You're so right about the bounce and grinds putting people off wedges. I kind of get it, but what bounce I need is going to change depending on the ground conditions, lie, type of shot I need to play, my swing type, etc. Just give me a "medium"!

As someone who used to rust his 900 and reg 588 Cleveland's. Dont leave it in a bucket. Make it moist and let it dry repeatedly. Put it outside overnight and let to dew morning do the work

definitely get some baseline numbers then hit those same wedges once they rust to compare launch and spin.

James, you hit a great point in this video...make it simple. I switched to the cobra Max so that there is no adjustable weights...my 3 and 5 wood are 15 and 19 degrees with no adjustability, and my wedges are Lazr and standard bounce

I just bought the TM MG2 56 dgreee standard bounce chrome wedge. Hit some practice shots with it and enjoyed it. Love the look and feel of it . Will play 18 holes later today and see how they are in the fairway and around the green. Good review James. Cheers mate.

I didn't spend too much on my wedges. Picked up older 52, 56 and a 60 TM Z spin, and they all are great. Awesome control.

If you guys are in the market for wedges definitely consider the Wilson Fg tour PMP wedges. They're fantastic and are priced extremely well. I absolutely love mine.

Hoping they come out with an even lower bounce option. 8 is still a bit high for me on a lob wedge I need to play off tight lies. Just got a full set of vokey custom shop raw wedges though.

So how do they compare to the Hi Toe Big Foot wedge that was reviewed a couple of days ago?

You could just dip/spray with vinegar. I do look forward to seeing the rusty wedges.

I love the back of those I usually have to put some lead tape on the back of my wedges to help with flighting them down. Especially milled face. Well wedged last me 6 months so on to these next maybe?

Just buy the ping glide 3 wedges spin like crazy best wedge out there for me at the moment and that is coming from a callaway stalwart 👌

The rust doesn’t improve spin, it will actually reduce it. The raw face is rougher because there is no barrier to prevent the rusting. The structure of the metal is much more rigid and flexes even less than the standard steel face. When the rust forms, bits of it come off with the impact of the ball. Just think of it as a micro bunker layer between the face and the ball.

Not a fan of clubs rusting, probably the OCD traits in me😀 I’ll stick with my Vokey SM7 wedges!

Ehhh...have you seen the water test in the new Ping Glide 3.0. Amazing spin numbers with wet ball and face.

Not for me, am so disappointed as I have the TM MG wedges in 54 & 58 and was gonna get the 50 when I saw the MG2 was coming out but I hate the rusted look so will need to look elsewhere. 😕

Love the black look, but will it last? the original TM grind was a forgotten club (everyone wanted the named wedges such as Vokeys) , yet I thought it was excellent, second only to the Mizuno's I bought. TM milled just felt a little heavier than other wedges, and that was definitely a good thing in my mind. Not ready for new wedges yet but maybe next year, TM MG2 will be on my list

What about the Wilson FG Tour raw wedge. Love it. Looks really unique and I feel it provides a little more spin, at least it feels like it and it does check up quicker than my new 56* vokey.

Sorry, I just don't get this rusty Wedge BS. So I am supposed to spend £150 on a Wedge and then be delighted that it is rusting (to gain an extra 500RPM)? That might be ok for Tour Pros that don't pay for their Clubs anyway, but back in the real world, I want shining brand new, not brand new and rusting! Give me the PING Glide 3 with it's Hydro Pearl finish that gives me substantially more spin in wet conditions (let's face it that's most days in Manchester) and best of all they don't oxidise (rust).

It`s a bit like - a watched kettle never boils- a watched wedge never rusts lol .Some of these names are getting a bit long though- hard to remember.

If your car is rusting James, it just means it will get more spin.

If you want metal to rust quick you should wet and then air dry in the sun and repeat as many times you can.

Do they feel softer than the previous version? FYI-Fastest way to get rust is to leave them in a jar of coca-cola for 12-24hours then take out

8 parts hydrogen peroxide 1 part distilled vinegar and half tablespoon salt sprayed on club then watch them rust fast

I just don't get the appeal of raw wedges. First I think the rust looks awful but doesn't it also affect the spin? Maybe you should do a test to compare a new raw wedge to one that has been allowed to rust.

How about go get fit for wedges... if you’re “walking into a pro shop” buying wedges you’re doing it wrong. Pretty simple after that! (Shaft,length,lie,bounce,loft,swing weight)

Good looking wedges, but what's your big love with rusty wedges? Don't think I have seen one credible study w/launch monitor results verifying more spin created by a rusty wedge. All I ever get are dirty golf balls, and a dirty club face. Why don't you do a launch monitor testing so we can actually see if there is more spin. My guess is no.

is the standard bounce more of a full grind for square shots and the low bounce has heel/toe relief to open the face on tight lights / hard packed sand? how does the standard (higher bounce) wedge perform if you are in soft sand and want to open the face but theres no heel relief?

You can get the rust in hours with some salt spray, heat and oxygen

So are they onley good for a season of golf due to the rust?here in the states its always wet and in the winter months well no golf,if i buy these are they going to be junk by next spring?

Not sure why rusty is better than normal - maybe when they get rusty you should do a compare with a no rust version

Hmmmmm................Doesn't rust add an uneven layer of metal deposits on the face and in the grooves? Convince me otherwise!

So TaylorMade introduces new wedges the get rusty?? How can they legal?? I have Cleveland wedges with “Zip Grooves’ and I’m not sure they would legal for use in any tournaments. Many of us the have been around golf for 50+ years have been trying to keep rust off our club faces and steel shafts. Just saying!!

Hate the rusted look puts me off as soon as clubs look old and tatty. Just purchased the ping glide 3 ss bounce in 52, 56 and 60 and they spin like crazy. Ping have raised the bar in my opinion and that's coming from a callaway club player 👌

Personally I think that rusty golf clubs are ridiculous. I don’t believe they’ll give more spin over time/more rust. I like my clubs nice and clean everytime I hit them.

Oxygenate?...you mean oxidise. If you want to rust these quickly use hydrogen peroxide.......2Fe (iron) + 3H2O2 (peroxide) ---> Fe2O3 (rust) + 3H2O (water)

For the life of me I cannot comprehend the infatuation with rusty clubfaces. What good can come from it? Then you like it only on your wedges but not on your lovely like MB or whatever irons? That would make even less sense. Rust lovers should rejoice because ebay is full of nice irons which were badly maintained and corroded. In my opinion rust is a defect. What I do like from TM is that they do not offer a ton of grind options like Vokey's. To a pro having the choice might offer some benefit but the normal golfer is confused, myself included. I have 2 Mizuno wedges, one in 50-07 and one in 56-14. The 56 is great from bunkers with sand in it, otherwise it's usability is a bit limited as the bounce can be too much off the turf.
