Fantastic. One detail though, "Although I'm sure some companies will release more lenses for this". Actually there are tens of thousands of Lenses that will mount on this immediately. The module uses a "C-Mount" and "CS-Mount" (C Short) standard screw mount lens. The C-Mount standard has been around since 1926 for 16mm film cameras and I'd suspect that the original 94 year old lenses would work. Basically just look for any C-mount or CS-mount rated for a 1/2.3" format or larger. But the "sensor format" is very important to check on such lenses. This specifies the size of the sensor and if you buy a C-Mount lens with a smaller format size you will get the edges of your image cut off. You can also get a wide variety of adapters to mount anything from a DSLR lens to an astronomical telescope. In fact one of the first things I'm going to slap my module on is an 8' Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope.

@@tomf3150 Definitely not going to work well for high end long exposure Deep Sky Object DSO imaging, no cooling and the pixels are too small, I'd go for a Revolution Imaging product for a cheap option for that. OTOH this is reasonably well suited for Lunar and Planetary Imaging with image stacking.and drizzling I'm very interested with respect to Lunar Imaging at high frame rates to achieve "Lucky" imaging. That said, the bare board and low cost makes rigging a Peltier cooler a trivial option with negligible downsides. It's like overclocking, you aren't going to get insane performance but the downside is so low that it is a no brainer to do. Of course this is a bit OT for a emulation and gaming channel :)

I have read about this camera just a few days ago. Placing a order for it and the telephoto lens as soon as stock is available in Canada. I use a number of raspberry Pi’s using MotionEyesOS and I have on camera covering my backyard. With the standard V2 camera I only get a large image and can’t see the work shed that I need covered. But now with this new camera and telephoto lens I should be able to get a much better recording and still images. With this new camera anyone that’s interested in a DIY security cameras that are self contained , independent and completely off grid can now get a much better image coverage for just a few dollars more. Thanks again for providing this very important product review. I was holding off on buying it until I had a better understanding of its Quality and features, but now I do!

nice video thanks. I'm not sure but I think the way to adjust the backfocus for a given lens/camera combo is you have to turn the lens to infinity then look for something to focus on that is far away (the longer the lens, the further away but even for 16mm a few m should be enough, but if you want to be sure, you can always use the moon). with the lens "locked" to infinity adjust the backfocus so that your chosen subject is in focus and lock the backfocus. now whatever you do you can't focus past infinity and you get the maximum close focusing abilities without sacrificing the possibility to also focus to infinity...

I don't get why people hate on the W small camera connector. It is just a connector. The cables that go from the small connector to the larger connecter are EASILY found for less than a dollar--and there are many, many perfectly suitable cameras that have the appropriate cable end already for the W specifically. They make handy little "room monitoring" webcams for a home automation setup.

I really love having a MicroCenter nearby. I am the IT manager for a cold storage plant and often I will buy things like printers and TVs there for less than Amazon. Also their SD, USB Stick, and SBC pricing is typically half what you'd pay on Amazon. The other day I had to buy some sort of mesh system for the WiFi in my house. If I had waited one more day my girlfriend probably would've killed me, so I guess they saved my life. The salesperson there recommended I get a Ubiquiti Networks UniFi nanoHD AC2000 Dual-Band Wireless Access Point, instead of a mesh system, and boy was she right! As a professional photographer for over 50 years, may I make a suggestion? Adjust the back focus on something that is very far away (infinity). Good subjects: clouds, mountains, the moon, tall buildings, cell phone towers, etc. That way, the lens will be able to easily focus on anything closer. Once the back focus is set then if a lens has distance markings (3, 5, 7, 10 feet, etc.), then those should be fairly accurate for correct focus. Terry Thomas... the photographer Atlanta, Georgia USA

