I'm a sucker for a burnt orange dial. Just haven't got one yet ! Nice to see you two work together and comment in each other's productions. I am a big fan Shane and Dave.
I’ve learned to look forward to Dave’s new videos and found I like his taste (and budget limitations). It’s also interesting how he and Shane often basically do the same watch, but in different video styles and different colorways. Keep it up!
I'm not a watch guy but i've been sort of lurking in various watch channels these past few months and have gained an appreciation for the craft. I decided on a Citizen diver BNO151-09L eco-drive blue variant which perfectly fits my no fuss, highly utilitarian yet beautiful timepiece that sits between $150 to $300 budget. No luck finding it in the color I want. I finally bought the other best thing, a Casio G-5600UE-1, which I think is the most value for money G-shock with tough solar without the bells and whistles like multi-band etc. which i don't really need. Stuck a metal bumper on that thing and i'm rocking the 90s once again. I never wanted an automatic due to the price and mainly the fuss of caring for one. This JDM Orient with the orange and grey bezel did it for me. I never knew I can be so attracted to a color way. This is a testament to your skills as a videographer. I've seen photos of the Orange Diver: RN-AA0817Y but none of them renders the colors the way you made them pop in your video. I've decided that this Orient will be my one and only (maybe) automatic. Since it's a JDM, good luck to me on finding one. But if I do chance upon it in the wild, my card is getting swiped. Thanks for being the first and only channel (as of now) to feature this watch. More power and God bless.
Asked Orient USA when these new Makos will be available in the States, but all they would say in response was “stay tuned”… really like the Orient mako solar chrono with the panda dial (RA-TX0203S). Great looking watches.
Like the handset, love the 'pumpkin pie' dial color, the rest is just ok. Thanks for showing us some alternative straps - your examples looked like a great match with the watch.
You're spot on about the bezel. I can understand the orange secondhand because of the color scheme but a lumed diamond tip would have been cool. Both? Anyway it is a strap monster. Even with my frkn smaller wrist I'll be waiting for the price drop. 👍
I prefer the original Kamasu (green dial version) with rectangular applied indices, and the second hand that is red. That version is so different than anything else out there at that price point, and really stands out!!!
Love my Kamasu 2 with round indices and gradient dial. When prices come down, definitely picking up the white dial version of this one. Thanks for the great review.
Love the JDM colorway ... I liked the burnt orange Zelos recently came out with ... the dial layout also reminds me a lot of the Longine Hydroconquest.
That grey dial version looks stunning, I was about to buy a tissot seastar with the grey dial, but now I'm going to get the grey dial mako for less than half the price of the tissot
I put a Strapcode beads of rice on my Kamasu and it works great. It is tapered with a rather meaty clasp that balances out the weight of the watch head.
Tempted by the Champaign dial “Ivory” version. I have a rule that I set myself that I’ll only buy Casio, so I don’t go too deep down the rabbit hole, but the Mako 3 has me closer than anything else so far. The Bambino Small Seconds is the other closest, but with the superfluous date window and the unusual 21mm lug width, it’s a lot easier to resist. This could share a lot of 3rd party straps with my Duros and slide rule chronographs.
I have 2 Kamasus and a Mako. Only gripe (but really annoying) is that they only have about 1-1/4 thread that catch on the screw-down and its a p.i.t.a. to catch it. This burnt orange is my favorite color. Loving this dial. May just have to justify another Orient by putting this one on a jubilee.
this warm gradient orange dial is such a beauty not fair only Japan gets it lol I would take it even with the Japanese character day. Gives it a lot of character
I'm not sure how many people consider the Mako II USA and actual Mako II, but it does in fact have a lumed second hand. I know, because I just looked at my wrist.
Here's a good idea, why not have a series on your channel focusing only on jdm watches, this will definitely help those planning to go to japan and buy something special 😁
Love the color, design seen already. Nice diver watch a beginner. What bothers me is that Casio Duro makes better Basel than these pricier watches. Great channel! May you please review more Swiss and some American watch brands. Much love, Milan
Reminds me of the considerably more expensive Longines Conquest. I like it, but the hands getting wider towards the tip is giving me issues. Pretty unbeatable at that price.
Less than a month after I received my Blue Ray2 I replaced the crystal with a sapphire. Orient should do this for the Ray2 as well. In my humble opinion it was a better watch than the Mako 2.
I do love orients but hollow end links at this price is unacceptable when there’s micro brands offering sapphire, ceramic inserts, and solid links for around £150. I get that they’re outgoings and overheads will be different but still. Im still gonna pull the trigger on the green triton this week though
Interesting they seem to have used the 'classic' Kamasu crown in this limited edition, whereas the crown on the standard releases has sharper teeth and is very easy to grip and operate compared to the older Kamasu one. 🤷🏻♂️
Hello, well firstly I would like to say that Orient is the people's watch defenitely! Secondly, in my humble beginner opinion, it is a watch wich for this increased price should features a solid end-link with its case. This stainless steel strap is good for a 150-200$ price range watch. But now this is a new price level. Please ladies and gentlemen of Orient, I humbly ask for your consideration. Thank you Dave, as always your job has been well done. Saludos!
That was one of the improvements that the Mako USA had when they brought it out (way back when), but unfortunately, it never made it to the Kamasu or this one.
I think both Orient and Seiko are both excellent. Also Casio is nothing to sneeze at either. Why should one spend more on watches that don’t work any better or last any longer.
Just seems odd they have not improved the crown it’s the only thing that lets my Kamasu green sunburst down sometimes it’s very difficult to engage I’ve had it from new and always been the same
I struggle with this channel... my intro was watching a subscriber request for the SEIKO turtle or whatever where he basically bagged it out because he knows best.. then four weeks of schilling AliExpress and such...
The paradox is that the original Kamasu (RA/RN-AA000...) is still more affordable and... functional than anything from the AA08 lineup (including this one and that one dubbed "Kamasu 2" for some reason), despite having the same movement and materials. Because AA00 has better lume, fully marked bezel and - most importantly - minute and second hands that actually reach their minute/second markers. Like, despite being mechanical, it still has everything aimed at efficient time measurement under any conditions. In these AA08 models though, they had sacrificed some bits of practicality purely for the sake of design and, on top of that, are charging more for this kind of downgrade. That being said, I'd love to see something like AA0819N, but smaller in size (so that the hands actually reach the markers) and out of titanium, which would make it lighter and match the overall dial color. That is something I wouldn't hesitate to buy for sure.
How is it possible that a 70$ watch from the Chinese has sapphire and water resistance, but watches like Orient or Seiko sell watches from 200$ upwards with mineral crystal, and the hardlex is a lie it is just as sensitive.
I have the Kamasu and don't have a issue with the bracelet. I think reviewers want people to buy a strap code bracelet. When I got my Kamasu they wanted the same amount I paid for the watch for a bracelet ? 👎😂
