Flipped mine once way out it the bay out in lake erie so glad it self righted and I was good, if your gonna buy a first boat this would be my first choice.
Mine arrived last week, and WOW is all I can say. The unboxing alone was such a treat. The boat looks incredible in person,.Sent her out for the first time with some friends and it was the best out of the box r/c experience I've ever had. Man is this thing a legit thrill to run, it's so damn fast and handles great. Awesome review of an awesome boat, and your maintenance and upgrade videos for the SonicWake V2 have been invaluable help, thank you!
B, what's the fix if the inside skeleton cage is loose in this boat. It's maming the self right take over a minute at times. Ita loose and lifts off the boats where the batters go.
So, I was looking at this for a buddy who wants a fassst boat. Some drag racing. Some course racing. Would love some input, since my RC knowledge is in land based rigs.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the drive shaft, the grease, I wouldn't even call it grease , I was wondering if I could use a real heavy grease like 80 or 90 w
Hey man - I'm new to the boat game and have a question. I have some 6s 100c packs I use in my land bashers. Do we really need to run two packs in these? I would like to test single 100c single packs but don't want to burn up any connectors. Thanks man.
Thank you - Appreciate the quick reply. Soon as I messaged you I watched a video of yours that answered my question. Thanks for the content@@IRONCLADRC
For ppl that run in rougher/choppy water.... how do you keep the water out? I had I'm pretty scary experience yesterday running the third set of batteries in my version 2 where water somehow got into the receiver box and made it act sporadically making the throttle go on its own or be delayed and then take off. It decided to do this mid run and took off directly towards me on the shore and I literally had to catch it with my hands slicing open one of my fingers from the rear of the boat.. not ideal to say the least. I need someone to help me in regards to if they make a new receiver box that is actually waterproof and if they make a waterproof receiver that I can now replace this one with? Additionally I've been looking at the exploded parts diagram and I cannot find the foam padding that is beneath the top cowl. This is installed terribly from the factory and I think I need to redo it and I want to add a second layer so when you actually do tighten the thumb screws it creates a seal. I can't find this part No. Help? I dont run in pond smooth conditions unless I get out there super early so my runs are more bashing since it submarines several times per run. Probably self right 10 times during the run as well. (Choppy waters like I said- but still fun when it does hook up) I like the boat I guess I'm just disappointed on how much water is ending up inside. Currently the boat is unusable and it's one day old so it's a little aggravating
Hey. With this boat. If you tight tbe screws down well it really doesn't let water in much. But we use electrical tape or clear marine tape around the lid when we go in salt water and 0 water gets in. We still wash the outside and rinse the inside out after the batteries are pulled.
Hello. Thank you for your videos on this beautiful boat. did you get the sonicwake V1? If so, do you have any tips for upgrading? Maybe the propeller? Thanks in advance.
Big B. I just brought this boat and I have a arrow 5 as my first boat. I've noticed the prop and rudders are lined up different. Would this be y the sonic doesn't turn left very well. What do u think.
I just got an used SonicWakeV2 and was running with an Impulse 32 before. The Impulse seems to be wayy faster, yes the ESC is 160A instead of 120A but weird thing everything's getting alot hotter on the Sonic Wake. The motor, ESC and battery cables are much hotter. Moreover, on the Impulse I am unable to get to full speed yet, still too much waves on the lake I've ride. The Sonic rides alot smoother and takes waves way more easier than the Impulse. I am thinking about putting the 160A and motor (2000kV instead of 1900 if I remember correctly). I would see how it goes. BTW i am riding both boats with newer 2x 3S 100C 5000mAh spektrum packs.
Oh yea ive run 6000mah 6500mah 3s twins, larger battery may not fit the stock tray perfectly, a work around is adding a thin strip of foam in the tray itself then set the Battery's on top
I like to go pick one up tomorrow. I already have the blackjack 42 and an M 41 I just love votes. I also have a blaster so I think it’s a good boat but I think I’m gonna give it a go. Thank you Giovanni.
I just ran mine for the first time and all of the sudden it stopped, so I went and retrieved it, opened the canopy and it was smoking, and one of the ic5 connectors had popped out and the battery connector melted into it, don’t know why this happened, I was running full throttle a bit but not for long, may have to return it
Got the last of the V1s thanks to Big Bs heads up on the sale. Must be a distributer near by as I got it in two days. 52 mph first day out of the box. Third time in water got 55 mph. Love the boat. Can you tell me the specs on the stock prop? I know its 42mm. Thanks Keep the great vids coming
After seeing this video, I also bought Sonicwake V2.👍🤩 Is the Octura x642 prop the same size as the original prop on the Sonicwake V2? Better performance? And don't Turn Fins need to be upgraded? I would appreciate it if you could recommend Turn Fins.
