Back the mic away from the cabinet. It has the 12" woofer, a tweeter and a mid-range speaker also. You had the mic jammed into the woofer, missing the other higher range frequencies.
I really want someone to do a stand alone review of the speaker. Probably a lot of people who already have a floor board that might want to use this. When gigging I run direct but I want something for the house and practice that sounds better than a PA speaker or studio monitors. Something voiced for guitar
Yep, I'm waiting for this too. I have a QC which I'm happy with, and use monitors with it at the mo, but I'm pretty interested in this FRFR cab to try and get a bit more of an amp "feel" in my room
Definitely it hits a good price point. I used to have a clr and that was great but don't want to spend 1200 bucks for another one. And I hate the way my headrush 1x12 sounds lol.
@@MsSpicynipplesThey say the fender fr is made of plywood...interesting since some of their amps costing twice as much use mdf, and many other modeller speakers are made of junk materials, even plastic. But if the power amp is noisy or the speaker sucks, that would be a deal breaker...all eyes are on fender in this moment, but given their recent track record I find it hard to get my hopes up
This seems pretty cool, but I am concerned about how many comments (across the internet, not just here) I've seen alledging that Fender has a history of poor post-launch support. I would like to know more about how much we can trust that this product will still exist 5-10 years from now. The cutting edge does dull quite quickly, especially in the digital effect world
Wow. I don’t even play electric and I want one! I love goofing around with my Fender Mustang headphone amp. I love the intuitive interface, and as a former leader of a largish worship team, I can see where this would simplify things for the electric guitarist, while providing a much bigger palette to play with. Nice demo!
Thanks for this video. I was hoping for a decent presentation of the Tone Master FR, but I feel like just close mic-ing the 12" cone is not representative since you are missing out on the 1" tweeter that does all the high-end. That's why your close mic-ed sounds are very muffled and dark. I would appreciate if you made another video specifically for the FR-10 or FR-12 with a microphone at least 2 or 3 feet away from the speaker so it can capture both the 12" bass driver and the 1" tweeter for a more accurate representation of the sound.
Had mine for a few weeks and really pleased with it. Great for Cleans and even better for Ambient Guitar. Already created Guitar Synth and Ambient guitar patches and video's. Best Wishes from the UK 🎶🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎😎
Idk why I’m watching this because I like the simplicity of just a few boss-sized pedals going into the front of an amp lol. Gotta say I love the big visual for the tuner n it.
Nice review of an amazing advancement in pro equipment. I’m two and a half years into working with a Mustang GTX50, so I’ve used this technology in its infancy. But, wow, how it’s grown up. Don’t fear the reaper. It’s like having an entire music store amp room in your back pocket … er … gig bag, if they get around to stitching one up.
Got one coming tomorrow with the FR12 cab. I'm excited to replace my Helix with this new UI. That laugh when you said "hahah so cool" is exactly why I can't wait to plug it in. 😊
How do you like it compared to the Helix? I'm in the market for a floorboard modeler but I keep realizing that the Helix is like 10 years old. I'm fearful that if I got one, Helix 2 comes out and I'd be pissed.
Everyone that's saying it's too expensive... Cool! It's not for everyone. You can spend the same money on an amp rig and be perfectly happy as I've done for years. Or spend a fraction on other modelers that are also great! For me, with as much traveling as i do, this is as close to the ultimate portable rig that I can take on tour and has about every feature i would want. Expensive? Yes but i think all of the R&D put into this and the amount of features makes it worth the extra money. If i only played at home, I wouldn't spend the money. For reference I'm coming from a Fractal FM3 and FC6 and I'm not looking back.
Best equipment review ever! I appreciate your honesty. I really appreciate you not trying to to play your way to convince a record company to sign you!!!! My only critique would be how I would gig this thang?!?!? All in all however, a great review that makes me interested!
