I loved the short. If this ever gets dubbed or a movie would be made in this Art style I would love to hear Veronica Taylor reprises her role as Ash Ketchum for that movie.
I’m surprised no one is speculating about that overgrown world in the second half. One of the endings for Pokémon that was planned was the Pokémon turning on the humans and Pickachu leading the charge against them. The overgrown world makes it look like humans haven’t been there for a long time
@@brancellbooks The original writer for the anime planned for that to happen in the original plans for the third movie I think, it was also a really weird movie as it was planned to feature an actual non-Pokemon dinosaur in it. The franchise ended up being too popular to have it end though.
I legit started crying seeing ash like that again. Life has been really rough lately, so this little taste of my childhood really feels like a warm hug right about now. Thanks for your commentary.
It‘s a pretty creative concept to mix the Pokémon Anime and an art show together. The short also has a lot of mystery, there‘s almost no dialogue. Beats whatever Pokémon Journeys is trying to be, in my opinion.
Does this mean we’re getting an reboot of the anime again? I love seeing the old style revamp but hoping it’s not another reboot give ash the proper ending he deserves.
I found the artstyle and animation very nice but other than that, I wasn't too intrested in the special after the battle was interupted. It was just Ash and Pikachu running after Celebi for a few minutes. I really hope this picks up in the future but for now, I'm personally not at the edge of my seat waiting for the next part.
It was them running after Celebi trying to figure out why in the world they were sent to a dystopian future that looks like everyone is dead or gone. I think that is what was supposed to hold people over while they watch the environment that was mapped out.
@@williamkrause5585 the environments were certainly gorgeous but by the 6th time they ran past another statue in a cave it kinda started to lose its luster.
Can't believe I just learned about this short. I agree the style of background is really charming. Honestly the best of both worlds: digital motion with painted scenery.
This new Short really brings me back when I was watching Pokemon Master Quest thanks for the Style, I feel like I'm watching a new or exclusive Pokemon Johto episode with some plus things and features that the 6 year old me says....Who's that Pokémon?!
I was interested when I watch the trailer for this Pokemon anime thing and was wondering what this even was but now I do. But can we all agree that when we watch this we got goosebumps from the atmosphere? This could become a Pokemon game or not but the it would be interesting and creepy.
Stop it We need to get of nostalgia's dick and create something new. I'm tired of the old characters returning and Kanto pandering. I get it the old seasons were awesome but just like XY which was new at one point and well liked why not something else fresh and new that could be awesome.
@@thegermthatlivesinsideyour9328 i disagree, old characters are what makes the connections and also bring back memories and old but strong bonds with the pokemons ash had
This must be in the middle of the Silver Conference right? Because Ash has his original design. Brock and Misty were there. And Ash knows what a Celebi is. EDIT: Oh fudge... Iron Tail... I really wanted this to be canon but they screwed up. :,(
I love that old style animation they used for the first 16 years until gen 6, I would be so overjoyed if they brought it back! I have fond memories of watching the first series back in the late 90s♥️
They had it until the end of gen 6, it changed a little but it was still the old 2D style, I would much rather have that than how the sun and moon series looked like
I'm 90% convinced this supposed to tie in with Gen 9 given the huge time travel reference. If anyone hasn't done their research gen 9 is heavily implied to be about time travel. Pokemon characters being deposited across the timeline including Legends Arceus with Maxie and Archie appearing in a region they have no connection too. (orginal Archie and Maxi, aka team rainbow rocket) alder, and others. I'm assuming this is supposed to open the multiverse/time travel ice berg in Pokemon.
This short movie is very interesting. Ash and Pikachu were sent to some point in time. It could be the future since a lot seemed to have happened and then it ends with Ash meeting Dialga. Could that future be a post apocalyptic future? And what could it mean? Could something have happened that coused it? If so, what?
The new older design is just enough to make me watch this after skipping the last two seasons minus Misty and Dawn returns, hopefully Serena and May will get their turn.
The Original - Diamond and Pearl had the best character designs. Everything else since 2010 is just feels off. Sure, most people prefers XYZ, but i always hated that wierd big brown eye contacts on Ash, that he had since Best Wishes. They were just out of place and made him too young. The black I - shaped eyes was way better.
Who else though this was a new movie? The next one should take place with Ash and Team Rocket getting sent to the future that's ruled by a tyrant who hates Pokemon with a burning passion, being absolutely specciesist towards all Pokemon while being obsessed with humanity's position as the most dominant form of life on Earth.
I personally loved it, even if I initially didn't get the thing with all the statues until I saw this video. But I am curious to find out what's going on.
That shrine that Celebi takes Ash and Pikachu to see Dialga reminds me of the Dragon's Den from Johto. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but it'd be funny if that's confirmed.
Ginger I have to agree with you that the video is awesome and maybe it will knock some sense into the anime writers to make the gen 9 anime if there is one like the original series. I mean if I'm going to be honest they may have gone a bit to far in making ash more child like both physically and mentally. I mean right now ash acts like non of the lessons he learned since becoming a trainer never happened. I can understand them wanting to making it more family friendly than it was before. But they should really take in account not only the new generation of fans but the old generation as well we still like to watch pokemon too. They should make a separate tv show that is a separate universe than what we grew up with that way they can have the family friendly pokemon show for younger viewers like they wanted. While the older generation can enjoy something that we are more familiar with.
You mentioning official subtitles made me remember how fan subtitles during SM called Shaymin... "Xiemi". That made me cringe every time it appeared on screen.
