Cried like a baby. Not a religious person but this show moved me to tears and touched me on so many occasions. I understand faith. It can be beautiful.
I know what you're talking about, I cried sadly at the Young Pope ending and soon after decided to give the Church one more chance. Now cried with happiness after the New Pope ending because I've found my place there ⛪ God bless you ❤️
Or one of the clear liquors. This is the Catholic church. God wouldn't be cruel enough to make it so he can only not be an alcoholic by giving up drinking entirely.
I love the meaning of this. Lenny going to the sea is a metaphor of his passing, but he goes knowing that closest and dearest to him have what they needed. Happyness and joy like the doctor and his wife who are expecting, absolution like Ester, peace in their souls like Gutiérrez and love like that young nun and her boyfriend or Sofia and Sir John finding each other, and Voiello finding his true purpose - humbly accepting his lost awaited position and raising future Pope... Lenny goes away in peace, driving into the sea knowing that his children can go on without him and have what we always wanted them to have - love.
Voiello's character may come off as Machiavellian in the way he goes about his politics, but ultimately watching his character very much demonstrated to me that Machiavellian characters and actions are needed to ensure the wider health and the overall survival of the church, if not any institution for that matter. And Voiello has demonstrated that he has a heart of Gold, especially in the way he worked for Girolamo, the nuns, his assertion that he as Secretary of State looks to defend the Pope, and the church body as a whole. His inherent goodness, the connections and networks he built up, and his understanding of the Church as a body politic will make him an excellent pope. I wonder which Cardinal would be worthy of filling his huge shoes in this situation honestly - no one in the show appears to have the right balance of qualities that made him such an excellent Secretary of State imo.
I like to think that he learned a lot about how to be powerful and good at the same time since Lenny became pope. I think in Voiello's arc like full of redemption. The key moment for me was when he helped all the nuns right before he was fired.
@@theo9952 it is possible, Sorrentino said this in an interview: “I have another season in my mind,” he said. “I don’t know if I will do that. I should find time to do that, and I should convince HBO in order to do that. I have a new idea for a third season, but it’s a crazy, crazy idea so I don’t know if it’s easy to realize. It’s an idea completely outside the Vatican - it’s really different.”
I think that the show creator admited he doesnt have more ideas for Lenny. He basically said that if there is a 3rd season then it would be without Lenny
Agreed. I liked Sofia more as a background character with an air of mystery to her. I think she was overused in this season to the character’s detriment… which is not a knock on the actress playing her, she’s great, but Sofia the character fit the series better as a glimpse into the church’s PR side, which has all the tackiness of any PR, a representation of that one aspect of this massive and ancient institution, not as a central character herself.
I love the shot with Gutierrez. Was it water? Or was it vodka? His smile lends a subtle hint. Of course it was vodka. We all have our vices and weaknesses. And his doesn't hurt anyone else.
According to the guy who wrote the show, he’s supposed to be dead only in the same way that Jesus ‘died’ again after coming back and seeing the apostles once he was resurrected. So he’s sort of died this time but not straightforwardly. Also, apparently there’s an idea for a 3rd season which will involve him again
Could be Clement or Leo, or even Pius, those are the popes with the bureaucratic backgrounds (Pius XII, and Clement IX were Cardinal Secretary of State and Leo XIII was the Camerlengo or head of household of the Pope)
I think he would adopt the name Girolamo italian form of Hieronymus or Jerome in english. He would give Girolamo the credit of being his life inspiration. Also there is no written rule, that the pope needs to have a name of some of his predecessors; pope Francis (21st century pope) is also the first Francis among all popes.
Voiello is only a bad guy on the first episodes from 'The Young Pope', once he understood his place and what/who Lenny is, he turned a strong minded character for the good of everyone.