Awesome Chris《☆》I never ran with the Devil either😮I do have a 2000ish Squire Strat blackout edition HSS that was sold thru George's Music👍🏾❤🎸🤳When I play it thru my Rolland Cube Street amp with a touch of Delay on the Rectify channel I can't help sounding like EVH imho. But no where near playing skills😂
didn't hear any noise floor hissing from the FR12 cab. many have reported this as an issue. I guess its luck of the draw depending on the unit you get?
Please do a follow-up on the acoustic guitar functionality that is there/is coming!!!! I’m very interested in this world, and this product is blowing up my feeds, so it is very much on my radar!
I think a Mustang GTX100 vs Tonemaster Pro video would be quite useful. They appear to be aimed at very different markets, but I am very curious to see how they compare in terms of sound.
Not even close. The GTX is really targeted at beginner market with much less tone processing power than the Tone Master line. The Tone Masters are really aimed at the pro market that NEED exact replicas of the actual tube amps.
cmon the pro is nice but its not close to the real deal tube amps...sounds a bit artificial and may get you 80% there just like my experience with kempers etc. BUT IT AINT THE REAL DEAL@@vedder10
Cool demo. Thanks for showing it off. Very intuitive interface to how my brain works. I tend to get lost in some of the other brands setups. I didn’t know they had the additional speakers avail to pair with it which is cool. This seems to be another step into the digital future for the legacy amp companies.
You are having way to much fun! Sweet piece of gear. I could sure use that in the P&W setting when trying to cover different sounds. It'd be handy in the "PIT" as well. I could basically sell my pedal board and just use that. I run a Vox AC15 for electric work and a Fender Acousticsonic for acoustic. Both with a pedal board. Kinda pricey. But it'd be a great tool. Love your vids!
You mentioned the speaker may work well with an acoustic guitar, did you or could you do a review of this speaker used as an acoustic amp, would appreciate.
Just a few days ago I asked if Chris could play some electric again and now he does it! Not sure if it's a coincidence, but regardless you are awesome and thank you!
Well I’ve watched the video in it’s entirety. It’s cool. Is it really a Tone Master product? Well my idea of the Fender Tone Master was to be digitally designed simplistic amps built to look and operate like the original amp it was designed after. I don’t think they should have used the Tone Master logo on a deep dive feature laden product as it’s only going to confuse the consumer. Just my opinion of course. I’m sure it’s a great product so I’m not knocking it. I’ve always been a Fender guy for the most part. But for the high price point I would just sooner use my Tone Master Deluxe Reverb amp and a pedal board or my Boss Katana 100 mk II. There is just too big of a risk of an expensive unit failing and being unserviceable. I worry the same about my Tone Master Deluxe amp for that reason because it wasn’t cheap either. But for those that want a high quality unit at a premium price I don’t think that the Tone Master Pro will disappoint. Thanks for the early review Chris. Great channel.
Good points. I think at this point Fender is morphing the Tone Master name in encompass their process of modeling and creating IR cabs and the products they build from that. Their language in the product talks about using their tone master process in the non-fender amps so that seems to be where it’s going.
Ya I get why fender called it tonemaster since it's the digital product line, but this and the amps aren't (imo) targeted at the same players. Calling the frfr tonemaster seems especially confusing to someone unaware of the various products looking at them in store, potentially beside the tonemaster amps.
Very cool looking. The only thing so far before even watching this video is my criticism of plastic input jacks in such a high price unit. UA audio pedals which I own and love such as the Dream 65, Ruby etc. provides the same cheaply designed input and output jacks. That’s my only criticism of the UA pedals too.
Imagine somebody accidentally unplugs an extension cord, or there's a brief power interuption during a set, and you have to wait through that boot up to resume playing. Not sure how it compares to Helix, but it's way slower than GT-1000.
I wonder if you have the newer fender mustang amp, do you need this? It seem pretty similar in most aspects. You all should do a comparison video of this and the mustang amp.
