Your vids are goated my guy! And most definitely, as somebody who actually studied physiology, he's wrong about so many basics, especially insulin function and how carbohydrates are actually used and digested.
That sums up general population pretty well. You can feed any information to average joe and they will think it's sound advice as long as the tone is non deleterious.
only points i really agree with him is regarding that we dont need any supplements and stuff like protein powder protein bars pre workouts energy drinks etc arent good for you
@@uberneanderthalFrom an educational background, Greg doesn't have much of a better standpoint, but at least he cites his research, which makes him more credible.
The best way to explain this is taking advantage of people’s shiny object syndrome. People will always be on the lookout for the next shiny thing, no matter whether its actually good for you.
Absolutely, especially for fitness influencers. Fitness is difficult and everyone is looking for a shortcut so what rises to the top of algorithms isn’t consistency and calorie deficits, it’s wackjobs claiming some diet, supplement, or ingredient is either a biological loophole or poison.
@@noonedream9333exactly. The best shiny thing is that you have to work hard with your muscles, use proper technique, spend at least 3 days working on them + right diet with enough carbs and protein + daily cardio (walking, running, bicycle). No other shiny thing will replace this old shiny thing that works. I mean, you want great body, go and look how natty bodybulders and fitness people train and eat.

@vahlen5281 I don't believe I've consumed enough of his content to have an opinion about what he says specifically. I agree that you one should be able to offer a point from which to start researching a subject if the claims are extraordinary. I was only speaking to the original post, which isn't nuanced like yours.
As someone with Crohn's disease, and who fell for one of these ridiculous diet grifters- coaches, I thank you. For me, pharmaceuticals brought back my quality of life. It's honestly offensive to claim merely fixing one's diet will cure a bloody auto immune disease.
Over the past year I’ve seen this dude go from a couple hundred thousand followers to over 3 million on instagram. Just completely from coming across his account randomly through reels. It’s just so shocking people believe this shit so easily.

I think he really should've stuck to highlighting the additives in modern day food like guar gum, meladextrine or whatever else. That type of stuff makes no sense to be in our food, and i doubt we've enough studies informing us of the long term effects of them. I would've appreciated if he went to call out co-op's, "bakery" foods. Something as basic as donuts and apple pie has a whole paragraph of ingredients, most being additives. That's what he should've focused on, instead he gets mad at a woman for eating a bagel from the lidl bakery, which compared to co-op, is actually fresh.
Most definitely! There's very few human studies on the matter. Virtually everything is taken from rodents, and in superhuman dosages, so they don't relate well to humans. Would love to see some long format prospective studies on humans💪
@@BackGuy idk, I think he shot himself in the foot a bit by steering away from just calling out ultra processed foods and hydrogenated oils to now saying how all carbs are bad for you, calories doesn't matter, other ridiculous things like carnivore diet cures depressions and IBS, etc... Do your own research= "I have no clue what the hell I'm talking about, so I'll send you on a scavenger hunt that you won't bother with... I hope." And he thinks that kind of "research", aka googling and cherrypicking studies (bonus for avoiding human metastudies and focusing on specific mechanisms in animal studies that fit the narrative), is better than the actual real world research done by highly qualified scientists.

Thx, currently bulking so i can get back to my strength level before my back injury and i am planning for a cut by the new year so i'm trying to make a good plan for it
If all carbohydrates are the same then nobody would have metabolic diseases but if carbohydrates are so bad, why would my body turn any excess protein in the excess fat into glycogen, especially taking some of that from my muscles or stored fat. My liver was Designed to do the right thing for my human function
Metabolic disease is more complicated than just diet. In my opinion, the primary driver is obesity and caloric intake. For instance, it is virtually impossible to have a high cholesterol while actively losing weight, regardless of dietary cholesterol intake. Dietary cholesterol outside of a caloric deficit does actually increase serum cholesterol (unless it is so high that it won’t go any higher). This distinction where people get the egg debate wrong and there is decades of research that is consistent with this. Metabolic disease like diabetes is also closely linked to obesity since adipose tissue modulates insulin production and usage. It is the most sensitive tissue to insulin and the larger your adipose gets, the worse your metabolic profile becomes. This problem becomes exponentially worse as adipose begins to wreck your hormonal profile with excess estrogen and decreased testosterone. People are debating these minor differences like diets, sugar, etc., when the biggest solution and lowest hanging fruit is and always has been to be at a healthy weight, strength training to increase muscle mass, and some amount of aerobic exercise. You can mess with milligrams of fats or sugars but it is almost pointless.
