Really stoked for ya'll to watch this one! Ridin' the new jumpline Sinter and the newish trail Drawpoint.
J Girl and I spent a weekend at Cuyuna by Crosby, MN recently and stayed in a safari tent at Cuyuna Cove which was really cool.
We started off our Saturday ride with Drawpoint on our way up to the newest trails. It started to rain a bit on Drawpoint and by the time we got up to Sinter it was raining pretty hard. So we just took it easy down Sinter and scoped it out with the intensions of riding it the next day, which we did! The dirt was pretty tacky and made the trail feel a little slow but I was still able to ride it all, just with a little extra effort to clean the jumps versus if it was fast and dry.
Both Drawpoint and Sinter are rated black diamonds but only Sinter can I see that rating being warranted. Drawpoint has a couple steeper rock rolls but are straight and short. It also has some smaller tables for jumps so I just don't see why it would be anything but blue especially since Sinter is just up the road also with a black rating. I had heard some good reviews of Drawpoint but I thought it was just a lot of pedaling for some short lived downs. There was some fun stuff but I wasn't that impressed with it. I guess I'm just not a fan of feeling like the pedal wasn't worth it, ya know? There is fun stuff on the trail like I said though.
Sinter is a pretty crazy trail. The jumps are decently big but it's more that the lips are basically all just huge booters. It's like coming up to a wall on some of them and because it kicks you so much up in the air it's kinda hard to clear some of them. I think it's a pretty sick trail but at the same time it doesn't totally make sense to me with how crazy the lips are and I didn't feel like it all flowed together like a jumpline should. I was really pumping hard and pedaling a lot to clean the entire trail. And I hate pedaling on a jumpline. Like I said before, that probably has something to do with the slower riding conditions but I don't think it would all flow together still if it was fast. I had fun on the trail for sure though and it's pretty rad they have a trail like that now so I'm not trying to bash it, just saying what I actually think of it. It's also pretty weird to have a tech climb to get to a jumpline but that's probably more of a design issue. Just my thoughts.
Rock Solid built these trails along with basically everything else at Cuyuna. I think it would be nice to get some different trail flavor in there as all of their trail just seems the same to me, just in different sizes. Looks super good but doesn't always ride the best. Anyone else think the same? I would still rather just go the extra hour to Tioga, it's still a lot better riding there in my opinion.
I do want to get back up there and check out Sledgehammer still. That first day it was way to wet to ride it and just ran out of time the next day. Sledgehammer is the double black tech trail in the same zone as Sinter. Most people that I talked to about it said they walked a lot of it so I don't know if that says more about the riders or the trail haha. Maybe it is an actual double black, I'd like to find out.
Send it!

12:50 - Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking before J-Girl said it (except with some f-bombs in there). If Ridin' Dirt can barely clear something, 98% of MN riders are gonna need an e-bike to clear it.

Hell yeah dude, have fun! Rating aside, I just don’t really see what’s so fun about Drawpoint. I just felt like I pedaled a lot for some short lived downs that were fine. Maybe I should ride it again or something because a lot of people seem to love it and I just don’t really get it I guess. Maybe it’s me

Ride it on a 29er Cross Country Race bike while clipped in next time for more speed! 😂 If you had to go all out to clear those, nobody else is cleaning that trail top to bottom, hopefully it was just wet or maybe the new trail is still getting packed in. Looks like a fun trail, looking forward to Sledgehammer too!

@@ridindirt I agree it's not really a black trail, but session it for a while and more options appear everywhere. All of Cayuna is sick though.
@ridindirt
@ridindirt 3 года назад
@@jasonlarson2487 I think I should ride it again because seems like people love it and I don’t really see why. I thought it was fun but nothing special. Has nothing to do with the trail rating either. There’s green trail that I think is super fun, like Greenway Rough Rider at Tioga is green and that trail rips! I just felt like I pedaled a lot for some short lived descents I guess. I’m also not on the Cuyuna bandwagon though. I enjoy The riding there but it’s not at all my favorite place to ride in MN. It’s super cool that so many people love that place though! I remember going there like 10 years ago and it’s pretty wild how much it’s evolved in such a short time.
@72SeaHag
@72SeaHag 3 года назад
@@ridindirt Like you, I've never been super fond of the riding in Cuyuna; as it has been too easy other than a cardio workout. With all the new stuff though, I was planning to head up this Friday and check out what's new in the past four years, since I last made my way up there. But your commentary has me rethinking another day spent at Cuyuna. I haven't yet had the pleasure of Tioga; which you claim rewards your pedaling more... So I may "just drive the extra hour" like you mentioned. If I do Tioga, what are the must do trails? I like jumping and tech too.
@ridindirt
@ridindirt 3 года назад
@@72SeaHag Tioga is designed more like a bike park in which you pedal up and pick your trail down. The trail signs also tell you which trails are DH flow trails which is cool! Greenway Rough Rider is a super fun green trail. Thrillseeker is pretty much everyone’s favorite. Flying Carp Eh Diem, Whitepine Wonder and Rukavina’s Revenge are all good. Bloodstone is an ass kicker but has good stuff in it. Then there’s Minneflowta and Hockey Hair on the other side of the parking lot which is a must. I guess the XC stuff there is pretty fun too but I’ve never ridden any of it. I have a Tioga playlist if you care to checkout my videos of the place.
@Dialed1
@Dialed1 3 года назад
Yea bro, it’s an energy zapper. It’s not a DH trail you can drop in on and clean. Definitely requires allot of peddle effort. And that last table I’ve micro washed on that left hander coming into it so that one has been the most challenging one for me, haven’t properly cleaned that particular table, got the rest of it dialed. Now need to add that R.D. steeze..🔥🔥
@ridindirt
@ridindirt 3 года назад
For sure man. That last step up is tough. The berm before it is too mellow. I was worried about washing out too.
