The beautiful thing about both seasons is that the german voice (my country) of Pius IX and Johannes III is so fitting as well

What the new pope sought to achieve is what he considered to be "essential": to bridge the enormous gap between the sinful and the sacred. A being with a past simmilar to their present would be capable of finally understanding their hardships. Not only understanding them, but also accepting them in a place of forgiveness, a place which offers a sense of belonging. The Church. His own personna and actions actually bridged the gap which he describes here, which was essential in order to "upgrade" the bible. Beautiful, poetic and appreciated.