Of course and it could have the advertisement logo on it . But..... Greedy ass Fender wants the up sell on a hard case not a 100% happy customer. If they don't have a hard case for it somebody in product planning should be planning to be driving for Uber...
So I have been an "amp" guy up till now and always intrigued by all the floor modelers. Am I correct in saying the Fender offering here doesn't do capture which I always thought was ok because i don't have a collection of amps I would want "captured".... I always thought the competitors in this arena SHOULD offer a lower priced unit that excludes capture but at the same time capture is what creates the "community" around those platforms....
REally good review that covered a lot of material. The UI looks very easy to use and if the amp tones and effects are good, it should do well in the modeler market especially for newcomers to the modeling world. A decent looking/sounding FRFR amp/cab at a lower cost point was sorely missing in the FRFR marketplace. Will definitely be looking at more reviews of those. All in all a very interesting product from Fender that hopefully they will support over the years. The product seems to currently fill a gap based on its ease of use and all the port options it has. The Line 6 Helix line, which is aging now, has competition. The Quad Cortex and Fractal could also be affected by this release, although they maybe in a slightly different kind of modeler category.
It was a damned lie! That thing is literally awful compared with others in this price point! It would sound bad at 1/2 price. Don’t forget where you heard it from.
@@Davo2233 A little more context and information would help. Had not seen many actual reviews that said it sounded 'literally awful compared with othersl".
Giving a pass for it starting as an “unboxing” video, I’d say you did your viewers a bit of disservice by not at least reading the pamphlets in the box, or familiarizing yourself with the amps in question prior to recording. A few other guitars to plug in (because, you know, EVH always used a Tele) would have also given a better idea of what the unit could sound like. For example, things such as “what’s the intensity knob do?” would have been pretty obvious with a little prep. I’m sure you’ll be following up with a more in-depth view, but those of us with a dozen years on modelers like Fractal and Kemper are needing a lot of what you could provide with a little reading (as many others with advance access did). I’m not hating on it as bad as it sounds, sorry for that. I just saw a missed opportunity for you. Thanks for the info you did provide! I’m planning on giving it a try in January (new tax year for the music biz), and see if it can compare to my Fractal rig.
You can get some interesting results by doing a 100 watt marshall into an 8 inch speaker, it will yield an unusual tonal that you could not do in an actual world, it would blow out the speaker. And of course you can make a snarling monster out of a princeton, into 4x12 cabs. digital opens up a world of Amazing.
I like how nobody is saying this... if you show up to a gig and have to play next to a player with a legit tube amp and serious pedal board you are going to wanna go home.
Except for a lot of people, the case will be useless cuz they’ll add other pedals or volume and expression pedal and then that case is worthless. They’d be better off offering a really good case for cheap…and maybe a pedalboard specifically for this and like two expression pedals.
you'll be surprised at what updates are coming for this Fender Modeler. New updates coming will make the present modelers collect dust. Know this 1st hand
You are correct Never buy a first generation. Modeler , let them work out kinks and clanks , but this is a pretty good piece of equipment , I tried one out
Sounds and looks great but its too mutch expensive. For the same money i can buy a Marshall studio Silver Jub + the Marshall matching 2x12 cab + a Boss Me-90 to connect in 4cm... For mutch less money, BOSS GT-1000 does it all, and in some cases even more! Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
@@AlamoMusic Line6 and Neural managed to work out all of their bugs and kinks at their price point. Also, Fender has a history of ditching products and not supporting them after a while. So yes, I’d rather have Helix or QC at this price point instead of dealing with Fender.
hate to say but it looks like a gimmick to me, just like the spark amp but like five times more expensive and god knows i fully wasted my money on that thing. you wont get me this time you bloodsuckers!
I appreciate the video but it seems like you put being first (or one of the first) over.... a quality video that epitomizes the goal of a review: To give the potential buyer all the info he needs before forking over a lot of hard earned cash. Quality > speed. RTFM