@@ExternusArmy Well metabolic diseases are certainly driven by the kinds of food you consume as well as your bodies ability to process it or not process it comma but If your mother didn't affect your gut microbiome and then negative way and they didn't choose unwisely throughout your infancy until Teenage years, then anything you end up led to in the future would be from your own bad choices. In many ways they are certainly related, they influence each other but if you did have a bad start then you would certainly need to correct that metabolic disease because it's going to affect your caloric output because if you aren't building muscles that will eat up every nutrient you consume and burn off anything stored, then that's a great place to start to fix your metabolism and your gut

Extremely good video! I love the fact you included actual research. I’m shocked people actually think this guy is insightful with all the existing research that is already around.
I support his basic preaching of eating real whole foods rather than processed food but also thinks that his preaching should end there rather than going into science he doesnt know and spreading misinformation.
As someone who has worked with medical professionals, I can say from experience that not every certified nurse knows about proper nutrition. You get dudes like Edi Abu who can spew a bunch of broscience and come across as knowledgeable because he has muscles. I buy health and nutrition books like The Abs Diet and various publications from The Mayo Clinic and other well-reputed sources, and I managed to build a balanced diet for myself, rich in lean proteins (chicken, fish, eggs) and leafy greens, and I restrict any fast food that I order, limiting it to trusted Latin restaurants that offer long grain and brown rice as well as quinoa. I also allow myself a minor cheat dessert once or twice a week. I mostly drink water and tea, with occasional decaf mushroom coffee. I’ve lost 17 lbs in 2 months, and I feel great. Proper nutrition education, not broscience from RU-vid reels or TikTok vids, makes a big difference.
If carbs are bad, isotonic hydration would have disappeared a long time ago since they contain a lot of glucose. But most athletics still consume a fair amount of them throughout their career. Ultimately, calories in, calories out. People who suffer from mild insulin insensitivity are in fact better off losing weight normally as that fixes the issue. And you don't need to go extreme vegan or extreme carnivore to do that.
@@BackGuy it is deeper than just calories and micronutrients. There are ways our bodies respond to the stuff that is put into these products that hasn’t been adequately studied. This is why the appeal to tradition applies. One thing the US gov/regulatory system has proven time and time again, is that they dont do enough to protect the citizens from corporations. This is more of an american issue with american products and i believe the European union has banned a lot of compounds that are prevalent in american supermarkets
After living in a world filled with fitness influencers, christians, crystal karens and conspiracy theorists, i think i suddenly understand why our teachers and professors stressed the fact that "it doesnt matter what you think you know, its HOW you know that its actually TRUE that counts"
Saw this guy once talk complete smack about shop bread and told everyone to go get fresh one at a bakery everyday. Let me just eat my sandwich in peace.
The best weight loss diet I've ever tried is almost dying from health complications. Lost 20 pounds in less than two weeks and three months later still haven't put the weight back on. 10/10 would shit and vomit blood again.
Hey back guy i wanted to ask you where are those shorts about ,,Old Fitness videos hit different'' I really was looking and searching for them.I think cause of copyright music eh ?
I used to think sugar was bad until I realised that all carbohydrates are broken down into glucose by the body (hence "blood sugar"). There is literally nothing wrong with sugar itself. There is only the differences in the packaging that the sugar comes in - e.g. more or less micronutrients, fibre, etc etc - and the amount you consume. This alone (+ maybe whether or not you're diabetic) is what determines whether sugar is healthy or not for you at any given time. Carbohydrates (sugars) are also insanely anabolic.
