This new guitar brand has been gaining popularity on Amazon. It's affordable, it's got coil splitting, stainless steel frets, smooth tuners, and a beautiful blue burst finish... and the name: Boya and Ziqi. It just rolls off the tongue. Honestly, I don't even know if I'm saying it correctly. What does this name actually mean? And is this a good guitar? Let's find out.

Unless you are using a Tele single coils and then grab a Paul with PAF's in a clean type of soft sound or a Twangy type sound... In , case it goes from a 99% of ya sound to like a 60 or 70 % of ya sound. The quality of the guitar electrics is light years ahead of what it used to be. It seems that now, the only difference in a cheap guitar and expensive one is the quality of workmanship on the body and fret board. They are really close in sound quality. I bet you're wondering: why are our brand's called this? Who are they?Yes, our brand name comes from a story that is very famous in China. During the Spring and Autumn Period in China(2000 years ago),there was a musician who was good at playing the Guqin, named Yu Boya. One day, on a boat trip, Boya played a tune he had composed before he became famous, but unfortunately no one could understand it, which expressed the lofty mountains and flowing water. At that moment a woodcutter passing by on the shore listened to it and said exactly what the tune meant. Boya said excitedly:"You're the one who truly understands my music!"and this woodcutter was Zhong Ziqi. They talked about music very happily and agreed to visit Ziqi again when Boya returned from his trip.When Boya came back, he had already passed away due to illness. Boya was so sad that he broke his Guqin in front of Ziqi's tomb. After that, he never played the Guqin again. We use the brand name to pay tribute this precious friendship,and we hope to convey this musical friendship with guitars. Know what you want and do what you need, become your musical confidant.

I like how the 22nd fret butts up against the neck pickup like a 70s/80s SG. I like that better than current (and original) SGs where there's a gap between them. It puts the pickups further apart like a Les Paul and also limits some of the neck dive by making it a little shorter. I'll have to check these out!

I was very happily surprised at the tones. The neck pup was rich and warm, while the bridge had all the punch you could ask for. As for the frets, I like this style over rounded fret ends. Probably just because of my playing style, I find rounded frets to easy to drop to off the edge on a downward bend of the high E string. This kind gives you a slightly larger playing area... just my preference.... Seems like a fantastic axe for the price!

The thing I don't like about this guitar (or similar ones) is that they use push-pull pots with the top hat style knobs. Speed knobs are so much easier to pull up, and those hat styles are so difficult. Maybe this guitar is different (I don't have it in my hands to test), but I upgraded a cheap Les Paul style guitar to push pulls and immediately regretted leaving those knobs on it. Otherwise, no complaints. Looks good, sounds good, decent price.

The clean sound on the single coil mode is because it isn't single coil but a series to parallel switch. To check this measure the dc resistance output which will show something like 9k to 12k ohms. Single mode coil would measure something like 4.5 to 6k but parallel would show approx 2.25 to 3.00 . Nothing new as Seymour Duncan 's schematics show the wiring. You could also just look at the switch wiring To see how it is achieved ! The advantage of the series/ parallel switching you can already hear !

I wouldn't go near any of these cheaper guitars that Max advertises. Sure, they look and sound great when he presents and plays them, because they make sure to send him a perfect guitar. There’s real gems out there at $300 I bought a Mitchell HSH with 5 way and a Floyd rose double lock and with a perfect neck that played great and gutted it, I put in pearly gates bridge, petrucci neck and hot stack middle position bout push pulls for the humbuckers and copper sheilded all cavities and bought a better 5 way also added orange capacitor and it had a low string action and I lowered further with zero fret buzz I played every guitar at Sweetwater sound some in the 3-$5000 dollar range but none compared to the Mitchell I can make it sound like a strat, a Les Paul and it makes such clean warm tones or can make it rock with that crunch or it can sing with great sustain so never underestimate a $300 dollar guitar

As with every electric guitar, I'm interested in knowing how the neck on this one compares to Gibson's 60's slim taper neck.
@restojon1
@restojon1 Год назад
The early SG's had such a comfortable neck. It wasn't especially small or thin, but somehow it just felt great. I had 2, long time ago now, but I think the first one was either a 61 or 64 with the vase on the headstock and then I moved that on for a 74. That then made way for a late 60's Firebird. All of these came to me cheap because of snapped headstocks.
@bryansimmons4550
@bryansimmons4550 Год назад
@@restojon1 Thanks. I owned 2 '62 SG Specials and one '65 SG Special, and they all had great necks. My Y2K Gibson Les Paul Classic has that great neck, and does my 2006 Gibson SG Supreme. None of them have had any broken neck issues. I have a Firefly FF338 that believe it or not, has that same slim taper profile, so it CAN be done on inexpensive guitars.

Nice Vid and like your opinion on frets. i bought a Gibson Acoustic a year ago put new strings on it and put about 20 hours on it and just got too lazy to set it up as i've got other acoustics that sound just as good, even lower priced models. i'm not whining and know guitars need a setup, but I'm very disappointed in Gibson for the craftsmanship. it's uncool to throw out other manu names, but i like handmade acoustics at 1/2 the price that come from Canada I also have a Gibson Gospel that plays awesome, but it's a Jumbo and not a guitar i can just leave on a stand that i can pickup on a whim and bang out a song. And yeah, i play elec too, but i gigged in the 80's and did 70's cover band up until 2014 and just don't crank up the Amps as often. Your vids are invaluable to teach up and coming guitarists that ability is more important than equipment. And yeah, i had a Gibson Marauder when i was 14 and stupidly traded in my Lawsuit Univox LP Copy when I was learning to play Smoke on the Water. I'm a Geezer and wish i had info like this back in the 70's. Keep helping the up and coming Guitar Players and even us who played for 40 years. "traditional fret ends are better than rounded frets (eart) because they're easier and cheaper for us to install, plus!... with humidity changes they allow you to slice your hands!" The Eart approach (rounded) is superior because the fret end in slightly inside the fretboard edge eliminating the possibilty of fret sprout developing later.
