Wow, it is certainly distinctive!

It is a cage of Faraday, that keeps the magnetism out :)

Bought a Phoibos GMT Ray 6 months ago. Just realised I have never had to correct the time yet. Love the looks of this one too.

I didn't even know they did a GMT version. Just looked on the site but its not there so they must have sold out. So was it like my orange one I shown in the video? sounds great.

@@mywatchreviews Wow you're right, it's no longer for sale on their site.. Glad I bought it when I did. Face is very similar to their eagle ray. As you say here, they do produce some very interesting designs.

Besutiful watch, although the slippery crown leaves something to be desired. I have their Reef Master in orange and the Apollo in gray, id actually sell them to fund this purchase.

Interesting look. Love the design, love the grey sued strap. Those crowns look like a pair of brass knuckles though. Here’s hoping they don’t dig into the wrist as much as they look like they will. I dub this watch the Phoibos “Knucklehead”.

Thanks for your comment. I will not be able to answer the crown question easily as I am left handed so crowns point up my arm but I will try it on my right to see. Always feels so alien on the right though :-)

I guess we will see all the microbrands do it now. It all goes in cycles! GMT, compressor, lumed dials , tiffany blue dials.

I agree with other comments as to this not being to my taste at all. Thanks for the enthusiastic first impressions though! I would add that when a watch has crowns that monumental, listing the watch size in terms of the case-size doesn't seem representative of the reality of the watch. I looked on the Phoibos site and they don't give the dimensions with the crowns (that I could find); I'm guessing another 6-8 mm? It wouldn't normall be a complaint I'd make, but when the whole design seems to be based on "hey, look at these crowns!" I think it's fair to call it out.
@mywatchreviews
@mywatchreviews Год назад
The crowns are big but then its their design, You only have to look at Graham watches to see the biggest crowns in the world! They are supposed to get their inspiration from the domes on the buildings in Santorini a Greek island. All Phoibos are influenced in some way by Greece. Thing with round watches with no lugs is you can get away with a bigger watch as it has shorter lug to lug distance so they wear better. I do take your point on the crowns as it will always spit opinion, for some they like and others dont. What I do like is that its being its own thing. They keep pushing their designs and some are better than others but one day I think they might hit the sweet spot for all. Thanks for watching
@ronjenkins8529

@@mywatchreviews Agreed, Michael. I totally get that there are people who love the over-sized crowns. My comment is not a critique of the crown size, so much as it is an observation that not including one 3-4mm crown in 'watch size' is one thing, but when there are two crowns in the 6-8mm range (guessing) on a single 43.5mm case, I submit that what you have is functionally (and aesthetically) a 50mm watch. This could either good or bad, depending on your taste. I guess I'd just like to see them "own it" and call it "50mm including crowns" ;-) Keep up the good work and so glad that you are feeling up to being back at it!

I don't hate the hockey puck looks. I'm not sold on the crowns, but will wait on your verdict. I think the hidden lugs was a good choice, the case would have been pretty unwieldy with them prominent. I AM missing a shotblasted Kraken on the caseback. What gives, Phoibos? If any piece deserves an aquatic ornamentation, surely its a compressor dive style! Now we just have to wait to see the Sellita :)

On the anti-magnetism, I wonder if they're using a soft-iron insert.
@mywatchreviews

Hi Pal, The crowns are inspired by the domes on Santorini one of the Greek islands. Phoibos take their name and inspiration from Greece and mythology. Yes the caseback is a real disappointment to see as Phoibos do the best casebacks I've seen. I can only assume its to do with the antimagnatism. Perhaps whatever they are using for antimagnatism prevents the usual design being applied. I will be asking them today.

I like it, bit like a tuna can. Phoibos at least uses original designs, i like that. I'm in the market for a phoibos right now, let's see what I get.

Its a big watch but yes original! They have many models to chose from so it would depend on your budget and tastes. If you ever decide to buy click in via one of my links and use RetroWatches in checkout which gives you a discount, 5 or 10% from memory. That way we both win. Be interesting to know what models you like from Phoibos.

This looks to be a much more serious tool watch than the earlier model, but to most of us who are not actually divers it is imo rather less attractive. That is of course subjective and some will love it. The SW200 is a definite plus.

Thanks for your feedback Owen, It is a big watch for big adventures I guess. I am really liking the texture and layers on the dial which I will try to show more in the review. I agree its good to see a SW200 rather than a NH35 inside.

Case back is a letdown. My fav. Microbrand
@mywatchreviews
@mywatchreviews Год назад
I completely get that as I was disappointed too. I think it has to be something to do with the antimagnatism as that is a layer within the caseback. Hopefully when I take the back off in the review we might see what it is. Thanks for watching.

I have been rapidly warming to it over the last 24 hours, the layers and textures from certain angles are really nice. Phoibos like to be unique and this one has that in spades.

Looks a bit designed by committee. Doesn’t gel well. Although imo, all Phoibos designs are playing for 2nd place after the Apollo (I’m a sucker for a sandwich dial).

Thats fair enough. It has taken me two days to get used to is but I now have warmed to the design. The layers on certain angles are really nice.
