The 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro is a powerful laptop, but just how powerful is it? In this video I put it to the test - with a 6K BRAW h.265 render in DaVinci Resolve, a multi-core CPU benchmark in Cinebench, a full Blender render, multi-tasking on Safari and watching multiple streams of 4K videos.

Just got this thing today and I CAN NOT wait for it to come in about 2 months!! I completly maxed the s%*t out of everything from the size, CPU, GPU, RAM, AND the storage as it was crazy to conclude that this level of performance and flexibility that this Mac offers will be far more than enough that I will ever need again for my work! Even though my workload may not even be close to needing or maxing out the threshold and performance of this Mac, I look at it from the angel that this computer will forever have the extensive flexibility and performance that I need to be able to continually work with speed, fluidity, multitasking, and ease without worrying about my computer ever being overworked or lagging! I've also never had a 64gb ram or 8tb of storage on a computer (only 8gb RAM and up too 500GB of storage) and some people may argue that to be too much and hard to justify, but I for one will always be looking forward to working with complete and utter assurance that my computer will have the freedom and performance capabilities it needs for me to work in complete and utter peace of mind all the time:) I know that Apple will always be making better computers down the road and some people may like or need to get those new computers when they come, but for me it was well worth maxing it out as this Mac is offers flexibility and performance that will serve me at least for the rest of my work life :) Thank you Apple 🍎

Would the screen be affected by the heat pumping into it ? Also I saw other videos that stress m1 pro 14 inches and the temperature hit 106 C What type of tasks would put that pressure on this machine and make it reach that Temp? I am relaxing confused about the thermal especially on the 14 inches module Thank you for your efforts we appreciate it.

Good work. Regardless of the tests, I would like to point out that the camera could be reduced in size and placed in the bezel, and apple could do that. It seems that this notch may already be an attempt to set a standard not only for the size of the 1080p camera, but also for sensors that can be put forward (like face id). Even if this is the reason, it is not enough for me to ignore the fact that this notch is a design failure. Also, the fact that the upper corners of the screen are rounded, but the lower corners of the screen are 90 degrees is another nonsense.

@@Drothen- I should’ve explained my ‘basic’ editing. Importing and rendering multiple 4k videos can be demanding. Especially when you’re multitasking by having other (big) apps opened and working. You’re right, 32Gb is a lot aswel but at least you have some playroom for the moments you ask a more of your macbook. And it’s more future proof of course. Thank you for doing this work! So appreciate the effort you've gone to put it under stress. New to your channel and definitely subscribed. Just wanted to know if you think these upgrades in the M1 Pro are worth getting over the already great M1 MBP in 2020? On Apple's website, you can get the 512Gb SSD configuration of the 13" M1 for $2,100; the base line 14" M1 Pro comes in at $2,999. If I'm doing graphic design work, fusion 360 modelling work, lightroom and video editing work... would you recommend saving up to get the M1 Pro, or just getting the still good M1 2020 and live in dongle city land? Thanks for that great tests 👍🙌! I’m really interested how Blender performs in comparison to a PC having a Nvidia RTX GPU. I assume, Blender developers must first optimise to M CPU/GPU, afaik this isn’t the case yet. May you check that yourself or can you recommend a channel or a video showing such a comparison? Really appreciate any hint!
@CFIREKytb
@CFIREKytb 2 года назад
Not sure with blender specifically, but Redshift has already optimized itself for apple's metal. For context: M1Max 32Core: 4096 Threads @1.3ghz M1 16 core: 2048 threads @1.3 GHz 3060 Laptop: 3900 threads @1.3-1.7 GHz + RT cores Just on specs alone, apple will be having a hard battle here. For the benchmarks results I could reliably find: M1(original): 40 minutes M1Max: 4x M1 (9-10 minutes) M1Pro: 1/2 Max (18 minutes) 3060 Laptop: 7-8 minutes 3060 Desktop: 5 minutes 3090: 2:45 They will either need: Higher base clocks, over ~40 cores Or RT cores in order to compete with Nvidia. But they've already reached the $5,000 mark, they're gonna have to massively under cut the M1Max on the next release in order to compete with Nvidia for rendering performance.
@rolandrick
@rolandrick 2 года назад
@@CFIREKytb Thanks for the benchmark results M1s vs RTX 30XX, dam?it, that 2:45 minutes on the 3090, jaw dropping vs M1. However, this is not something Apple can solve, that's a task for the Blender developers. Except for integrating a 3090 into M1 Pro and Max Version "Nvidia" 😇
@rolandrick
@rolandrick 2 года назад
@@AlFirous LOL, my idea even goes a step further, the 3090 integrated in an M1ProNv and M1MaxNv 😆 - Apple should hire me as concept designer for hardware really needed by the 3D animation pros (I'm none, but I suffer in solidarity with them 🤪).

I don't think so, temps in that area were barely 40 degrees celsius under full load. The main factor in this heat was because I pushed the screen as far back as possible (so the camera could film the screen).