I'm fairly sure the stock prop is 43mm 1.6p. There made of different materials and have different characteristics similar in looks but very different behaviors
So I have a Sonicwake V2 with stock electronics and I’m getting 57 mph on a 6S 5000. I saw that you were getting 48 mph on yours. I bought this secondhand so I have no idea if my prop is stock or not, but was hoping you might be able to tell me.
Hey big B... if I get the 160amp spectrum esc for my v2 sw,, will the stock motor hold up ?? I assume it will make a difference in caps and esc heat, what's your pro opinion, also how much more speed can I expect approximately??
Hey big b, can you recall if the included marine grease is the same as the one proboat sells? Dude I LOVE that grease man. It's super tacky thick and gooey and after using it my stuffing tubes do t even get warm like they used to with the auto parts marine grease (quick silver).
I haven't found any grease that comes close to the included grease in the rtr v2 kit. Grim Racer use to make some grease "speed grease" that was similar but it's no longer available
@@IRONCLADRC I don't think I wanna run my boats without that grease. I'm going to reach out to proboat. I'll keep you posted. And I'll be shipping that hull out to you this week brother. 😁
Thinking of picking this up. I have a bunch of 4s lipos and was wondering if u were to upgrade to a 160 firma, could u run 8s? Stock motor handle it? Speed gains? Thanks in advance
I was riding my waverunner on an early ride one morning befor anyone was on the water. Was going like 45/50 on glass water. Looked to my left and a boat just like this was cruising next to me and then took off and left me in the dust. So funny, def need to get an r/c boat like this. Just wish battery life was longer
hey man i have some ZEEE 5500 120c and i get LVC at like 3-4 minutes are those batteries to much for the stock 120 esc?? It cuts out after 3 full pull passes.
No those are perfect, mah could be higher for longer run times. You may be experiencing a temperature cut? How are the Temps after each run compared to voltage.
@@IRONCLADRC temps are perfect mid 80s on esc motor and connectors are around 100 im getting cut out on hard pulls getting voltage drop im guessing, bring the boat back and voltage check and i will be at 3.7v
Love the videos! I replaced my Sonicwake V1 120a esc with a Seaking 180a and am not sure what to set the timing at. All the other electronics and motor are stock. The original esc called for 7.5 and the new esc called for 15, what do you think?
It ran fine the first two times although the electrics seemed very warm. Third run, I drove a little faster after lubing the shaft. Electrical system and batteries were really HOT. More importantly the rubber grommet that hold the brass driveshaft tube into the stringer completely melted and disintegrated. The shaft is not aligned to the motor. The boat is now inoperable after just three runs.
@@cglostinvegas Simple fix - replace the black grommet with either silicone tube or I prefer using 4 green O rings (the ones used on car AC systems) - end of the problem. Also make sure that the clamp arrow is pointing forward or it will misalign the tube and shaft.
What’s the best all-around prop that maintains 50 miles an hour and good battery life I have two 9000 million batteries in my boat and got 13 minutes runtime on stock everything
I hate the way they sit in the water when they’re not moving. It must be sluggish out of the hole when it’s full of water. That’s the only thing I don’t like about it.
@@IRONCLADRC Got the v2 yesterday. White one. First run today. It's sweet. But was choppy so it was more of a bash. Submarined it a bunch off waves and sometimes took a lottle to rogh itself. Made me nervous for a second lol. Supposed to turn like crap at lower speeds? Sweet videos.
My buddy and I have fried 2 120amp esc's to the right side battery. Split the cooling lines and added another out port. Ripped the Boat Bitz rudder out of the transom and made repairs. Horizon Hobby SUCKS! I can NEVER call them direct. Instead their Virtual Assistant jack's me around. I'm tired of spending money into these. Wish I could post photos here.
the v1 and the v2 sonicwake use the exact same hull.. the same thickness and size. same size engine etc.. only change is with the dual cooling and the transmitter... mr ironclad is full of shit. the transmitter is not upgraded just a changed name and works the same... the boat works fine without dual cooling.. not needed .. my opinion...
based on my experience, every big deep V RC boat is bad turning at low speeds, they need a wide space to be able to turn at low speeds, so you need to push the throttle a little more in order to get a sharper turn.