I don’t think I’ve got a vitamin B12 deficiency… the second monster of the day says it’s got 490% the daily value, so I’m up on 980% my daily value of B12 😂
I wanted to lose weight about 2 years ago coz I basically lt myself go suring the pandemic. I bumped into Dr. Berg's vid and was introduced to keto. I followed his stuff and I actually lost 17kg in about 3-4 months. That convinced me keto was the only truth. But the it turned out that the reason I lose that weight was because I tracked my cals and was on a constant cal deficit. Now I am back to my balanced diet, watching my cals and I've had no problems since the switch from keto. I think the reasons why these diets are so popular is that there is a degree of truth on the surface, like eating whole foods, staying away from calorie-dense and ultra processed food etc. Since these general theories work, it leads people to then believe in those non-accurate claims too. Just like how I thought keto was the one and only.
I've never heard of the guy in the video, and I don't really like the way he presents his opinions. I do however agree with most of what he has to say. I've been eating similarly to what he suggests (carnivore) on and off for about a year. I have lost 50 lbs, have more energy, feel better physically and mentally, and my blood pressure is now normal. I am 33, 6'1" and around 190lbs. I havent felt this good since I was a teenager. I'm not saying its for everyone, but it works for me. If you do want to "do your own fucking research", Doctor Ken Barry and Doctor Sten Ekberg are experts on the subject.
Dawg, everything is processed. That does not mean it is inherently bad. The meat you buy is processed, the fruit's and veggies have to go through a process to ensure good quality and is 'safe to eat'. People like to throw around the word "process" because it makes them sound educated. Most of the people on social media are trying to sell you something; 99% of it you will not need.
@@Ruben9 Fruit and vegetables have pesticides and fertilisers put on them. Are blanched, washed, often covered with a preservative coating (e.g. apples have a thin layer of wax). The act of processing is doing anything to get it to its edible form. Processed food is bad because of its high calorie and low micronutrient content. We have people eating 4000 calories a day and Eddie is telling them to worry about some preservatives. No, it's the extreme excess calories, lack of exercise and sleep that's killing people. Not some fucking aspartame in your coke. Eddie waffles 24/7 about how processed food ruins your gut health. His gut health was ruined from using a ton of oral steroids with ruin your gut, not from having rice crispies.
Another reason why losing weight quickly leads to gaining weight faster overtime is because the body can only take a limited amount of energy from fat per week. If your caloric deficit is too great it will also burn muscle mass. Long term this loss of muscle mass will reduce your daily maintenance need of calories and you will accrue more excess calories with the same diet. I really like the advice you give on this video, and the whole review is a good way to get people to think and try and "make their own effing research" lol
How can anyone argue with Eddie? His argument is EAT REAL FOODS/ SINGLE INGREDIENT FOODS. Vegetables will kill you. Follow 90% carnivore diet. Rest 10% of any fruits chocolates and cookies if you want
Agreed. I don't go off only on what Eddie says. But there is people that preach the same and bring the research. Seed oils and plant defense chemicals cause inflammation, a lot of produced foods also cause inflammation and make you insulin resistant, gluten also have inflammatory effects and are not discussed as much because scientist just says they are harmless (yet people suffer from auto-immume disease because of it). Now i don't think fruit is bad like some others think. I overal keep it very simple, can it directly be found in nature? Then it's way way better than produced. From there on you look at what you should eat from nature, and i would say remove veggies, grains and certain types of meat from your diet. With certain types of meat i mean fish with heavy metal and microplastic build up, and other animals that don't eat what they should eat or live in toxic environments.
Are you asking because you want to do it too, or because you want plans?❤️ Either way I have an app where I send out plans to clients, filled with reps, sets, exercise selection, cues, RPE and rest times, and how they're supposed to change over time to implement progressive overload. when he says that what he's trying to preach is all stuff he learned while training... implying that he heard something in like the 90s, believed it, and has just been rolling with it for decades now despite the science constantly evolving... as science tends to do. i think that's why he says to do your own research so much when people question him, because he does not remember where he got the original information from lmao