I saw a few of the art pieces online and they look fantastic. I liked the start of the short a lot, I found the running thing kinda boring, I wanted more. I feel like the short might creep little kids out a bit. And I feel like I've seen this plot in a spongebob episode or something?
Damn, if they put back the old graphic style for the new generation (9th) then there it is sure I will cry! 😭❤ It's been since Sun and Moon that they rotted Ash's graphic style! There I'm glad the old graphic style is back in this anime extract! ❤
My guess is that the world that Ash and Pikachu got into is a stopped time reality, making it Dialga and celebi's dimension. Yes, there are other pokemon, but I like to think that they are copys of alternatives realities pokemon, they doesn't have a statue because of that. It would explain why there was a tv there, because it shows the last time celebi stopped in a reality before returning "home" or they could also be selfaware that the anime protagonist is Ash and be following him....
i love how they decided to go with the pre-Alola art style. I miss that style so much, since the post Alola style is what downgraded Team Rocket’s look for me
I SWEAR that shrine with Celebi looks like something I actually saw in the first few seasons. Is it a reference? I'm not talking about anything that actually had to do with Celebi in canon, as far as I remember. Like, it had to do with a non-legendary.
Here's my prediction: This is Pokemon NFTs. Look up Daniel Arsham and his works. When I first saw the trailer, I instantly got NFT vibes. They are selling merch of the crystalized Pokemon statues
I was excited about the fact that I saw Casey in the stadium crowd watching the match. Cheers to those who know who I am talking about and can finder her. This is her 7th appearance. And Richie also made an appearance. Serious nostalgia flashback here.
Ash was still wearing his original outfit in Pokémon 4ever. Maybe this short is set after that movie, and that's why he recognises Celebi? That wouldn't explain Pikachu knowing Iron Tail, though.
Maybe this will explore the origins of ash never aging. I believe this is talked about in the Daniel Arsham new sculpture book. There are hints toward this
dude no one ages in pokemon serena was the some age as ash when they meart as kids then whe she come back in xy she was the some age as ash profing no one ages or it just ash and serena who dont age
@@ssjgotenks2009 because they are at the same age... which is NOT ten currently. At that point it was about 13, as simple as that. The whole commotion about Ash ages comes mainly for very absurd assumption that the times in Pokemon World is the same as in ours (so all these actually stupid jokes about "tean Years old Ash getting his first pokemon Championship in 20-years career") or treating some side animation with dobious canonicity at best (or narrator's word, while we've clearly seen so many times he isn't viable source of information at all...) as some really meaningful timeline indicators.
@@Lyokoheros-KLPXTV Ash is 10. This is confirmed with the artbook the OP mentioned and BW. He's not gonna age. Time stopped mattering after Kanto and any references to it past Kanto are usually dub only additions. If the anime didn't retcon Kanto's time, technically Ash would be forever 11. lol
@@weridplusho this confirmation (and what confirmation actually? I didn't see any actual confirmation in the canon) is so stupid, that no one sane should actually care about it and any claims about Ash not aging should simply be disregarded as they are utter nonsense.
@@Lyokoheros-KLPXTV 1) Best Wishes ep 1 (Japanese) states Ash's age. There was literally a mini-controversy in fandom over it. 2) Arsham's Pokedex (the artbook mentioned) has an interview with the Pokeani's director where he states Ash is forever 10. (See charusharu's video "Why Ash doesn't age finally revealed" for the quote). It literally can't get any confirmed and canon as that. Though going by your words, you're more interested in your lies than you are on what's actually the truth.
I'm hoping so much that we'll get official subtitles for Horizons, the trailer's are pretty promising so far and the dub names don't change too much. For example, Roy is called Rory in German but only because Roy is already the German name of Raihan from Sword and Shield.
Your video sent me to that new pkmn anime short Honestly, I was *half sleep* when I watched it and the memory of what I saw feels like a dream. Celebi? Kanto Ash? Dialga???
I agree with you this new style with this new artist Daniel Arsham for the Pokémon anime looks fantastic and I'll definitely check it out in youe description box, also I've just subscribed to your channel and I'm with you on hoping for more projects with this new artstyle in the near future 😁🙏, also having Veronica Taylor reprise her role as Ash Ketchum again would be a full circle moment
In my opinion I think that this was the original world that Ash and Pikachu lived in before he became eternally 10 like the reason why he's always 10 is because of this this is his origin story
The fact that they could definitely stick to the original art style and decided to change the art style twice making controversial topics about the current anime art style hurts me.
I was skeptical of this short since a lot of the Pokemon shorts that people love to praise that I find "meh", but holy cow. This short single-handly proves they could have updated cels to computer and _still_ maintain the aspects from that animation style, if they wanted. Everything here is 100% better than any of the new artstyles, especially the more recent ones from SM/Journeys and the AU movies. Yes, even better than I Choose You. The skinny arms aren't as obvious like in that movie. Ash _looks_ like Shudo's Ash. And is it just me or does Pikachu look more chubby than usual? Even the style of the greenery is iconic for someone who is watching Kanto for the millionth time. lol Also, the cameos chosen made me smile -- Gary, Casey and Ritchie were in the audience. (The overuse of Cynthia is eh, though.) It's actually _good. Really good._ I never thought I'd say that about any modern Pokemon anime. If they did a remaster and/or reboot or _anything_ with Ash in this style, I'd check it out immediately.
