Listen UP! GCP changed how health checks work - I NOW SUGGEST USING a TCP Health Check instead of HTTP. This should resolve some issues folks were seeing.

For anyone having an issue with VM instance drop down greyed out: You need to set the "Zone" of the instance group to the same zone as the zone of the VM you want to add. Example, if the Vm was created in zone "us-central1-a", then the instance group will also need the zone drop down to select "us-central1-a" as the option.

I used a traditional method I found on RU-vid that I could understand. This was more complicated than that. Not everyone has used Google Cloud so you lose them right there.

Can you do this on the GCP standard Tier? I saw it default selected Premium Tier

Helpful video but I'm still having issues with the Cert. I am getting the error "The Google-managed certificate has been created and Google Cloud is working with the Certificate Authority to sign it" and under status it says FAILED_NOT_VISIBLE after following this tutorial.

Then a second later in the video, it is checked and Cloud CDN is enabled. Will this cause the https to not work for my website? If so, is there a specific configuration for this? Thank you!

I was having an issue where I couldn't hit my endpoint despite seeing the process listening on the port and having the firewall configured to allow it, specifically. Where you show the 'allow https' setting (around 2:15) was the cause of the problem. Why is that setting there? What does that even do that a properly configured firewall can't? It's insanely obscure and IMO a detriment to the service.

Please help as my vestacp is running on 8083 so do i need to change the port for ssl setup or leave it default port 80 ? thanks

It does take time for the certificate to be provided. Is that why the page is getting load with an 404 error? I have seen in part part 2 you said it took you 30 minutes for the ssl certificate to be provided that might also be what other people may have experienced but didn't find any concrete answer yet.

Okay, there is a very important point missing in this Video that needs to be mentioned upfront. Going down this route is very EXPENSIVE. Setting up SSL certificates itself cost nothing. But the Load Balancer REQUIRED to make it work on GCP does cost money, a LOT of money.

Hello :) I'm having this problem, when I go to the (https) IP address then I get a 'The requested URL / was not found on this server' message... Was there anything else I had to do (I did setup a domain as well and added the namespaces)?

Is nginx necessary in order to do this? Not sure why mine isn't working. Going to retry step by step

I have a bit trouble to follow the steps as my domain is already setup. The load balancer A record IP does not point back server side so the frontend server is disconnected. Tried many different way without taking down the whole setup but looks like it is not possible to use this method if you have already have your domain setup before install load balancer

I created a SSL certificate for a wordpress hosted website on Google Platform using your method. Although it works, when I login to WordPress admin it still states there is no valid SSL certificate, and not all images are showing on the site. I've tried plugins like really simple SSL bit still it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Pretty complicated. Mine didn't work because I was using a dnynamic dns name and they don't allow you to change the dns server list. I didn't need a load balancer because I only have one instance. I mean it was good presentation but didn't really fit my needs. So I came away with nothing. So I was pretty pumped at the beginning but as it went on and especially when I had to create my own dns zone thats where it really fizzled out. But I wondered could I have just used a google name ? I don't really like dynamic dns but it is cheap and for most of the world cheap is important, definitely true in my case.

Please help, I've tried setting up the load balancer twice now as you show here and it doesn't work. It keeps indicating that the backend is unhealthy. I've checked both of the "allow HTTP(S) traffic" boxes in my wordpress VM and even created a special firewall rule as they indicate in the troubleshooting article by google, but no luck. Thank It work very well. I have to ask you something I work with websocket previously, I use certbot-auto it auto generate a cert-ket likes "fullchain.pem" and "privkey.pem". And using "websocket" via SSL It have to push the cert-key like "node websocket.js -s -c full chain.pem and -k privacy.pem -p 1234" something like that. And I can access the socket via domain.name I try to solve like "Don't use ssl setup like node websocket -p 1234to frontend. I don't know lol. The stupid question is "how do I get the fullchaim.pem and privkey.pem from load balancer ?" or It not working like that. I have no idea.
