obsesses over the wax figurines is very unsettling because it reminds me how people admire serial killers to the point of being a fan. I study serial killers not because I condone what they've done, but to understand their backgrounds, psychology and motivations to kill. Another brilliant review!

One of my favorite creepy ones thanks to the wax figures and Martin Balsam’s soft spoken yet eerie performance. Plus the deaths are so gruesome despite mostly being off-screen & the final twist at the close is haunting because it makes you wonder even though we technically see who did it, but was it what actually happened with some dark magic or did Martin snap and blame it on the figures since they can’t actually speak
@OldMovieRob

This was another great review! I've never seen this one but it sounds fantastic, with a very Hitchcock-style twist at the end with Balsam's character winding up immortalized in wax himself. Sort of funny thinking about some guy just wanting to bring home a bunch of wax serial killers to store in the basement, much to the chagrin of his wife, haha.

My fiancé was familiar with my love of true crime (I listen to podcasts about true crime to help fall asleep) but as we watched the episode, I was fighting to keep from sharing cool facts I had learned about these killers. But he noticed the excitement on my face and joked “Maybe I should go through your mail. Anthony, glad to see this latest one, but unfortunately don't have much to say about the episode but that it's creepy good. I will note that the knife in Jack's hand is real and that the button/switch on the platform works...at least for the first murder, could his poor wife have simply stepped on the device and accidentally got herself killed? It's a sign that he's losing it, that he is more inclined to believe in a waxwork come to life than an accident moving a simple animatronic that he well knows can be triggered by the push/step of a button... I wonder how they explained Martin's death, since clearly the old boss didn't kill anyone...was Martin crazy and sent to the electric chair only thinking the wax figures attacked him, so he and we have no pov after the zurg rush? Ah well. Just me rambling. Keep up the great work, and stay hydrated, another heat dome over the tri-state area tomorrow around the high nineties, even 100 or so. Stay safe!

@@FeverDreamlandTheater I don’t mind slow. Breaking Bad often is slow but when the plot or story isn’t being advanced the screen time is filled with a lot of solid character development. Obviously it’s not fair to compare these two shows directly, but slow doesn’t necessarily mean boring or bad. Back in the 60s acting and storytelling was different so that screen time isn’t being utilized effectively, in my armchair film auteurs opinion.

The New Exhibit. I have ... mixed feelings about this one. For one thing, it's too long and we're just waiting for the wax figures to murder the supporting cast and set up where Serling was going with his intro. For another, it's just not framed very well. SPOILER ALERT.... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. If the story was setting up that MARTIN actually killed everyone, it failed since the wax figures are clearly shown committing the murders. My theory was that was the point. The wax figures DID murder everyone, and then they drove Martin crazy by telling Martin that HE was actually the murderer. It just doesn't work as it should have. And the real murderers get away with yet another crime on their records, but no one will ever know since they gave full credit to someone else. That said, it's still Martin Balsam, and he does sell the character, even if the logic of the episode falls apart long before the halfway point. It is interesting to see Balsam play the unstable murderer for a change. But, consider -- Martin Senescu is already somewhat disturbed at the start of the story, and it would have been quite appropriate if Martin had fantasized that the wax figures are protecting Martin by murdering all who threatened them. But, if they had filmed the murders keeping the wax figures obscured to lead to the suggestion that it MIGHT have been Martin, the episode might have worked better. And the episode IS too long. There are just enough characters so we can get a murder every ten minutes and have enough material to cover a 50 minute episode. But the effort to get the victims one by one into the cellar shows, and it is just too much. The episode as aired is not bad, but it would have been so much better if they had put more thought into the setup. Fun fact: Martin's wife Emma is played by Maggie Mahoney, alias Margaret Field, the mother of Sally Field. She married Jock Mahoney, stuntman and star of Yancy Derringer. Sally was born from a previous marriage.

I hear you Kali. I like your idea about showing the murders but keeping the wax figures obscured to lead to the suggestion that it might have been Martin. I agreed, the episode might have worked better that way. Or at least not felt quite as unfair in hindsight. I also wonder if maybe some quick flashes of Martin literally doing the murders at the end in place of the wax figures aslo may have worked. It still mostly worked for me, but I totally get the mixed feelings. Much thanks as always for checking in! Always a pleasure, be well!

@@FeverDreamlandTheater it's hard because this is the Twilight Zone. It's the anger and hurt that Martin portrays after confronting the figures after the murder of Mr. Ferguson that first made me think the wax figures did the killings, but I love your theory about Martin being like Norman Bates, being so warped by his obsession with the figures that he developed a split personality that would protect them and kill anyone who threatened them. A personality that would awaken, subverting Martin, and kill his wife, brother in law and his employer, then leave the scene, allowing Martin to return and have no recollection, so that when he returns to the crime scene, he believes the wax figures did the deed.