I notice that it came with a screwdriver, and both lenses have a focus and aperture...dial? I just don't know which should be moving and how. Okay, the HQ camera is great, so I've purchased 3. One is for a motion tracking telescopic security cam and 2 are for robotic stereoscopic depth perception on a StereoPi CM3 board. They're all hooked up and ready to start streaming... as soon as I can figure out how. There's much more to this than taking a snapshot or live preview, but obsolete support documentation and 2018 tutorials are mostly all that's available.😣 I've watched so many OpenCV installs over the past week that my head is spinning.😵 But, haven't found any that cover gstreamer nor remote opencv processing of a streamed video source, especially w/dual cameras. Can't get gst-launch to work in python because I don't know whether to use uv4l, uv4l-raspicam, the picamera module, pre-loading the driver, -cs 3d sbs, or /dev/videox. The IMX219 RPi V2 cameras work fine with python and nvarguscamerasrc on the NVidia Xavier NX, but not the HQ w/o removing a resistor. Besides, I would much rather keep the $400 NX on my desk to remotely process images from the StereoPi robot 'head' and return motion commands over WiFi. @ETA Prime, please follow up with detailed tutorials on this stuff, so that end users can get the most out of the HQ camera.🙏

That is great! Can you make a test with this as a webcam? This could be much more high quality than the standard web cams from logitech and also a cheaper solution than getting a Sony a Canon with expensive lenses. Much appreciated and looking forward to the other videos in this series.

This is awesome...I would like to see the setup you have for the monitor, mouse, and keyboard. How portable can you make this? Very Interested. I there like a pi camera case with a touch screen or small screen you can use and maybe a bluetooth keyboard/trackpad with it. SO MANY IDEAS!!!!!!!! PI=INFINITE

Are there any higher quality / resolution sensors and lenses out there for Raspberry? Something closer to what you'd find from full-frame or maybe even MFT sensors

I would go, but the nearest Micro Center for me is more than 2 hours away. I don’t usually have the chances for that travel. :(

Thank you for posting this video and I have been looking for reason to upgrade from pi 3b+ to pi 4. I am into video recording as a hobby and I was considering getting a more expensive camera. If this HE camera turn out to be a solid performer for 4k 10bit recording then I am getting both the pi 4 and the HQ camera module. Subscribing to your channel.

While the sensor seems to be capable of doing 4K at 10bit (it can do a full sensor readout at 40 fps at 12bits), the Raspberry Pi will be the limiting factor. It's either the CSI interface that's used that doesn't support 4K anything or that the built in h264 encoder doesn't support 4K.

I hope IMX477 will get support in ESP32 soon. I've been wanting to build my own DIY 360 degree camera for cheap and I want to dewarp the images and videos on my phone (OnePlus 7T) while caching to an SD card connected to the ESP32 (to hopefully get higher framerates by eliminating streaming overhead). I was thinking I'd use 3 wide angle cameras.

I could see someone making a 360 camera with an extreem wide lens with this. Or a RU-vid live streaming solution

For the price, just have a circle of them as is done with the professional 3D cameras. 6 to 8 of these mounted portrait in a circle will produce a very high resolution 360 degree image.

At around 2:45 you mention that the "back focus" would need to be adjusted when you put a new lens on it but I missed the part where you describe how to do this. Is there a "correct" method? Does it need to be done for each new lens, or just the first time you put a lens on and lock it and it will work for all lenses thereafter?
@vvwording4844
@vvwording4844 4 года назад
The bigger lens costs $50. That lens requires the HQ camera board which costs $50. As I understand the system, the "back focus" is on the HQ camera board and when a new lens is used, the "back focus" is a focus opportunity (or a burden - depends on your outlook).

I’m not sure how Microcenter has survived all these years but thank god they have. Their prices are competitive (and they price match), their selection is insane (they actually have enthusiast products that you’d normally never see anywhere outside online stores) and there’s one five minutes from me, making it an awesome solution for when you forgot to order something and need a part immediately b

does this work with the pi zero? if yes it would be a cool little project to build the sensor, pi zero, a small touchscreen and a battery inside a 3d-printed case to make a diy camera. maybe even set up raspbian to hide the taskbar and autostart the camera app with a script maybe
